In the past (read: up until now) I didn't really care in what forums things were posted, but I am thinking that I should change that. It doesn't really make old posts any easier to find when they're not in the proper subforum. So I would propose the following as a general outline to help you decide where to post your thread:

<i><b>POTC Build Mod</b></i>
General information, news, questions, suggestions related to the Build mod in general.

<i><b>Build Technical</b></i>
Any technical issues you might be having. "How to" requests and bug issues.
(I think we should start using the <a href="http://swankyplace.com/potcbugs/main_page.php" target="_blank">Bug Tracker</a> again <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> )

<i><b>Build Alpha & Brainstorming</b></i>
New ideas and progress on new mods.

<i><b>POTC Gameplay & Tips</b></i>
Stories, non-specific polls (eg: what character and ship model do you use), etc.

<i><b>POTC Technical</b></i>
For when you can't seem to run the game at all.

Today I have been moving a fair amount of posts around, so don't be surprised when threads are in a different forum to where they were previously. Of course I am not going to make a problem out of "misposting" and I don't want to be ruling with "iron fist" here. This community functions as a democracy and I really want to keep it that way. But it wouldsaves me a lot of trouble if you do try to stick to this... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
If you have any questions, comments or suggestions on this, feel free to post them here. We're a PIRATE community and pirates are democratic! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

I think it might be time to add some more "rules":
- Please don't post the same question multiple times. Once is enough!
- Don't panic if you don't get a reply within five minutes. Replies WILL come if you ask your question in a normal way. Please give people the time to actually find the question and type their response. Take into account that the person who might know the answer could be asleep and won't reply until the next day.
- Please don't PM me unless you really have to. Questions posted on the forum will get quicker and better responses than PMs sent to me, because more people can respond that way. I am having a hard time keeping my PM inbox from filling up as it is.
- It would be most appreciated if you would read some of the forum posts before asking your questions. We're getting rather a lot of the same questions lately, mostly having to do with Port Royal being added to the game and how to play with the Black Pearl/Flying Dutchman/Endeavour.

I really don't like setting more rules than need be, but things are getting rather confusing and cluttered up at the moment. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Nobody cares about this anyway; let's unpin it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

<!--quoteo(post=326204:date=Jun 7 2009, 02:09 PM:name=Pieter Boelen)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pieter Boelen @ Jun 7 2009, 02:09 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=326204"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Nobody cares about this anyway; let's unpin it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->I do.

I for one get confused with which version people are playing and would like to see some order.
Not sure if I like a democracy though (a lynch mob is in fact a democratic body - everyone wants the victim hung - without due process of law! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> )
I would rather see a republican approach - i.e. run by rules (laws)

So I agree with your approach. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I also agree with you Pieter. When I am looking for something I prefer to know where to go by looking at the subforum for the answer, if there is one. I think the procedure should stay.

Then does anyone have any suggestions on how we're going to make people stick to these guidelines?
Or should we just moderate all threads to end up at the right spot?
If so, we might need some more moderators just for the purpose of keeping all discussion in sensical subforums and sensical threads.
Personally I just don't have enough time to keep the forum completely clean and provide helpful replies in posts and work on PotC Build mod affairs.
Not to mention I've got things to do outside our digital pirate world too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Maybe we should make a rule/guideline saying that everyone should post the games and versions they're playing in their signature.
That helps a lot when people ask questions and prevents me from asking which version they're playing all the time. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

It would be better to show this thread every time new member come to forum <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Not a bad idea. How do we do that? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

BTW: Referring to your signature, the name is <i>Build 14 Alpha 9.5 Patch 1</i> or <i>B14 A9.5 P1</i> if you want to be short about it.
It might be better if everybody uses the same naming convention, otherwise we might end up with more confusion.
Build 14.9 suggests that Build 14 is done and we're working on Build 15. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Happier now? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate_plain.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p3" border="0" alt="pirate_plain.gif" />

Certainly. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

There is no better thing in Caribbean, then happy pirate <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

I'm an admin. More or less. But I still don't know how to do that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> well then, consult this with owner... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> This may need more complex editing of forum itself... But i dont know how to achive this either... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

The owner's temporarily unavailable, but we don't know how long "temporarily" will be. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

this behaviour rouls make perfectly sense and therefore i just updated my signature

!!Just leave it sticky, so its on everyones mind while using the forum!!

gruss raphael

If we can get it out there for everybody to put game version running in their signiture we can solve some problems by just saying that is fixed in ... instead of looking at the code, checking it and then asking them what version just for them to tell us an old version

Alright then; pinned again. But we still need to figure out a way so that people NOTICE this.
It seems that the one thing that is easy to ignore is the stickies. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Would it be possible for you to change the link from piratesahoy.net when you click on the banner to go to this topic instead with <b>Read this post before going into forum</b> (or something similar) and then have the link to the download thread at bottom of the post?

I wouldn't. Maybe Keith would. Maybe we should bring this to Keith's attention anyway.
It just seems that it's really hard to make ALL people notice the important stuff whichever way you put it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
