Limiting ships to certain nations

although it would mean more work, how about a sort of secret or maybe not secret american base on the other island of FDF?

Would be fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

i think it should be secret, because the townsfolk only say that the old city used to be on the other island. (that's probably the result of that bridge between the cliffs) they say nothing about a possible new settlement.

Nope, the first "frigatas" popped up in 15th century Mediterrainian, probably of Italian origin. They were 2-masted squareriggers and carried only light weapons and were partly driven by oars <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

those things sound like fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> any pictures?

I'd personally prefer an American ambassador better than a secret base...
What I don't like with FdF is that it doesn't look like a town. There aren't any streets, buildings are anywhere in an anarchic way, and there are too much town walls. Could be interesting to change the aspect of the city with time. In the mid-XVIII/XIX century, some buildings could be added in a lot of places... The town would have extended. Some poor houses could be replaced by nicer.

sorry, I'm not talking about the first use of the <i>word</i> frigate but of the <i>design </i>of a "modern" frigate <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> . I can't remember for sure which ship it was (my encyclopedia of ships is at my parents' house), but there was a particular ship that kind of launched shipbuilding into the long, low, and narrow design that was characteristic of the frigate in the napoleanic period. My main point was that the design of the ships in the game are at the earliest mid 1700s based on the design of the ships, most notably the "frigate" design of the so-called corvette (the "corvette" from the game is actually more like the common napoleanic frigate than the frigate is). How I am using the word frigate is how most people use it: to denote the more "modern" design. In fact, before people starting using the term "frigate" for the class of ship directly below that which could survive the line of battle, it was used to indicate the longer, lower, and narrower design of almost all of the "modern" warships of the late 1600s and early 1700s including two-deckers etcetera. So I'm not sure, but I think I remember one of the first major warships to utilize this design principle and have one gundeck (kind of like a "normal" frigate) being German. It may have been French though. I'll check it out the next time I visit my parents.

We're not talking about the same type of ship.

And I think you might like FDF more if we actually biefed it up a little. And I think it would be cool to be able to visit the other side of the island. Maybe the Americans don't have a hideout there, but somebody possibly could (smugglers, pirates, or even an old hermit or something. who knows?).

FDF is more of a single street, built in a valley of the mountains on the island. that's why it's shaped like that. doesn't make sense why it has walls then though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

We've already got smugglers and pirates on other islands. An old hermit also sounds like fun. I think that whatever we'd add, it'd need to contribute something to the gameplay. A quest or some new items only available there or something else. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

<!--QuoteBegin-Pieter Boelen+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Pieter Boelen)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Adding the Americans to Falaise de Fleur would save us the trouble of adding an American colony to the game AND would add something interesting to the French colony. We already have some other forum members referenced in the game as well. Nathan Kell is mentioned in some dialogs, Skull is mentioned by Mateus Santos, Bartolomeu o Portugues, Pieter Boelen and Pirate_KK are all there as characters. Also there's a lot of forum members on Mateus Santos' hitlist. And let me point out that <i>I</i> did <i>NOT</i> add myself.

and let ME point out that i'm NOT on the list. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" />

I didn't make the list. You might not even have been here yet when the list was made. But personally I do think you should be taken out. I'd put you on #1 if it were MY hitlist! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

oh, please, DO come in my direction with your ship. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

i was here at that time. the list appeared in the update for that quest, remember? i came here just before the release of build 13 beta 8 or 7. to be precise, one day after admiral 8Q dissapeared. hmm....that DOES sound suspicious. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I hope i'm not on the hitlist. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

But if i am on the hitlist then the seas be CURSED and me be coming to you and sink your ship to the depths. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />

If some of you wanna put my character into the game to make getting Cursed Corvette more logical then that quest of me would have three opinions:

1) You'll obtain a beatiful Corvette by doing my first quests right and later on by finishing last part of my quest you'll get cursed and you'll get your beatiful Corvette cursed also. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

2) Serve as me crew (Death, game over). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

3) Death in the seas (A battle what you DEFINATLY lose, game over). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ko" border="0" alt="ko.gif" />

BUT there's one problem with my Cursed Corvette: It needs a light colored unique non-cursed Corvette skin
(Greenish or light brownish will do) and then it would look good in cursed look too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

If some of you could help me with teaching me how to paint texture on a ship then i would be glad to hear that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I did have another thought though: The main quest is being rewritten to be a CotBP prequel, so the sightings of the Black Pearl during the original main quest need to be changed to something else. Now we could change that into the Flying Dutchman, but I think it wouldn't make much sense for the Flying Dutchman to show up at Khael Roa. Also we already have the First Contact quest where you meet the captain of the Flying Dutchman and later end up in a fight with the Dutchman that you will have to escape as well.

So I was thinking of using your Cursed Corvette to guard the treasure of Khael Roa. Then we could come up with some sort of story how the captain was cursed for his greed for wanting to steal the treasure and now he has to guard the treasure. But then the player comes along and wants to steal the treasure as well. So then we could try and figure out some way to get the treasure in an honourable way (you don't get cursed) or to get the treasure in a dishonest way (you do get cursed). How about: You can capture the ship of the cursed captain, but then it changes to its non-cursed look, unless you got the treasure the dishonest way. Perhaps we could make it so that if you're cursed, your HP will slowly degenerate instead of regenerate and when you die that way, you are also cursed to guard the treasure forever (game over). So you need to find some way to break that curse, which might be where the indian settlement or old hermit to be added to Falaise de Fleur might come into play. There is one crewmember of the Black Pearl on Falaise de Fleur already, telling a story that makes no sense really. So we can change that into one of the Cursed Corvette's cursed crew who can give you the hint on how to get rid of the curse again.

Just some completely random thoughts. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

That's partially a good idea plus my Cursed Corvette still needs a proper unique ship skin what does look good in cursed state too.

And actually i made this Cursed Corvette just simply to sail/haunt the seven seas just like the Dutchman. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

i've also seen some black and gold corvette. too bad you need a light one, because i really want to have that one.

the decreasing hp would make it run out way earlier than you can make it to the island. if you do want to implement something like this, i'd make it so that your hp decrease with every level, making it increasingly harder to survive. eventually, you'd die.
