Yet another idea from myself Cap'n Cornish.

Firstly I wish I had the skills to make my ideas and release them! Lol.

Rite my idea is at any port in either the port or the town, you have whats called a Prize Manager or sumthin like that, where you can drop off all your loot, e.t.c. so you dont have to use up space on your ship and you can store money and other items there as well, for a small charge by your prize manager, maybe it could be an adaption of the loan shark and rename him.

Also as an adaption to the ship yard rather than just flogging your proze vessel, you find out ho much each nations shipyard would buy the vessel from you for flog it to the hidhest bidder. Also another option find out what nation requires what type of vessel and then you go out and capture a ship and flog your captured ship to the nation that is in need of that type of vesssel and you get a bigger amount if that type of vessel is in demand. also if your ship is in good condition with lots of crew then you get more for it than you would if it was badly damaged with less crew.

Is this possible?!?!?

Cap'n Cornish.

Isn't the captain's cabin something similar to what you describe in your first idea? When out at sea (sailing view), press enter and choose "Enter cabin" from the menu. There are several cabinets there where you can store personal belongings, including gold.

The current build already supports something similar to a real market system of offer and demand I believe, so making some adaptations to implement this for the ships too shouldn't be too much of a problem. You'd just have to decide which countries need which type of ships, which would be harder.

First you'd have to assign a fleet to each country, with a number of ships for each type. Then you'd have to have battles actually count the losses of ships (including battles that the player doesn't participate in) and from those losses calculate the demand of ships for each country (taking into amount the amount of money they have and are willing to spend on their fleet). But that's only required if you wish to make it a very lifelike mod, if you just want some extra fun you could do with lots of random numbers <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />.

Very interesting idea. For the record, the period term for this `prize-manager` of yours is "`prize-agent`." The prize agent would take the prize what was called the prize court. Here they would determine first of all if it was a lawful capture by examining its pass and logs, and if so, determine what would happen to the ship. It could either be bought into the service or sold to private men. Ideally it would be purchased by the navy. The prize court would also deal with the cargo.
After all the financial business was finished, the officers and crew would get their shares (for ease of typing I will refrain from giving all of the prize shares of the Royal Navy, however it can be found easily enough through google or a trip to your local library). If the prize was not a lawful capture then the prize court would award the owner of the vessel and cargo damages (with the capturing captain footing the bill).
The crew would not factor into this because they would be parolled, man for man, and returned to the home nation. Often times, they would be sent back before a suitable prisoner exchange could be arranged, but they had to swear on their honour not to fight until they were officially parolled. I have never heard of this rule being broken, so I have to assume it was regularly followed. It saved money on the keeping of prisoners and helped to maintain the "gentlemanly" aspect of war (hah).

O'Brian fans know full well the anxiety Jack feels concerning the prize court, and especially `prize-agents`.

Yes I recently read the first M&C book and couldnt remember the term, thankyou for sorting this terminology for me.

So is anyone interested in making this Mod or anyone interested in teaching me how to make it?

regards,

Cap'n Cornish.
