What is the use of pistols

All of the cutscenes are beautifil, I especially like the fight with Montalban in his hideout.
I´m not sure how to do it, but I once had another swordfight on the castle scene, not with Montalban, but with some officer. I just can´t remember how I brought that about, blowing up the powder room was pretty spectacular.

yeah I must admit I too wondered what the point of having the pistols were, I mean in my case he fires twice and yet you only see the pirate hit once?

But only if the defenders have less than 100 men. If they have 100 or more, you'll go through the land battle even if you have 500 men yourself...

Thanks for the reference. But nobody seems to have answered about the flame and the mirror.

Besides, does anybody cares about his/her relationship with Jesuits and Indians? I always find crosses and the like useless

The mirror is to signal passing ships after you are marooned on an island.

The Flare is for the same thing, but works at a greater distance.
