    Proof Experiment, Courting for Promotions

Hmmm, if I'm understanding correctly, I don't think this would work if you are only level 4--even if you make the daughter and hence the governor "happy" with the ring/necklace, wouldn't that just count toward your next promotion, rather than getting you land? I have only got land from a...

    Dancing for Promotions!?! :?:

I noticed a similar thing when I was dancing "lost city" clues out of a spanish beauty. I had already received all the spanish promotions. I just danced, left town, came back to dance again, and before every dance, the governor would give me 50 acres of land, even though the only thing I had...

Why is my pirate always in poor health by age 40?

With my most recent pirate, I've been cutting down the number of times I get hit (using the pause key) pretty significantly, but I seem to be losing health at the same rate as I did in earlier games. And if the number of times you get hit doesn't affect health, then what the heck are the...

Why is my pirate always in poor health by age 40?

I've read here about pirates that are retiring in their 50s or 60s, etc. How are you all doing that? My pirates all have retired in poor health before the age of 40, even though I have the medicine items. Is there some mod that I don't know about? Have you all discovered the fountain of...

    I lost Marquis Montalban

If there is a picture of Montalban in the upper left corner of your screen when you are at sea, you should be able to click on the picture and bring up your most recent information about where he is. Raymondo's picture will bring up Raymondo's information, etc.

    Two quick questions

Marriage in this game is great--it really doesn't cramp your style at all! All the girls love me (since I got my dancing slippers), and my wife will reliably give me a treasure map clue every time I go home and dance with her! For serious power gaming, marry a beautiful girl over in...

    When do new Raymondos appear?

I was assuming that, after catching a Raymondo, a new one would appear somewhere at the time I got my next clue about where he was holed up. Yesterday, however, something happened to make me doubt this. I had just caught a Raymondo and was heading back to port and I saw a ship that looked...

    talking nonsense?

The beautiful daughters seem to say something like "sonrisa?" which sounds like spanish for "smile" (I think--or maybe "laugh").

    Dancing on a laptop keyboard

Or just plug in a regular keyboard to the laptop and use the number pad on that...

Baron Raymondo never go into a port

I caught him in a tavern once. What happened was that I had just defeated him, went to Cumana and danced, and the daughter gave me a clue that Raymondo was holed up in...Cumana! So I went to the tavern and fought him there.

    Treasure is too less!

It is pretty annoying to pay around 2000 for all of the pieces of a pirate treasure map on swashbuckler level, and then recover a treasure that is only 2000 or 3000 for all your work...

possible to attack other settlement types

One more benefit that the pirate haven provides: If you are trying to curry favor with lots of nations at once, you can go to the pirate haven, tell the captain that a nearby city needs plundering, then attack the ship that the haven sends out. In short, use the havens to spawn new pirates to...

My wife got a nice tan!

Yeah, I married the beautiful dutch girl with the red and green dress (yes, I choose my brides based on their dresses. What can I say other than that I'm female and wouldn't mind an option to play Anne Bonney or Mary Read, and romance a governor's son sometime). Next time I came back, spain...

I want to be a swashbuckler! Any tips?

Thanks, all. I've had good success using the pause method to learn to do the 8 and 2 defenses. (I wasn't just using `4-4`-4 before, but more like `4-2`-`4-2`, at least against guys that weren't also using rapiers.) I'm not really convinced that the way to go is to only use the defensive moves...

    Dancing? Oh! It's difficult!

There are fewer than 10 combinations of moves, total. Most of the combinations are in groups of 4 steps, although there are several groups of 8 or 12 steps. You can always recognize a combination by the second move in it, at the latest. For example: If she starts a combination by moving...

I want to be a swashbuckler! Any tips?

Thanks. I'll try the `2-handed` strategy. (But I think I'll retreat to rogue level to practice 'cause I'm getting tired of sitting in that jail cell.)

    Post Your High Scores HERE!

Total score: 118 Rogue level I got all of the points except for 2 promotions from the french and maybe half a dozen wealth points.

    Fun

Actually, I thought the governor was hiding his face in embarrassment when I stumbled... And I love how the daughter kind of yelps when I stumble. I think I stepped on her foot!

I want to be a swashbuckler! Any tips?

I've played the game successfully through rogue level (score: 118--Yay!) and decided to try swashbuckling. The dancing is fine, the ship battles are fine, but I can't even begin to duel! On all the previous levels, I have used a rapier and gone for quick attacks--very little parrying...
