New Topic, Old Game..

wow, you actually got it. how'd you know that? i know it was just two letters, but i didn't know you where familiar enough with ship components to guess it. originally thought it was the rope/chain running from the bowsprit to the stem, but it seems to be the shackle holding that chain according to lazarus.

as for the airship, i've managed to do a little work on it. i did the rest of the foredeck and added the other ladder. i've made the basic shape of the gondola. i've added two more sails, a pulley, and the bowsprit along with a lot of ropes attached. it looks nice, but i have no idea what it's for at the moment. maybe a ram or something.

this mighty airship is starting to look mighty wierd. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> the bowsprit is placed on the nose of the balloon. i've now put three jibs on the front, two of them being between the bowsprit and the rather short mast. these sails are both rather small. the third jib is upside down and absolutely huge, between the gondola and the bowsprit. they are mainly steering sails. jibs wouldn't be usable as general propulsion in mid-air because an airship follows the wind and hasn't the benefit of a keel as a guidance. i'll be adding a steam engine in the rear of the gondola with twin props and rudders later. should look kinda cool. i'm not sure if i'll add the altitude rudders on the rear of the balloon or the gondola though. maybe not at all. airships normally don't work like that.

dunno, could add it to PotC as a ship if i could convert it to the right format somehow. but it's EXTREMELY high-poly. like actual-threads-on-the-screws high-poly. okay, maybe not THAT bad, but i actually made the inner curves of the two pulleys, which are both nearly invisible at full view. i mainly made this model just to look cool and to see what i could come up with, not to actually use it. it was sparked from my love for the steampunk style.

hmm.... would have sworn it was stacato. anyway, i thought i'd post some screens of the work in progress. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> it's of course completely untextured, and the facets are two different colours because some of the are boundary facets. the gondola is just the basic shape, of course. i think i'll be adding more details to the bridge deck, as it seems very bare now.

needs some work, i think. seems too plain compared to the bow.

here's a better view of the awesome-looking bow which i am very proud of. it's interesting that the ship looks different from each angle. the foredeck slightly resembles an actual ship's bow. note that the topmost propelling sails are curved a little, which i might apply to the others later.
