I strongly believe that this is nonsense.
It's not that most are not empathetic or cold.
It just that this is how it seems from an outside perspective.
Not all people show empathy in the same way, or they can't show it. But it's not that they don't feel it.
A good example I can think of this in media is the Witcher.
There's this myth that witchers are emotionless. Which if you actually take the time know one you know that it is false.
Many "empathetic" typical people are the ones that are actually cruel.
