Amsterdam

Answering in a REALLY offhanded way why starting the game with the Amsterdam is NOT easy ?

And extrapolating it into mummies and stuff?

Then going off topic ?

Did I mention I want one ? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> Getting back to the AMSTERDAM, it can still be hard to
use her as a Startship if you don't change any other settings!
Just because you've got a good ship does not mean your a good
sailor! Remember the Titanic!!!!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

What an awful name this Spiegelretourschip! Why? By the way this name sounds very German. Somehow unusual for Dutch ship. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I gave that name to the Amsterdam ship type. Why? Because that simply is the Dutch name of the ship type that the Amsterdam is. So in short: The Amsterdam IS a Spiegelretourschip, whether you like it or not. The "Spiegel" refers to the stern like Morgan Terror says. "Retour" refers to this ship type going to the East Indies, then returning to the Netherlands. "Schip" is simply "ship" in Dutch.

Ok, you explained it to me but I think it isn´t necessary to use any irritated tone. Anyway, I respect this name especially if it is some historical name. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Sorry. I didn't mean to come accross as irritated. I just found it odd that people were saying it sounds weird and unDutch, while it actually is the normal Dutch name. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

for anyone who's interested: fluitschepen or fleut ships where called that way because of their shape. the spiegelschepen and the fluitships where the two main types of ships used by the east- and west-indies compagnies. pieter might correct me on this one, but that what i know of it.

What do I need to change if I want the Amsterdam to appear more freaquently as a buyable ship ?

Pieter, it was rather my fault that I didn´t realize that it is common name in your native language. For me it sounded a little unusualy. But I like these Dutch ships very much and in 17th century they were one of the best and most beautiful ships that ever existed. I can understand you are proud of it and that it is a little sensitive matter for you and I would be like this too if my nation would have such a great historical legacy. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

ASAIK, there is no real way to make it appear more frequently. You could make it a class 6 which appear more frequently, but there are already alot of class 6 ships that could appear.

It would not make it more common as it would just be one of many class 6 ships.

But really, changing the designation of what I believe is a class 2 ship to class 6 would be way off balance.

The game generates some battles around the players ship class making it way too easy for the player using it against smaller ships of "equal" class.

Going up against larger class 2 and 3 ships and winning would give too much experience points.
The game regards your "small" ship as outclassed and still beating the larger vessels thus the extra points.

You should be able to encounter the Amsterdam. I made sure she isn't set to CanBuy = false or CanEncounter = false.

make it as diffucult as you like to board the large ships, as long as you can handle your ship like a pro it won't help one bit at all. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> starting the pirate sinknig quest you can get at falaise the fleur at the beginning of the game can give you a pirate corvette in absolutely no time. which i did.

It seems to me even Bermuda Sloop is too good ship for starting the game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

You do realize that one is a giveaway, right?
The pirate Simon Blunden is set to run away. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Meh... I think I accomplished basically the same thing .by increasing all the values for English and portugese ships.

I was going to do Dutch then English...but I figure to encounter more Dutch ships than I ever will Portugese..Plus I rarely see any Portugese ships over Class three in a ship yard...maybe never.

I went a littlle bit overboard in the begining and ended up with 22 knot Galleons..Until I figured out a better balance .

Now when I start the game with a Yacht its like a pocket brig...And I can keep it for a while before its lack of carrying capacity gets too annoying..Capturing or buying a galleon usually solves that issue once you get a captain for it . <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I'm still having trouble keeping mine alive long enough for them to learn anything ..Gotta remember to put money aside for that silver armor...and lots of potions... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

wait, what? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> anyway, i never ever modded anything in the game to my advantage. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" /> and i did board him with my apparantly very scary lugger VML.

ledhed, what's your problem with money? i always have loads of it very early on in the game. if you have enough, buy a treasure map,(only if you have a minimum of five luck) and hey presto! you're stinkin' filthy rich! you don't really need much money for one. i once bought one for exactly 174 gold coins!

No, you didn't mod it.
It's in the code. He's set to be somewhat weak and flee from you.

Remember, this is from stock POTC and it was the "only" Gov. given pirate hunting mission in the game.

You got to do it fairly early in the game as well so I guess they made it .... nice and easy!
