What's the BEST ship

I was wondering what IS the best ship in the City of Abandoned Ships, kinda like the Black Pearl was in PotC game.

I would say it depends upon what you like, what you want the ship for, most people liked the Corvette in POTC while some liked the MOW, i like the MOW and i like the Corvette but right now my favourite ship is the Colonial Schooner, so it depends on what you like.

Yep, big corvette fan here too. The Bluebird, which you can get fairly early on, easily pwns any stock corvette, though, <i>and</i> it's absolutely incredible in its ability to sail against the wind. The Dog of War is even stronger, faster, and has more crew, and nearly as good against the wind - I was a bit worried about that, being used to the Bluebird, but lower point of sail and higher speed seem to kinda cancel each other out. Downwind it's uncatchable. Easily able to beat a manowar in good wind.
Neither of those will do you any good against forts, though.

I'm useing the frigate from the peter blood quest but I've upgaded it's guns too 32lbs and given it better speed and manoverabilty

And you were supposed to sink that ship with a Manowar anyway.
Of course all the above was changed with the PotC Build Mod. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

dog of war is hands down the best ship in coas, with 20 base speed, excellent turning, acceleration, great crew capacity, and a good bit of firepower, plus a great bit of hull defense, best ship in game even better than my modded black pearl lol kinda made me jealous.

For raiding I get myself anything medium-fast with around 400 of crew.

The fat MOW's are controlled by officers. After looting a ship I just go to one of them and transfer the goods and then onto the next target <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

Good Idea! Never thought of keeping it as a MOTHERLOAD ship... I bet it'd be pretty safe there, depending on the officer.

Personally, I JUST started sailing a MOW last night for the first time. After I captured her from a French fleet that attacked me, I took out a few fleets, raided them, sold the ships (because they came after me right as I got out of port), and then I got a lot of money, which I used to upgrade all of the ship attributes in Bermuda. I have to say - without a doubt - that sucker is EXPENSIVE to upgrade. The speed and Maneuvering upgrades were pretty good considering, but the Frame upgrade was way over 1 million piasters by the time I got all the supplies to Bermuda! However, if I'm going to upgrade a ship, I only do it to those I intend to keep forever. The key I found was that I had to sail with minimum crew (147) to keep costs down, in order to afford the upgrades. It took me about 7 hours of steady playing to cover the costs and haul all the stuff to get that beast outfitted, and by gosh, I'd better LOVE this ship after!! LOL

I should mention, that my Commerce skill went WAY WAY up after finishing all the upgrades LOL (around +50 points!).

Is there someone you see about them?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Yes, you talk to the guy at the shipyard. He'll ask if you want to see a list of 'improvements' (that being the key word to look for in the text), and you can scroll through them to see what you'd like, and what it would cost you.

You can upgrade your Speed, Hull Space, Maneuvering, Crew Maximum (Overload Increase Only), and the Frame... and on some ships, even the Gun Size.

I'll try to sort this out the best I can... correct me if I'm wrong here guys:

<b>Speed</b> = cost of Sailcloth and Silk + Shipyard cost (Piasters)
<b>Hull Space</b> = Mahogony and Oil + Shipyard cost (Piasters)
<b>Maneuvering</b> = Planks and Linen + Shipyard cost (Piasters)
<b>Crew Maximum</b> (overload increase only) = Fruit and Clothes + Shipyard cost (Piasters)
<b>Frame</b> = Ebony and Sandlewood + Shipyard cost (Piasters)
<b>Gun Size</b> = Ebony and Leather?

(*Numbers of each vary on each ship, as do the costs for the shipyard to actually DO the work)

Any changes to this list, I will Edit Update

Note that the crew upgrade relates to the <i>overload</i> maximum. The number of sailors you can fit on the ship before taking morale penalties will not change.

Fixed, thanks <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The best ship is the corvette "Dog of War" which you can get in the CoAS.
The corvette has usually 20 knots, over 300 men and 3000 storage. Don't forget the 40 32lb cannons.
I really love that ship. It is even faster than the wind.

On my class 1 MOW the upgrade was like +1500 space, so quite worth it.
The materials on the other hand were in thousands, had to use 5 ships to bring them to the shipwright <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

And on corvette by the way it was like +500 or so.

My personal favorite ship is the Sea Wolf that you capture from the pirate quests. I know its not the BEST in all stats, but I love its look and it's a great pirating ship.

Can you upgrae so many ships as you need (providing you have the mats and the gold of course)?
