WIP Steam Gunboat

I thought as much; well I have a strong feeling what it's doing is somehow using the Tartane's walk file for the crew as I certainly didn't prepare one...is that because in ships_init, I have it set so the Tartane stands in for any missing parameters?

As for the walk.gm...I've stolen Polacca's for now.

It's very liberating hearing the roar of a 32-iber on such a small ship :D

If you have refShip. All = "Tartane1", then yes.

I do indeed!

I've tried using Polacca's walk.c (renaming it Dundas_walk), and renamed the walk line in ships_init, but it still crashes. I also tried others in ships_init without renaming any files but no such luck.

Hell, I can't even steal properly :facepalm

As I said, the crashing is probably unrelated to the walk.c file; you need the patch.gm file!

Sorry that's my bad; easy mistake to make!

The only patch.gm in my POTC folder is one for Charleston Town...I know ships all have _path.gm files, and assumed this was something to do with walking but I tried swapping that too with no success.

_path.gm is the one I meant. Sorry, I'm not near my files and couldn't remember.

No worries! Though I have already tried a few of them and no luck :/ I copied Polacca's to my Dundas directory, renamed it to 'Dundas_path.gm', then put "Dundas" next to the walk line under my entry in ships_init. Did I go wrong somewhere?

There probably needs to be a locator in the main GM that tells the game the path file exists.

^ This. Same story as attaching a mast or other mesh. Simplest solution is to add a new locator in TOOL called "path" in the "geometry" group, and place it at (0,0,0).

I did have a stab at doing exactly that in Maya but to no effect, so I'll have a go in TOOL later, as you suggest. :onya That frigate1 is coming in very handy too, thanks!

I hate to keep coming back here and stressing you guys with this trivial crap, but this has me officially stumped.

I'm copying the Tartane1's entry in TOOL into Maya, and happily it worked...kind of. I then tried a straight copy in TOOL, which yielded the same result. The camera's about 200feet below the boat.

Am I putting a minus somewhere I should put a positive integer or something? :shrug

That would certainly make sense! I'll check out Frigate1 and see what that can tell me.

In Edinburgh trader I notice there's a waterline loactor called 'camera'. Could that be it?

Oh yeah, having 0,0,0 in the path locator crashes the game; I'm using co-ordinates from Maya now. :/

Bingo! Thanks Pieter, I just copied Edinburgh trader's info :)

EDIT: It's not moving, I seem to be anchored in position; ironically just above the boiler hole. It also CTD's if I'm not near an island and try changing camera. Damn this is convoluted! All I'm trying to do is steal one :D

I'll revisit the guide and Frigate1 to see if I can work out where I went wrong.

EDIT EDIT: Ok big issue. Just restarted the game following what i did earlier; nothing done in the meantime to any other files. And I'm getting this:

tttt.jpg

It seems persistant and crashes the game upon loading, as I'm guessing it has no ships to load. It's odd, as I hadn't done anything to provoke this and havn't even touched ships_init today; just been fiddling with my model. It's not my day, is it!

@Robert Nutter: How far did you get with this?
While I haven't really given your work the attention it deserves because my focus was on the release of Beta 4, I definitely want to support you in this.

As far as I can gather, you're already pretty close to having her ready for proper play in the game.
Would be great to see her potential fulfilled very soon! :cheers

Good news! I'm back from the eternal abyss of no internet, so can return to pestering everyone on here! :facepalm

About Dundas.

Once I get Beta 4 public up and running I'll reintegrate the files and see where I left off, as I completely removed my previous installation after somehow hashing up my PROGRAM directory. However, If I recall, I was running into the deck camera either crashing OR (not 'and') being anchored into place. The gun was working fine, as was the model itself; it's literally just the temporary path thing I needed to sort out for the time being (i do feel like I'm forgetting something though :8q).

EDIT: Ah yes! The mast. I had a go at splitting if off as was suggested by Armada, but it never seemed to reintegrate with the main model once in POTC. Most likely a syntax error on my part, but it'd good to get this fixed else the orbit cam will remain useless!

BRILLIANT! :cheers

I'd hope @Armada might be able to shed some light on that one....

If I could talk a computer out of crashing, I would. Failing that, I'm going to need more information. :shrug

@Robert Nutter, you'll have to go through all the steps you've used to get that path model into the game and post some screenshots along the way, otherwise I'm not sure where you've gone wrong.

I think Robert says the PotC game crashes; not the computer.
If I recall, PotC can indeed crash when the camera walk patch isn't there and you switch to deck camera in 3D Sailing Mode.
So I think that is where his issue lies.

I was referring to the game crashing, as well as PCs crashing in general. :wp

Indeed that it likely the problem, but as I'm sure you can appreciate, I currently have such limited free time that I can't try to troubleshoot the problem myself.
