WIP 38 gun Frigate Révolutionnaire of 1794

I've finally made some more progress on this ship! I have finished the textures for the British, French, and American versions, so here they are!

Absolutely beautiful, mate! Can't wait to sail this frigate meself. :keith

Thanks! :doff me too to be honest xD: There is a problem with the main deck cannons, when I uncheck doublesided, this happens.

Now what I'm wondering is there any quick fix for this? any stats I can change? If not, I can find a cannon barrel that works and replace all of the main deck guns with copies of it, but I wanted to know if there is a quicker fix before I spend all that time doing it.

Strange, I didn't think that should happen to those guns. Are the triangles inside the barrel still present, but inverted?
If so, just select all of the inverted triangles and reverse the normals. Hopefully that should do the trick. ;)

Just a quick note: if you haven't done so already, make sure the vertices are merged on the cannons (and all other parts, for that matter).
Two or more vertices in the same place might not cause problems, but it will probably slow down the game's performance due to loading many more vertices than it needs to.

Yep, the triangles are still there, but the normals are inverted (they show up fine with double-sided checked, but I understand that it wont work ingame) So this means I'll have to fix this on a single gun, and then replace the others with it. (Its just alot easier that way than selecting the appropriate faces on all of them)

Merged the verticies on every part :onya

EDIT: Fixed it! turns out there was no interior barrel on that model, so I used one that looks exactly the same to my eye, but has a inner barrel :dance

Craiggo,
If you are still willing to take on the Revolutionnaire after you finish the Volage, I just finished exporting the Rev's files to gm format :keith here is a link to them on the FTP http://www.pyratesahoy.com/potc/Capt%20Armstrong/ship%20models/Frigate%20Revolutionnaire/
the textures should be the same as the Volage;

Non nation-specific textures

Boat- HMS_Surprise20
Cannons- Inzanegune1
Fittings- d_Wood
Ropes_ ropeU2 (see Armada's post in the volage thread with a link to new textures)

Nation specific textures

Great Britain
deck- dcRN.tga (new texture by armada)
masts-dcRN.tga (new texture by armada)
decoration (headrails and stern)- windowtrim
Inner hull- Phank_yellow
Outer Hull- RN_Hull_01

France

Inner hull- ph3nk_blue
Outer Hull- US_Hull1

I will be gone all of next week, and I wont be able to fix any problems with the files until after then, and I sont think i'll have internet access either, so if you could check them out for this ship and the Volage before the weekend that would be great ;) I guess if there are ongoing problems when I leave, I could post the Maya files too so Armada or someone else could try to figure out any problems with them.

All right, il get on it. It may take me some time because i am starting film school at the Art institute next Tuesday so i'll be very busy full time.

Ok! I'll upload the maya files before I go just in case ;) thats fine if it takes a little while, I just wanted to have everything set for you to start on this ship and the Volage before I go on vacation for a week, of course you have to work within your own schedule. :) Film school sounds fun! the best of luck with it. :onya

Just uploaded the maya files so any problems can be troubleshot while i'm away :onya here is a link http://www.pyratesahoy.com/potc/Capt%20Armstrong/ship%20models/Frigate%20Revolutionnaire/Maya%20files/ I should be back after next week and weekend

Hey, how do I get the files such as, deck- dcRN.tga

I don't know how to get any of the new files Armada made such as the deck and mast files.

Ooh... I just thought of something! -everyone grimaces with apprehension-

In the future, you could make your boats (just your long boats) different colors for some added remote authenticity. The cutters belonging to each vessel (my favorite long boats) were named for the color they were painted ("red cutter," "blue cutter," and "yellow cutter" were common) pretty universally in the Royal Navy. The Frigate Surprise has a pretty detailed description of the way they were usually painted, if you have that book. I must say, however, that the longboats on the white version look perfect as they are along with the ship's paint.

And another thing... I usually wouldn't suggest this so blatantly... But I was wondering weather you might be interested in doing a model of a large cutter (the ship's boat kind, not the sailing vessel) of about 20-30 feet. I'm only suggesting it because I'm taking a group of people down to San Diego Maritime next week and they have a cutter of about that size that matches Surprise. There are contemporary plans on the internet, but I could get pictures of the internal framing and benches, which is why I'm posting this. As you probably know, these universally had spars and sails that could be rigged, (the barn next to Pilgrim actually has about ten sets of them) and I think a vessel like that would make an excellent replacement for tartane or another small ingame vessel. There could be multiple, differently rigged versions, as I've seen them rigged as sloops, schooners, cutters, ketches, and luggers. You would have seen these things all over, but we have not ye put one into the game. (If anyone else is interested, just tell me before the 12th, so I can get detailed pictures.)

The tartane has already been replaced with my La Diligente. Also I've uploaded my Medway longboat. I think it's 26ft ish and is fore and aft sloop rigged. ;-)

Well, that takes care of that then. Do you have any screenshots? I'd be interested in seeing what it looks like.

A screenshot of the Medway longboat in PotBS can be seen here: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080126112431/potbs/images/8/8e/ScreenShot2.jpg

It was based on the longboat from Medway 1742, and I used it as my ship's boat in Centurion.

Sorry for hijacking the thread! :D

Hijacking it is, but it's the best kind of hijacking.

I guess I can check that one off my wish list. (unless you wanted to do a gaff ketch, and a schooner, and a lugger, and a... never mind.) I love the rigging... It's nearly perfect in every way, and of my personal favorite variety.

Thanks for the compliments! I don't mind a little bit of thread hijacking xD: So thats the medway longboat on the Centurion? I had noticed it and was considering using it on other models, though it is poly heavy in comparison to the much more primative POTC one. :urgh

Post Captain- I rather like the rigging myself too, and i think it is a near perfect fit for this ship. It was actuallly the rig of the USS Philadelphia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Philadelphia_(1799) (accounting for adjustments in mast rake and Postition to fit the hull of the Rev) but the Philly had very close dimentsions to the Revolutionnaire anyways. Its kind of neat knowing that the last time someone saw that rig was when Decatur burned the Philidelphia in Tripoli harbor :dance (see the link if you havent heard of it)

EDIT

Looking at the Maya file, I'm not sure if all the parts exported, so i redid the export right and also tweaked some UVs, here is the new file :onya
ftp://potc@pyratesahoy.com@ftp.pyratesahoy.com/Capt%20Armstrong/ship%20models/Frigate%20Revolutionnaire/Revolutionnnaire.gm

So I just thought of this while working on another ship, but would it be possible to have the stays for each mast in a seperate file from the rest of the rigging for that mast and assigned by locator? So when one mast goes by the board the stays that were attached to it from another mast don't just hang in spacewith nothing to attach to on one end?
