Missing Ropes

Cylon13

Super Zealot
Ok it's not really a bug, it's more of a ship model issue ..i recently noticed that smaller ships like brig and schooner ship types are missing ropes from some of their sails/masts. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

What in the name of is going on with those ropes? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Post a screen shot (F8 key in game) of the ship and the name of the ship (i.e., Brig, Brig MM, Schooner, etc.) and I'll take a look at 'em in Inez Diaz TOOL. These "invisible ropes" are normally caused by a rope not having a start or end point. I've already fixed a couple "missing" ropes on ships in my game (the Bermuda Sloops), but haven't released them yet.

Check system.log for something like this:

<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->Bad rope data for rope: (rope num = 13) (begin group=0, end group=-1)
Begin pointer = 0? end pointer = 143006988
Bad rope data for rope: (rope num = 2) (begin group=0, end group=-1)
Begin pointer = 0? end pointer = 143006988
Bad rope data for rope: (rope num = 22) (begin group=0, end group=-1)
Begin pointer = 0? end pointer = 143006988<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

This "bad rope data" is SOMETIMES caused by the missing endpoints of a rope, however, some threads here have indicated it could also be caused by certain graphics cards. I can tell you that if a rope is "invisible" in game, then it is most likely caused by the missing BEGIN or END point.

Ah ..okay anyways i noticed that not only small ships but any ship in game, most of them have the missing ropes. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Okay i'll try make screenshots of some missing rope ships. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Here's the ship (Slib's brig) what i first noticed to be having invisible ropes.

<img src="http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc220/Cylon13/missingropes0.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Upper mast areas and the mizzen mast seem to be having missing ropes.

And heres my system.log

That "bad rope data" is NOT from bad rope mapping on the Brig SS. All ropes have a start and end point.

<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->ropee1 - ropee1->ropeb1 both on brig3_mast1.gm CORRECT

OK, so you THINK there should be ropes there? Or you WANT ropes there? Or are you sure that this is an "invisible" rope? You can normally tell if you have a sail that is billowing and appears to be anchored somewhere, but you cannot see a rope line.

Look at the Bermuda Sloop for an example.

"Invisible" Ropes: Caused by incorrect rope mapping. Currently this way in the builds.

And, you need to get to FULL SAILS to be able to see all the ropes.

FYI, I'm not positive, but the other ship in your screen cap could also be causing some of the errors. I think that the game will report rope errors for ANY ship in the scene. Could someone confirm that?

I'm working on a "hands-on" tutorial for "rope fixing" right now. I will post it as soon as it's ready.

Yes i want to see all the ropes, bellys and whistles! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

And indeed you are right about other ships in the seaview scene ..they could have pretty well the same rope problem.

OK, so these are not technically "invisible" or "missing" ropes? You want to ADD some NEW ratlines, ropes, etc. to the model(s)? Hopefully the tutorial will help you.

FYI - in the future, could you be a little more clear/concise in what you are asking for? You indicated there was a technical problem in your original question, when in fact you were asking for a new / add-on feature. It would have saved me A LOT of time.

maybe you should take a look at the lugger VML. that one has pulleys. it would be nice to have that on other ships.

After that when i was gone like this smily --> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" /> i finally managed to find a WAY to get this s*** working,
i connected all the possible ropes on brig1 and brig3 ..but i did not touch mizzen masts (did they had a rope too?).

*dies happy* <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
