What's your game time?

Actually, the designers were right to some extent. The crew of the BP werent cursed for a little while after they took the coins out. How else could ol' Bootstrap Bill be sent to the bottom of the ocean, dead?
But, you are right about having to steal it from the Aztec chest.... Unless if you are around the curse for so long that it begins to affect you. Story magic can leak, you know, and affect whatever is around it, and that would just happen to be you...

But he had a cannon strapped to his bootstraps, so he did sink. It depends on how deep the water was where he was thrown overboard whether he was crushed into tiny cursed pieces that were still alive and only died when Will lifted the curse or if he might have been able to get the cannon off his feet and walk to land. No matter how far land would've been, you'd think that when walking the sea floor for ten years, he would've found land, right? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Remember: When Captain Jack Sparrow took a coin out of the chest and thus getting himself cursed as well, the curse took half an hour at the most to take effect. Barbossa's crew went to take over the HMS Dountless; not much later, Jack started fighting with Barbossa; when he was stabbed, he survived because the curse had already taken effect. It can't have been more than half an hour between the time Jack took the coin and the time Jack was stabbed. So I reckon the curse takes effect immediately.

Apart from that: I reckon the workings of the curse has been kept simple. Otherwise, 80% of the audience wouldn't understand. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

There's no proof in movie, nor audio commentary, that the PotC magic can leak. So you just made that one up, right? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Uh, to be quite honest, no, leaking magic from Discword, I think. That makes a lot more sence, tying the cannon to his boots, I always thought that they tied him onto the end of a cannon and fired <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

No, he sank from the weight of the cannon tied to his bootstraps... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Well, theoretically, he suffered enough from the extreme pressure of being that deep undersea that he expired... I'd think he'd still be able to survive it and get free and walk under the sea to land, but there seems to be a real fear the cursed pirates have of deeper water - so I think the pressure must cause problems - they can't go too deep or they will really die...

HKD,
I think Lady Cat is referring to the early part of the movie where Elizabeth Swann, (played by the lovely Kiera Knightly, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/love.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":luv" border="0" alt="love.gif" /> ) threatens to drop the cursed coin she has been keeping over the side of the ship and the pirates all betray that they want the coin by reacting to her threat.

That always struck me as a little contradictory, considering the Cursed Pirates can walk underwater, but maybe they're supposed to be in a really deep bay? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I thought that meant that they would need to search for it for years more, after all, imagine trying to find a coin in an area the size of a large field. It would take ages, even with a crew to back you up!

Ah but think on it, if she dropped it, someone could immediately dive overboard and EASILY follow it down to the seabed - they're immortal, right? So they could swim down all the way - if they weren't so concerned about the pressure of the deep sea...

NO! By carbonate of soda! Mings wants answers, NOW! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/guns.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2guns" border="0" alt="guns.gif" />

Remember when Elizabeth fell into the water and the coin set off a sonic pulse? I'd imagine that the sonic pulse would help the cursed soldiers find it, even under silt. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

If you were a cursed pirate when Elizabeth pretended to throw the coin overboard, what would you do? If it were me, I'd momentarily be shocked as well; that's before I would be able to think about it, because then I'd come to the conclusion that I could just as easily get it again. But that would already have allowed Elizabeth to see that she had something of value and since the pirates aren't pure nasty evil, but actually quite honest (for pirates <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> ), they would prefer to do things the easy way of getting the coin from Elizabeth and semi-betraying her. More easy and more fun; both for the pirates and the audience. Right? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

During the attack of the BlackPearl some pirates stormed the gouvenors residence. There they mentioned that the gold 'calls' to them. Thus i think they could sense a sunken coin at the ground of a bay as easily as they sensed Elizabeth hidden with her medallion in the wardrobe. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Good points, Pieter - I think we're just arguing for argument's sake. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
