what exactly happens when I become a member of the brotherhood when talking to that Pirate Leadre at Navis?

As far I see, it just re-organizes my nation relations ... anything else, that may not been seen immediately?

As far as I know your nationality is pirate and you are hostile to everybody else with the exception of the odd shady merchant.

Ah thanks ... though I don't understand what that nation change means. Is this similar to a letter of marque with a normal nation?

Or in other words - what would be the difference between "friendly with a certain nation" and "part of that nation" ingame terms?
So far, I don't see any.

Literally ALL it does is to make you HOSTILE to all nations and FRIENDLY to the pirates.
Nothing else whatsoever. This was technically a feature from the days we didn't have a LoM mod or a False Flags mod.
It doesn't serve that much purpose, except to make pirates friendly to you.
