I can't play Pirates anymore! I just got the game, really sank into it...then yesterday I had to reinstall windows (for other reasons - the game was running fine though, before)...and now suddenly Pirates won't run. I tried completely uninstalling, then reinstalling it. Video card updated, then rolled back to an older driver version (per someone's suggestion). Sound driver updated. Reinstalled directx 9. Pushed all the graphics options in the game to max, messed with various settings between the game graphics and the comp graphics settings. Nothing works. Nothing makes a change.

What it's doing: the sound and video are off from one another, the sound is choppy and the video slows waaaay down and gets behind the sound...and then it'll go through a dance scene fine but at the very end when the dance is coming to a close the game freezes and crashes. Same thing in a duel. The video slows waay down.

The game was FINE before. What they hey could windows have screwed up so badly when reinstalled that the game is so unplayable now?!?

I've an ATI card and Windows XP - if anybody has any further suggestions of things to try oh please speak up!

sorry - installed directx9c. It definetely seems to be a driver issue, but I can't figure why - when it was running fine right before I reinstalled windows. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Have you changed anything since pirates runs last time? Which Ati drivers to you have? The latest or Omegadrivers? Does this error only accure if you try to play pirates or does other things also make trouble on your PC?

What does "Dxdiag" say about your directx? One safe way of doing this, is to do a system restore. Restore to a point in time, when you did not have the current version installed. In some few cases (recently with DirectX 9.0b) it has been necessary to uninstall the old direct x as the installation of DirectX 9.0c was somehow being prevented.

QUOTE(Tip from NobleJMs)

This is what you can do: turn the WORLD and OBJECT details ALL THE WAY UP, and run the game.

If it still crashes, try turning ALL the graphic options to their maximum, and run the game.

Again, if it still crashes, try different combination of WORLD and OBJECTS graphic levels, and run the game.

Ever tried some cleaning tools like "tune up" to solve some registry or other possible problems on your machine?

I'm missin' it

Hello - ok, I ran dxdiag and it says I've got Directx 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

I just tried doing a system restore, but I got a strange error: rstrui.exe it could not find the WINST A.dll ??

My current ATI driver: atidvag.dll 6.14.0010.6490 - I tried updating to the latest offered driver for ATI (I've a Radeon 9100, I know old)...but that made it worse. So I rolled back my driver.

This error message means that there´s a *. cab data missing which is needed for a complete system restore. Therfore some files you nedd for a complete system restore are damaged The rstrui.exe i is a part of WIN_17.CAB. Look at your XP Installation Cd if you can´t geht the missing file from there. Also check your restore drive /folder for any missing data.

It´s not easy to find a solution if the system restore doesn´t fit. That can have several reasons. Is "StateMgr" and "PCHEALTH" activated/marked in your tasklist / autostart?

Maybe this helps

Try `Start-Excute` C:WINDOWSsystem32Restorerstrui.exe. Then try to start the system restore again.

Another possibility
