What ship do you think is the best

Or wat combination of ships. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Scallywagjack, and welcome aboard! Have an ale! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

I like to play a very simple version of PotC - I edit BuildSettings.h so that I can start out on level 4 (the level I would eventually reach if I spend time sparring with Malcolm before leaving the tutorial deck), and I also edit my ship (but not the money)... Something else I like to do is get my crew IMMEDIATELY on regular food and double rum rations. Their morale soars, and they fight like tigers for you. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Hire enough officers (at least three) so you can assign them to captain prize ships until you can get back to port and sell them, and you are on your way. Tell your officers you want to be told of ALL sightings, and also I like to play at Adventurer difficulty...

I start out with the Lugger CT (because I painted her and I like the way she looks). That little lugger is one of my favorite ships - not a lot of power, but she's speedy and just right for sneaking up on bigger ships. Catch 'em in their "blindspot" and you can board with no trouble and very little cannonfire damage. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

When I finally "outgrow" the Lugger CT I like to have something with a little more firepower - and that's the Xebec CT (again, I painted her). She is fast and has good cargo capacity (great for a rumrunner, LOL!)... If I get caught in battles that are just a little too much for me, I can turn tail and usually outrun my enemy.

Get a good sword with good block, and being outnumbered by a boarding crew will never be a problem. Just find a bottleneck and deal with only one or two enemy at a time...

I will eventually go with a larger ship - a Fast Schooner or a Corvette...

Here are pics of my Xebec CT:

Arr, an' a nice ship she is, capt'n Cat! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Welcome to the forums, skallywagjack! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

As for ships, well, Xebec CT or BR is my absolute favourite ship to sail! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> On my last command I had three of them... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> And most of the time, the AI captains behaved! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Skallywagjack. Welcome to this pirate-port-of-call.

For me its the Super Frigate. Speed and firepower.

Ahoy skallywagjack! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
I prefer at the latest stages of the game so sail with a MOW aka Manowar.
It's quite slow and the manuverability is not such great but with a good sailing skills and boarding skills I mannage to sink any ship I want in no time.
I would also suggest on the Battle ship,it has more speed and manuverability is better than the MOWs but it has less cannon power.
You can always go for a sertain winner, that is,a Corvette.

Skallywagjack, welcome aboard mate,I'd be prefer'n ter take me time dissect'n me oppenents ship, take out de sails wid chain shot, minimize her crew wid grape shot,an fer that ye need speed and agility,a Fast Schooner suits me needs fer that purpose, only time ye really need a lot O' fire power is fer take'n out forts <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Maties,

Let me just add that Skull's choice of ship is even more advantageous when one sails in realistic mode.

In arcade mode, even the slowest tubs are fast and maneuverable enough to make sea battles fun.

If however, ye be a commerce raider sail'n realistic mode, the lighter, and more maneuverable close-hauled ships are the way to go.

I normally go for a mixture of different types of ships, too suit all purposes like 1 battleship, schooner, corvette and an exebec/friget.

It combines both spped, manoverability and fire power.

Build default sailing mode is arcade. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

I edit the build setting to start with a gunboat and minimal cargo. I did edit the gunboat's cargo capacity so I don't get that "you don't have the capacity" message from store owners quite so ofter, although I still get it more than half the time. This makes taking escorts relatively more important early in the game.

I only practice with Malcolm the minimum I ncan so I don't level up, then I go get crew. I start out on the highest difficulty, so my crew are usually level 1. I get a first mate, a cannoneer, a navigator and two bosuns, although I'll take a quartermaster and make him a bosum if one comes along with some skill points to assign.

Then I steal everything that's not tied down from Oxbay, go through the dungeon halfway, and go to the cave and get whatever sword is there. Sometimes I walk over to greenford and steal what I can there, too.

Then I go get an excort quest and try to get a cargo quest, and leave Oxbay.

At this point I set the difficulty back a level and go siling around doing quests until I level up a couple of time. Once I've got a few skills, I'll start looking for a "ragtag bunch" that I stand a chance of being able to beat. Usually I can capture a lugger or other class 6, and thn I start capturing my way up the food chain.

I like that war schooner and the xebec CT for starters for their speed and maneuverability. Eventually, I've got everyone's skills buffed and have a couple of nice ships (currenly have a light frigate and a super frigate).

Then I start over.

American/Fast Schooner for raiding, light frigate for fighting. The snows are pretty, but don't beat to wind'rd like a proper schooner.

But what is the best ship on the game, for firepower, speed and igilty?

skallywagjack, IMO the Corvette is the perfect compromise. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

"nar unsinkable,provide'n ye don't take a hit "
Wouldn't that apply rather generally? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
