I looked at your making a Character Portrait Tutorial I am totally confused the pictures do not show up and the links are broken (where it says click here) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

But at the bottom you say "ENDNOTES: With the txconverter things are easier because you can pick and choose files, and with the gm viewer you are able to take much better pictures because you don’t have to find a place in the game with enough light or anything, so in conclusion use those tools they can probably be found at www.piratesahoy.net"

Could you pretty please with rum on top do a walk through using the txconverter and the gm viewer. Cat bless her heart has been trying to help me. But I cannot get these tools to work if you could find it in your heart to make a walk through tutorial with these 2 tools I would forever be in your debt.

Hello Seth,

That tutorial was writen before the Tools were released to the Community. As a result it follows the steps of converting .TGA to .TX using Resman's Tools as also described in the Retexturing Tutorial for same reason.

The TX converter is quite easy to use, just open the program, and you will have two colomns left and right.

The right Column is where you will go to get the .tx files and the left one where you will get the .tga.

There is only une Menu Item at the top press it to convert between the two formats.

Select the .tga file on the feft and press to Convert to .tx, select the .tx on the right and press same menu item at the top to convert to .tga.

Use your favorite Immage editing tool to make changes.

Now the GM viewer makes it easy to view the textures on a model without having to load the game to test your textures.

You only need to open the tool and browse in the proper .GM Model folder and bellow that Browse to the proper .tx texture folder.

However, the GM viewer does not apply in making character portraits because these are not textures on odels, I understand that part may have been a bit confusing in this case, but if you want to make Textures for models GM Viewer would come in to play to ease the process.

Also, please note that tehre are some Version of Editing tools that use an updated .tga algorith which the TX Converter does not recognise as a result it will not be able to convert those .tga files to .tx.

I noticed hapening with GIMP, Photoshop 7 and PSP * if I am not mistaken, althought prior versions of PSP or Photosop use the older compression algorithm for the .TGA format.

Hope this helps mate! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Happy Moding!

TX Converter works with Photo Shop 8 AKA CS

Changing ship skins is fun! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Oki then great to know its oki with Photoshop CS <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I was not sure <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I don't use PSP it was reported in the forums, but thanks for info.

So that leaves GIMP only? Anyone using GIMP can `re-confirm` please.

Re: programs.
I would think that since the TXC just converts to and from plain TGA, anything that supports `32-bit` TGAs would work (and AFAIK anything that'd support TGAs would support 32b ones).
