Warship from seadogs

Wonderful, I love Sea Dogs! It would be wonderfull to import ships (also frigate, corvette) together with some characters. Thank you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

PS. Would it be possible to add two bow guns on bow with Inez Tool?

You can click on that border with a ships list (somewhere where it's black, not on link) and then use down arrow to move that list down and up arrow for upward.

Is it possible to have this software on the FTP ? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I'll see what I can do, Bartolomeu. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Thanks Pieter,

This software could give me the possibility of making new things. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

If you want to make 100% new things, Maya is a lot better. At least we have the plugin for that.
I did do some 3DS MAX/TOOL combination for the mapships, but now that you CAN use the proper program, I think that's better. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I have a precise idea of what Seadogs models could fit well, having looked a lot to all model files before porting myself to PotC, a few years ago. There were a big bunch of interesting unused files, some with no textures. If you get us the program, I could find the time to look at it.

3DS MAX isn't exactly easy either. Plus the conversion process is less-than-ideal. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Hello Peter,

I did not know you could make square rigger models for Virtual Sailor. I downloaded their demo quite some time ago but never did much with it.
How true to life is it?

I purchased a 15yr old sailboat last year and was thinking I could gain a little experience with regard to high winds as well as close maneuvering.

I also had the opportunity, in 2000, to spend a week sailing on the Tallship Rose off Nova Scotia now HMS Surprise of San Diego.

Greg.

You can make any ships you want for Virtual Sailor, but I never made square riggers.
I made a cruiseship and a contain vessel; see my <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/vsshipyard/" target="_blank">old site here</a>.
Several years ago, I used to really like it. Then I ended up here instead. If you've got the demo, I recommend you try it out.
There's hundreds of additional ships freely available for download, which is definitly Virtual Sailor's biggest asset.

I actually saw the HMS Surprise, former Rose, when I dropped by San Diego when sailing on the Holland America Lina Zuiderdam as Cadet Officer.
Actually, that morning I was up on the bridge and saw her moored quite close; then at the end of the day, I literally ran over there for a few minutes just to check her out. About 15 minutes later I was to be back aboard the ship in uniform for the passenger boat drill. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

To modify some models, it is easier to use 3DS Max + tool ?

I wouldn't know; I never used Maya, so I can't compare. I think they're probably just as easy (read: hard). But Maya has the proper exporting plugin, which is a big plus.

Ok, I'll do. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> In fact, I would like to make a Xebec with a modified rear.

Hello Peter,

Thanks for the info. I will give it a shot.

The first time I saw the Rose in Chicago in 1992. It was her shake down cruise after getting her coast guard certification as a sail training ship. She was rescued from the people of Rhode Island in 1984 by Kaye Williams and brought back to life. Back then she still retained a portion of her original gun deck, about 6 cannon on both sides in the ships waist. There was a narrow sunken walk way between the two platforms. The main deck had been planked over. In Master & Commander, She was used for the shots where you see the ship sailing. All the interior and deck work was done a full size model sitting in a pond. When I sailed on her the starboard side had been converted into the crews mess. The port side platform still remained and was used for storage. All the cannon except 2 had been removed.

I got a chance to visit her in San Diego about three years ago. After the studio was done making the movie they just left her sitting at the museum dock. I believe she now belongs to the San Diego Maritime museum. The person I talked with stated the museum made a deal with the studio sell her to sell them the ship so the museum could take care of her. She was just rotting away. I believe they have got or soon will get their sail training certificate for her.

I think the Rose site is still up. At one time they had time lapse video of her going through the Panama canal.

If you ever get a chance to spend some time sailing a square-rigger I highly recommend it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" /> .

Greg.
