Any easy way to obtain Build11?

Killer

Landlubber
Greetings all, I am quite new here. I dowloaded the Build 12, but then I found out that it needs an inet connection which I do not have at home. So I tried to download the Build 11 from <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.net/component/option,com_docman/task,doc_download/gid,6/Itemid,46/" target="_blank">http://www.piratesahoy.net/component/optio...id,6/Itemid,46/</a>

but it says The document is being edited/updated by an user and is unavailable at this moment.1160!=1162

One of the most stupid error message I have ever heard. So the only build avaiable is now the 10.1

Anyway how to download the 11?

Please help.

yeah ...i was actually editing it just then..................

and rename the extension to .exe the server is being a bit of a pain atm

Just discovered that there already is another thread regarding this and I am downloading it now.

What will I miss if I do not download the textures and bug fixes? Is it possible to install it here at work with everything necessary and then just take it home and copy?

Actually, you can download and use build 12 even without an inet connection on the computer on which PotC is installed. Run the installer on one with connection, copy the files on a large enough memory stick or cd rom, then copy them into your PotC folder at home. At least, that´s what they told me to do <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Hello,

I thought about it. I even tried it, but the damn 12 installs so terribly long that I can not finish the installation (you know I must work, not install games <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> However I may try it at my friend's PC and then take it home. However I have the game for only 4 days and I want to finish the unmodded one first.

Ah, work, that necessary evil, with pronounciation on evil <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

As far as I know, you can do the quests of the normal game in the builds as well and with build 12, you can even tweak the skeletons back in.

Yes, work. Fortunatelly it is not a hard one (usually) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
But I do not want to start again. I will finish this game and then start a completely new one to see the difference.

Don't worry about the extra textures; they are strictly cosmetic and will not affect your gameplay - I just changed the maps hanging on the walls to either be `CORRECT-reading` (they were backwards) or a map of our game archipelago, NOT the Caribbean... I made a nice printable map to correspond with the changes - but again, they are strictly cosmetic.

The current updates should be integrated into the B12 full download - you will not need the updates checked until after you've installed B12 and we announce an update - then you will use the installer program to get ONLY the updates - and not the entire build 12 again. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Now, this "update" function is one very, very clever idea. Especially for people who don´t have access to the ´net at all times. Whoever thought that one up certainly deserves a big <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Yes I agree. I like to download "all in one" which I can here at work and at home just download small updates. Great idea. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

<b>Mad_Jack</b> did the excellent work on the installer, and <b>dcHaley</b> helped by providing us with a CVS server so we can update our mods / the build on the fly. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

The "full" B12 IS available, Killer, it's just that updates will come more often - and if we have a new update (coming up) that will cause you to have to start a new game, we'll let you know. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Well I thought "full" to be the one which does not need inet for installation. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> The current one, if I am right, has about 4 MB and the rest is downloaded from inet. That is why I was looking for Build 11 which is truly "full".

You can use the installer to download B12 into any directory of your choice and then save it to a disk to take to a different computer - you will lose the capability of an UNINSTALL, however you can take the files and overwrite your game files for installation by copy/paste. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Same with updates, whenever they come in. Right now, if you just download B12, it is updated - it is only after you've installed B12 that you can get small updates as they come without having to download the entire build again. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Well, but the current download is 3.7 MB or something and when you run the install, it downloads thousands of files during the installation. I can not run it here at work, nor can I do it at home. That is the main problem. I tried it here at work and it downloads sooo slooowly even though there is a very fast connection. In my opinion, it would really be better do make it all in one big download. It will take much less time than to download so many small files one after another.

It IS one big download (around 70MB, IIRC)... If you cannot get it all at once, I think you will be able to resume it when you can and it should pick up where it left off... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> I think that's how Mad Jack set up the installer.

If it does not, let us know - I think we can fix that so it does... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Well maybe I am a little dumb <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> but when I download the Build 12 it has only 4 MB. And then when I try to install it, it downloads files from inet. And it takes too long. Maybe after it is finished, it has 70 MB I do not know. So my question is, why not to put everything in one nice big ZIP/EXE which can be downloaded and installed without ANY need of internet?
Oh and one more question. I finished the unmoded game yeasterday. Then I renamed the program directory and moved my saved games and run the Build 11 standard install file. I unchecked the new textures and updates fields, other were checked. After the installation I run the game, selected a new game and the game started. I was in a bath robe, chose the original outfit, trained with the sailor (and gained one level, great!).
Then I quit the game (I was hitting escape and nothing, then I tried F1 <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> )
Then I opened the file B11update.zip (or what is the name of it) which I downloaded here at work by selecting the update field during the install, I copied its content to the POTC directory, replacing the old files and when I start a new game, it quits to Windows. What have I done wrong? Please help. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" />

No Killer, you are not dumb. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" /> But there are circumstances involved here which you may not have knowledge about. That doesn't make you dumb, unless you do not ask questions. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

B12 has an installer - which is the 4MB file you initially download. The installer is what you need to get the rest of the files. It's set up so that installing B12 on your computer where you have your game is fairly painless and easy.

If you are not downloading the gamefiles to the computer you have the game on, you can still download B12 - using that 4MB installer you can download the files into an empty directory that you designate. After you download the B12 gamefiles you can then copy all of them to a disk and take it wherever you have your game and just do a copy and paste over the existing gamefiles. The only thing you will lose by doing this is the option to UNINSTALL, which is built into the installer but not into gamefiles you just copy and paste.

To put everything into one big zip/exe file could be done - but you would STILL need the internet to download it, and it would STILL take a long time to download. The size of the files are inescapable, even if compressed into a .zip or .rar or .exe file...

Having server space to store this download is also costly. Believe me, if I had the space, I'd do just exactly what you want for you - but I cannot, and I don't think Keith or anyone else involved in this Build can, either...

The download the way it is can be stopped and resumed, I believe. If it's taking too much time, just stop and resume it later. If we give it to you in one big chunk, if you start to download and have to stop, you will have to start over again to get the whole package... As it is at the moment, it's in "packets" which are small and easily downloaded in chunks - and this download can be stopped and resumed, IIRC...

I'll ask Mad Jack to come here and explain it, maybe he can make it clearer than I. He's the technical wiz! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

I'm not sure why the B11update.exe files would cause your game to crash. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Does it crash before it opens at all? Or do you get the F1 menu so you can select "New Game"?

What kind of graphics card do you have?
