Why is my pirate always in poor health by age 40?

Oi.....
I did the test a while ago and my feeble aging mind may not remember the descriptions exactly but I do believe it did say excellent. I will do the test again to obtain exact age descriptions......Oi

Just to be clear though, I don't think that Health being a direct function of Aging is totally realistic, it just seems to be how it was programed.

I hate to ask other people to do experiments rather than doing it myself, but since you already found where the age is stored...

I'd guess that the most surefire way to test would be to take a file from a brand new 19 year old pirate and bump him up to 35, 40, 50, 60 and see what it does.

I recently retired a 36 year old or so Pirate with poor health - however, I did not notice any real difference in his abilities . . .

Maybe because I had items and such? I dunno - but I do know the machine did not tell me to retire, I just decided it was time. It is entirely possible to carry on with poor health for a while.

Anyway, I am going to see if I can survive without Wit and Charm - I am not bad at dancing now . . . I'm going for Medicine.

I'm still kick'n some arse at 42,only noticed a small decrease in reflexes when swordfight'n,an a course ye look older to <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I've never noticed a difference in dancing ability due to age, but when I'm playing swashbuckler, I can really notice the difference in swordfighting when I'm in poor health.

There isn't a specific address where age is stored, its rather a memory offset. I'm sure there are some really good tools for doing this kind of thing but I'm really not into it. I used <a href="http://ftp.tomsknet.ru/games/windows/omatic.zip" target="_blank">this</a>. I takes about 5 tries to find the address so have a some save game files with different ages.

I almost forgot, what ever age your searching for you have to subtract "18" from it. Eg...if your looking for age 24, you need to search for 6 (`24-18`).

in the old pirates! game, you aged by losing fights, meaning sitting around in a cell, deep below the walls of cartagena, or trying to survive on an deserted island.. that DOES affect your health !

i don't really think you age by being hit <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

also, remember: pirates didn't eat that well <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" /> - sauerkraut, if they were "lucky" !

I picked medicine at Adventurer difficulty, and I avoided fencing as much as I could. However, my character still become in poor condition after 38. I guess too much dancing leads to joint problems?

Well, I don't know about getting hit in deuls. Probably not good for you certainly.

Aging causes faling health. Thats just the way it is. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> It says so in the manual <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" /> . <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->When your pirate reaches certain ages-- 30,35,40,50, etc. -- the game determines if his powers have diminished.  If so, one game action becomes more difficult for him.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> These effects are permanent.

The good/bad news is that there is a bit of randomness involved here. Mostly luck. But you can help your luck a little, Especially by choosing medecine for your specialty, and by the medicinal special items. The description of these items in the manual does, however, imply that getting injured seems to affect health. Interesting. I wish I could say more than that.

Isn't it funny how the meaning of phrases can be entirely changed with the help of a small typo and a little `context-removal`.
