As far as I know, he drove more than one ship onto rocks being plastered.

Well, back to topic, sort of.
I was wondering about which of the skills are effective if officers have them and which one my player character must have personally. As far as sailing, cannons, accuracy, defense and repair is concerned, that´s clear, as is melee, but I´m not certain about leadership, luck and commerce.

As well, I´ve fiddled a bit with the officer´s types (in LAi_CreateOfficer.c). For one thing, I didn´t see why the navigator should be responsible for defense. As well, I exchanged Quartermaster and Boatswain, because, according to Cordingly, it´s the Quartermaster who´s responsible for all crew matters and boarding action, while the Boatswain (who is not necessarily among a pirate vessel´s officers, while the Quartermaster is) is responsible for all matters of ship handling (lowering boats, storing cargo, things like that).

All skills are. Even melee; when you board a ship your melee skill is temporarily whatever the highest is among you and your officers.

It's the perks that are only sometimes shared. Generally the `always-on` perks are shared and the `activate-via`-button perks you must have yourself, but there are some exceptions.

Truly so? I had the feeling having an officer with high trading skill didn´t do me much good when I was dealing with merchants and had a low skill myself. Or could it be due to not having the Commerce Perks myself?

Both the perks and skill in trading are always shared--as long as you have the officer "equipped', i.e. in one of the slots.
Even the "trustworthy" perk, oddly enough...

I´ll have to give that another try, for I *think* I had an officer with the "trustworthy" perk and couldn´t sell contraband goods in the store <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Just wondering - which of the skills are automatically turned on and which do you have to activate via the Use Skills button ?

I assume you mean perks? (Gad, this game is confusing... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> )

Off the top of my head, those that need activation are:
Rush
Instant reload cannons
Instant boarding
Quick repair
Instant repair
Fast 180degree turn
Shoal water ignore
Sea Wolf (when in worldmap)
Land Troops
Fireship

Did I miss any?

<!--`QuoteBegin-NathanKell`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(NathanKell)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->And he was active in an officer slot?[/quote]

Of course he was, else I wouldn´t have expected anything different. By the way, what´s shoal water ignore for, anyways? It doesn´t seem to have a use to me.

Sorry, just triple checking and no assumptions. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Occasionally around towns there are reefs--I've never seen one yet that's high enough to give trouble, but it's probably that Akella _intended_ this to have a use but never got to it.

Now that´s news, isn´t it?
