I've just received my copy of AoP and boy am I sorry
that I wasted my money on this!
Reading all your posts and problems you all are having
with this game it makes my head spinn!!!
Even leaving the STARFORCE issue aside It can put you off
playing PC games for LIVE!!!
This has to be the number one piece of crapp this Year!!!
Why do we buy this? Would you buy a car without the
engine or a wheel missing? I think not!!!!
I can go on forever, so my copy goes on the shelf and I go
and read Snowhite and other kid stories!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

i find AoP to be the best game ive bought all year <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Hi, Nosie. After it will be in shops in our country I will buy it immediatelly and will be playing it. I think you shouldn´t listen to what some people write or talk about it but listen to your heart and intuition. And I think they really talk you to play this game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Game has its problems fer sure, but I enjoy play'n it, reduced number O' crashes by follow'n Rad's advice on virtual memory,an rarely get a crash now,Thanks Rad. Also Turn Sea Detail to half, barely notice diffrence in game,as fer bugs, official patch will be probly released next week as Playlogic is betta testing this moment, Modders will fix rest O' bugs. This game has much potential, O' course that jest this humble pirates opinion <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Oh, thank you Skull too, I am really glad. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Skull, ye say yer havin' less crashes now wid Rad's suggestion. Does ye git less o' dem crashes dat happen as return tew de Global Map from de Sea View after sinkin' ships in a battle? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Dem be de one's Fred Bob be havin' de most! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

But why even release the game when it needs to be patched? The game should be great when it's released, not just have the potential to be great. Seems really unfair to consumers, but that's my opinion though.

I reduced sea detail to nothing, no help, find it unplayable now.. so I'd be very curious what Rad's advice was? I didn't see it anywhere, so sorry if I missed it in an easy place to read it. =)

I think it was about increasing virtual memory to 4000 megs... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Most crashes were from switch'n from map to sea mode and sea mode to dock ship thar Fred Bob

Thanks Rad and Skull. =)

And yep, do got a question now.. how do I manually change the virtual memory? I have windows XP too. I also think my computer fits all the requirments besides a graphics card that may be a bit too weak, because I get some lag.

The lag I can live with, the crashing.. I can't, LOL.

Oh yeah.. and the swapfile. Should I try deleting that and restarting too or don't touch it since I'm not exactly sure what it is? LOL

It´s a little problem because I have my Czech version of Win XP, so I will try only translate the path.

Start -->Control Panels ---> System ---->Specify ---->Performance -----> Specify---->Virtual Memory---->Change.

And set own size for drive C initial size 4000 MB, max size 4000 MB and if you have two drives the same for drive D. Restart. Nothing difficult.

This can help about crashing computer and computer is a little faster.

I have an experinece that many problems in games are caused by sound. If in AoP is possibility of adjusting of sound quality I would set low option. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Control Panel --> System --> "Advanced" tab --> the first box ("Performance") --> "Advanced tab" --> bottom box (Change)

Should be pretty easy from there mate - hope I could help! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

[edit] Gah, you were quicker! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Nevermind, "Specify" is "Advanced" in the English version. [/edit]

Thanks. For those with US windows XP it is (or at least the vesion I have, lol):

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System -> Advanced -> (Performance) Settings -> Advanced -> (Virtual memory) Settings.

Phew.

I was set at 1500 to 3000, so hopefully it'll work now. Gonna restart and find out!

And this takes 8 G's of space? Got 111 free so should be good, LOL.

Edit.. thanks Rico, though didn't see you till after I posted, oops!

This isn´t good. The point is set the same size - from 4000 - 4000 I had read it somewhere and tried it for a long time. 8GB means 4 GB for C drive and 4 GB D drive. I tried various sizes and combination and 4000 MB was the best. But don´t set the bigger size than 4000 MB. I tried larger size but my computer stopped working. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

If ye have a constant lag problem, may be yer power supply an CPU an memory ain't cutt'n mate, which would contribute to more crashes, what are yer PC specs <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Yes, Skull is right, power supply is very important. I had 350W and it was unsufficeint for my computer. I had to buy 500W power supply. And some quality mark as Fortron or something similar. Important is using some cleansing and reparing programs for deleting internet caches, and various clutters and garbage from computer that can very slowering it if Windows is installed for some time already. I am using program System Mechanic 6. It´s very good program.

i only get slowdows in large fleet battles and in towns. lag/stutter/low framerate

i doubt its my PSU thou, its real strange because my graphic card barley breaks out in sweat.
the temps hang around the 50's when playing AoP, and go up to near 70 when playing games like FarCry wich run fine.

my system specs:
dual Xeon 2.2ghz Processors
1024mb RDRAM
XFX GeForce 6800GS 256mb Agp.
2x 80GB IDE HD's
460w PSU, with two 12v rails on 17A each.

I changed it to 4000 to 4000 and it crashed almost right away first 5 times I tried to play, well after I loaded the game. But then I got a good run of no crashing, lol.

My specs? This is from reading off the sticker on the computer, LOL.

Intel 4 Processor 540
Processor speed 3.2 GHz, 800 MHz, 1 MB L2 Cache
Intel Graphics Media Accelarator 900 (bit weak for game?)
1 GB DDR Dual Channel memory

That good, or I leave something out?

And to show my computer knowledge.. I have no idea what you mean by power supply. I just plug mine in? LOL

Thanks guys. =)

What´s unclear on power supply issue? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
