Hi gang.

I have been away from the forum and the game for several months. Dealing with the death of both my mother and my brother. Now, I would like to get back to both the forum and the game. Which versions are most stable and which are being worked on? Is there somewhere I can go to read enough to be relatively up to date? When I reinstall on my new computer, the order will be original game, Build 13 Final, and then whatever version of 14 is best is that correct? And fianally is Pieter's site the best place to get this stuff?

As for PotC there's no much change. No stable Build 14 yet.

But in any case, you're MOST welcome back here. I don't remember exactly when we last saw you, so I'll brief you in on some of the "latest" developments.

<b><a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&showtopic=11301&view=findpost&p=226013" target="_blank">Build 14 Alpha 6 Update</a>:</b> This is based on Alpha 6, but contains some more stuff. Doesn't work very well though.
<b><a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&showtopic=11301&view=findpost&p=226227" target="_blank">Build 14 Alpha 6 Update 2</a>:</b> Released a few days after the Alpha 6 Update and does work better. I don't think it actually works better than Alpha 6 though.
<b><a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=10445&hl=" target="_blank">Build 14 Alpha 7</a>:</b> I think you know this one. This was actually made before Alpha 6 Update 2, but since it's so unstable, we made another update based on Alpha 6.
<b><a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&showtopic=10988&view=findpost&p=215124" target="_blank">Build 14 Alpha 7 Plus</a>:</b> This is an add-on for Alpha 7 containing more new stuff. Might be better than Alpha 7, but not exactly brilliant.
<b><a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&showtopic=11101&view=findpost&p=219958" target="_blank">Build 14 Alpha 8 WIP 1</a>:</b> This contains most of the new stuff and is said to actually work reasonably well. But still far from being brilliant. And the installation process is rather complicated. It does contain the "Capture Colonies" mod that allows you to capture a colony after attacking the fort.
<b><a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=11852" target="_blank">Build 14 Alpha 8 WIP 2 MAXIMUS</a>:</b> This was released a few weeks ago and contains almost all latest mods of Maximus' and several other modders. It contains the Curse of the Black Pearl film quest by Bartolomeu o Portugues and Short Jack Gold.
<b><a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=11854" target="_blank">Build 14 Alpha 8 WIP 2 PIRATE_KK</a>:</b> This was released shortly after the Maximus version as an additional download to that. It does not contain Maximus' latest code, but does contain Pirate_KK's latest code and some additional mods for that. Mods included are an updated "Capture Colonies" mod, the "Selectable Storylines" mod (support for multiple main quests!) and the Periods mod. It also contains the first version of the new Bartolomeu o Portugues main quest and different soldier skins for different periods by Thomas the Terror.

As far as recent development goes, Pirate_KK is still working on rather a lot of interesting things, Bartolomeu o Portugues has almost finished his main quest and there's already several new ships and character skins that aren't yet added to any of the Alpha's. I haven't seen any new modding work from Maximus in a while, though I do hear from him occasionally. The main challenges we have right now are to finish the mods we started, merge Maximus' and Pirate_KK's game versions (that's a major problem) and then fix the bugs and try and get things stable again.

I'd recommend you have a look at the various threads I posted above to find out what's new and then decide what you want to test. I think the order of stability is like this:
1) <b>Build 12.1:</b> More stable than the stock game and definitly better. Is missing a lot of new mods though.
2) <b>Build 13 Final:</b> Less stable, but still quite playable. Contains a lot of good stuff.
3) <b>Build 14 Alpha 6:</b> Still less stable, but remains playable. Contains even more good stuff.
4) <b>Build 14 Alpha 8 WIP 1:</b> Contains rather a lot of the latest new stuff, but stability is somewhat questionable.
5) <b>Build 14 Alpha 8 WIP 2 MAXIMUS and PIRATE_KK:</b> Released only a couple of weeks ago, so I don't really know how these compare to the others.

If you just want to play the game, Alpha 6 remains the best. If you want to help with testing, we really need testing on those latest two versions.

Thank you all for your kind words. In response to Morgan I will say they both died of natural causes my mother was 82 and my brother was 60.

With respect to the game I think I will start with build A6 just refamiliarize myself with the game again. I will play over the weekend and then next week in my spare time I will turn to testing.

Is the order of the install Orginal, 13 final, the 14 alpha 6, then the updates?

Seems there are a lot of talented and fine skilled modders in, at the moment <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I am hungry for some testing, as I have spent a couple of months playing the original PotC. And I can see now, how much influence a stable and (almost) bugfree game has on the user´s playing experience. If the playing experience is stable and fluid, the player will have bigger chances of believing the stuff, the game tells him to do. In the end, adding to the gameplay and gamevalue vs time spend by the enduser.

But actually, I would´nt know where to start, with both Maximus´ and pirate_kk´s WIP-versions out. Also it seems to me, that A6update2 is still in progress?

I have been testing build Alpha 2 update 2 for a about a week and find it pretty stable. Recently I am getting a runtime error on the map.

I am going to post the error log in a sperate thread.
 
A runtime error on the map. Wait! Do you, by any chance, have a completely full cargo hold? Or are you sailing with a lot of ships with a lot of cargo? That tends to upset the game during the day-to-day update at midnight. STILL not fixed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Also, you might want to open PROGRAM\Worldmap\worldmap.c and set MAPSPEED to 1.0 at the top of the file. That also seems to increase stability. Though I might've already done that by default in Alpha 6 Update 2.

We're not really doing any further work on Alpha 6. I made Update 2 because I wanted to give people something new and stablish to play. However, now we really need to continue with Alpha 8. The Maximus and Pirate_KK versions are both meant to be used side-by-side. They both have features, bugs and fixes that the other version doesn't have. They still need to be merged one day, but that's one helluva hard job and I have no idea when that might happen. Especially with just one active coder right now, being Pirate_KK. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Yes reducing cargo fixed the problem of the runtime errors. Now do you have any ideas why the corpse looting has stopped working in the middle of the game on A6+?
 
This is a good title for a topic, especially when I came to think about the mod.

I have´nt played the build mod for a while and I must admit, I dont know what you can do in the mod. Lets say the user i playing WIP2_pirate_kk.
Can he join EITC and get missions as of EITC was a nation, or is the EITC mod strictly PotC-related (Beckett and Co.)
Can the user in any case become a guvernor? And can he continue playing after this?
Is there an Elizabeth Shaw quest? And is there a character, that looks exactly like she does in the background image in the main menu?
How come, I never encountered any of the barrels that can hold several powderflasks in any store/market? (see Pieters Pirate Pages -> features)

Dont know if it is out of lazyness, I did´nt ask all these questions before.
