Disable weapons from boarding?

drk

Landlubber
Ahoy everyone,

This is my first post here, so first of all big kudos to the team for bringing the Build mod to life and thus making PoTC the best pirate game ever (ok, maybe one of the two best alongside the original Pirates! by Sid).

OK, enough praising. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

I'm playing Build 13 Final and after playing dozens of games I'm starting to miss the thrill of searching for new weapons, going to all those caverns and dungeons in order to find the new razor-sharp toy. Now it is easy to have all the best weapons almost immediately so there are some swords that I've never used. And there is little point in using them if every opponent runs around with Bosun's Choice.

Sooo...

I turned off the Weapon mode, hoping that would solve the problem, but still collect weapons from killed enemy boarders. After few battles again my whole crew has BCs and same story goes on again.

Sooo...

I'm thinking - the ideal solution would be to link the ship's class to the weapons her crew's carrying. I.e. all merchant ships (except for the biggest and best armed, like the Indiaman or Royal Galleon) should have significantly worse crew's personal weapons than warships. I'm thinking :

1) merchant ships - unless really big - the worst weapons (sabres, cutlasses etc.)
2) big merchants and small warships (class 6-4) - mid range weaponry (highlanders maybe?)
3) medium warships (class 2 and lower let's say) and pirates - good weapons (piranhas and stuff?)
4) Class 1 warships - Bosun's Choice for all crew members

The most unique weapons (judging by the description, like Cardinal's Guard) should be placed only in Captains' cabins of top class warships and the biggest pirate vessels (as experienced Captains' prides).

This soultion would make attacking powerful enemies double worth trying plus would add much more reality to pirate - merchant situations (small number of well armed pirates wouldn't have much problem in dealing with those fat merchants, just like in reality).

Possible?

Or at least PLEASE tell me how can I revert to the original PoTC weapons management with keeping all other Build features!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Have a look through the various options in BuildSettings.h. There should be some there having to do with looting dead enemies.

The first time I played with corpse looting was build 14, and I'm shocked at the amount of loot you get. Previously I was just getting stuff from enemies I'd personally killed and from chests on the boarding decks. Now I get amazing amounts of junk from every dead body. I guess that accounts for why a lot of the new boarding decks don't have loot locators.

Indeed; something's a bit inbalanced. There was a mod that greatly devalued the money you'd get from swords and also changed a lot of other weapon-related values. I forgot if that actually made it into Alpha 8; it was Ron Losey's work. Also Maximus added some code so that all enemy boarders should just have 0 gold. Both things should at least improve matters. But it's still far from being perfect... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

AoP probably doesn't have loot locators at all and they probably never added them to the SLiB mod decks either.

Been there, done that <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> But as far as I could understand it doesn't affect looting during boarding. So instead, I'm going through internalsettings.h (or similar, I'm at work now and can't remember the exact name).

I found a line that influences what items you can find depending on your exp level - right now it's at +10 (so at level 1 you can find items that would normally require exp lvl 11). Changed to +1, will do the testing if that influences opponents when boarding. If yes, I'm halfway there: doing weapon mission makes sense again <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

You did find CORPSEMODE and AUTOLOOT_ON in BuildSettings.h, did you?
If you turn both off, that should make a bit of a difference.

Yep, I did but it didn't seem to work when I (only for testing reasons of course) killed an enemy captain who had surrendered. I got his weapons anyway.

I think it might be different for enemy captains, but I'm not sure. Take into account that a new game is required for these settings. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Yes sir, that was the case after starting a new game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> Anyway, I'll check if boarders have been affected by the changes today evening. If I could get new weapons only from captains it might actually be quite interesting: "Hmm... Should I keep him for ransom or kill him to get his brand new, shiny whatever-the-guy-is-carrying?? I reeaaally don't know..." <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
