I was watching this part of this video showing Far Cry 1.
Frankly, the sea is magnificient...
The game was only released 7 months after Pirates of the Caribbean. It was DirectX9 and used Pixel and Vertex shader 2.0
On the other hand, Pirates of the Caribbean was DirectX8.1 and used Pixel and Vertex shader 1.4
I wonder if Akella was able to make a better engine for better graphics if they had had more time to release their game...

I thought the graphics of PotC were very good by 2003 standards.
Not FarCry good, but very good all the same.

As for your question on having more time, the later Storm 2.8+ games should answer that.

Yes, the graphics of POTC for a 2003 game are very good.
But, Far Cry released a few months later is another level for the graphics :)
Storm 2.8 is CoaS right?
I think the water is still better in Far Cry.

If that clip is anything to go by, Far Cry shows water lapping onto a beach better than PoTC but does not show waves at all (apart from very slight ripples). Also, look at the grass, and then see how PoTC handles it. In that video, skip ahead to about 8:35 to see Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl, which seems to show vegetation more like PoTC, including the way the grass sways in the wind.

You're right, the sea is pretty flat. POTC is much better on this aspect.
About the vegetation, I watched another video, the grass doesn't sway in the wind.
So, two points to the advantage of POTC.
