Wishlist for new build

Hi all.

As newbie in the forum, it's very likely that this post SHOULD BE in other sub-forum. Sorry in advance.

Wishlist for new build:

*No more bombs. Or with a range a little more than grape shot, and with high ballistic trajectories

* No more bow guns. Never have been. Look even the original plans of 74 guns sails... no bow guns (yes, a couple of low caliber stern guns)
---BTW I can't understand why there wasn't. Maybe structural problems with the
recoils?

* More types of guns, and with smaller calibers.
-- I can't imagine a lugger with a 12 pdrs.... will crack the sides in the first broadside
-- Remember the first book of Jack Aubrey... the Sophie armed 8 pdrs... tried to
put 2 12 pdrs (one in each side) and almost sunk the ship... even they didn't
fire all the broadside guns at once, they fired rolling... the sides couldn't resist
the recoil
-- Proposal of calibers
--- 8 pdrs
--- 12 pdrs
--- 16 pdrs
--- 24 pdrs
--- 32 or 36 pdrs
(BTW, IIRC the biggest guns where the 48 pdrs... in the lower deck of
Santisima Trinidad - sunken at trafalgar)
-- Carronades could be a good idea. Where you can mount a 12 pdrs cannon,
you can substitute it by a 32 pdrs carronade.... much more powerful but with
much less range

* Weather
Actually, IMHO, wind direction and strenght changes too much and too aleatory (¿? - Not englishman - sorry)
After a glimpse at the code it seems that could be hacked:
- chanking wheather changes more often
- puttint limits at the changes
i.e. allow just 30 deg max direction change in high seas, and lets say till
180 deg near coast

* Better behavior of enemy ships - for flee and surrender
It's pathetic to see a lonely corvette, going against the wind, and trying to close to your 100 cannons Manowar... and, btw, sadly too to sink such a beauty ships sometimes (I remember a black Xebec - the "Proserpine", and also a pirate corvette )
- Could it possiible make the enemiy ships make morale checks and decide to flee if the enemy its too strong?

- Also it's not reallistic to have a frigate, without masts, at 20% of hull, at 100 yards of a Manowar, being gunned from bow, and not surrendering.... maybe could be hacked making a sort of automatic boarding, at long distances (let's say 200 yards or so, or the grape distance)

Several of these things will indeed be changed in the next update. There's a new realistic cannon mod that, among changing other things, also remove the bombs (except for giving them to forsts as heated shot). You'll probably find that many of the things you request will indeed be implemented soon. Unfortunately, there's no stable modpack version available including these mods.
 
Another thing which is irritating in build 12 is that when you are on a very high level your enemys get generated with very good swords so that even if you have got a sword like the Solingen Rapier which has 90% block (I think) they can pierce your blocks which I hate!
 
He's got some good points... rolling broadsides would be very realistic on the PotC ships.

That thing with the swords? I think you can play on a different difficulty level and it will be less of a problem. I'm unsure of the ratio in regards to level, though. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

To put it simply, grapeshot was only used when you were close enough for a boarding. Because they are just musket shots, you cant shoot too far with them because they simply woulnt do any real damage from far away. Also, they did use bombs in that age, and some bombs would have been lighter (they arent solid iron). Perhaps you could alter the amount of gunpowder you put in.
 
The cannons are already done in the pre-Build 13, which is still in Alpha or perhaps early Beta phase, the guns range from 4 to 32 pounds for ships, and up to 42 or 48 (I´m not sure there) for forts, dito is ship surrender and destroyable cannons, among ther things.

About the swords, I´m working on that myself, take a look in the not-Build modding forum, the topic is "swords".
 
one thing i would like to see in the new build is the ability to trade with merchant fleets at sea.... maybe hand over captured pirates to warships.

In that way you will have more interaction with those boring friendly fleets
 
I like your idea about talking to the friendly fleets, Sofus! I've often thought we should be able to get rumors from other ships, news, that kind of thing... Who's at war... Yep. That's possible. Pirates! or Pirates! Gold come to my mind immediatley, you could choose there whether to engage a ship, to hail for news or to sail away. As long as you were not too hostile towards the ship´s nation and they were no pirates, usually they would have told you the latest news. That was a great system, it´s a shame it got abandoned in SMP, dito the sightings at sea.

What nation will be on that island?
 
There will be a whole bunch of new islands added with different nations. I don't know exactly how many; I think there are at least five ones added to the worldmap and 3D sailing mode. Only most of the land locations and characters aren't added yet.
 
Would it be possible to have some pirate friendly merchants & shipwrights on these new islands? Due to my reputation these are the only people I can trade with. B <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />
 
I'd like to have more random things to happen in PotC. Maybe things like:

- numbers of bandits (1 - 4), not always 4
- more random nations for coastraiders, and more ships (1-4), not only pairs
- chance to meet bandits on ports, esp at night, and no soldiers around
- chance to get a slap over the head when exiting an inn at night (wake up on a beach, being robbed etc)
- chance to meet soldier patrols in the jungle, esp when island nation is your enemy (they sent patrols to search for you)
- chance to meet smugglers on the beach, without having to go to the inn 1st
- chance to witness a military attack on a pirate island when u get there
- more usable doors with random rooms / dungeons / caves
- NPCs that approach you with a small story / request / etc, rather than waiting for you to approach them

You should be able to manage that. I know CCC managed to do it as well in his "Enlarged Oxbay" mod.
