Treachery!

The scenario: I chase Raymondo westward along the northern coast of <i>Terra Firma</i> (South America, for those not in posession of the historical references), taking a Spanish treasure fleet of three galleons and a Spanish millitary payroll sloop along the way. I engage Raymondo's ship North-Northeast of Nobre de Dios. I have the weather gage, and place two well-aimed broadsides into him from my large frigate, <i>Adventure Prize</i>. Raymondo, unable to bear up under withering fire, strikes his colours. As my vessel bears down from windward on his to board, <i>he fires a raking salvo of round shot at my ship.</i> My immediate response is to spill wind, turn abeam to the bastard, and fire broadside after broadside of grape into him until his ship lies dismasted, her decks running red. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

I know that this was a tactic employed during the Age of Fighting Sail, but I'd never encountered it in this game, nor thought the game sophisticated enough to attempt such a ploy. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

Think I've encountered him doing the same thing to me before. Maybe a quirk of Raymondo in that he really never actually surrenders (as in knacker his ship, he surrenders...get on board, then hey presto fight again). I seem to remember him 'faking' a surrender before and opening up on me again as I drew close with a mind to board. O'course it may be on higher difficulty ratings the enemy tactics is that much better. Dunno meself.

I Don't think any other ships have done this to me... I'd kill all the crew and sink 'em if they ever were so damnably bold.

hmm, when i see raymodo sailing along ill jump in the fastest ship i got (most likely my indian war canoe flagship) and just chase him down avoiding all damage:p
