Beta 8 Discussion

Incredible Hat & CCC - wow guys, great work!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> Thanks tons for the speedy fixes on the dice and missing dialogs.

So Pieter - will those fixes be in the Final Build 13 then?

As for the load screens, I agree with remove it for now, revisit the idea for a later build.

H.M.M.

now back to testing.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

I have a recurring CTD to report, using the new Beta 8. Usually, after I'm done a naval battle, head to the open sea screen, 9 times out of 10, the game will crash either right away, or as soon as the "You have this many days of food/rum left" text would appear. I thought originally it was due to me saving right after the open sea screen appears (I usually do after battles, in case things go wrong). Usually, it has been CTDing right after I save.....but now it has been CTDing about 8 seconds after the save loads, just when I'd expect the food/rum text to appear. I'm no expert on beta testing and bringing up error logs, but I'm guessing it is more related to the food/rum thing, than to saving games. As well, the Age of Sail speed message always shows up, just before it CTD's...so that may be related as well. The rest of the mod is great, but it sure is annoying for me after winning sweet battles and prize ships, to lose my prizes.....This is the first build mod I've played with since Build 12.1, and this wasn't a problem then. I can't really tell you anything more than that...but I do have the saved game....

As well, it's not just after battles that this happens, but time spent in the open seas map in general. Sailing across from say Cuba to Oxbay will generally guarantee a CTD, unless I stop on every island on the way (no CTDs on land, I'm happy to say)

ok i had this also in my last install(minus the CTD) - i'd also get constant messages about being out of gunpowder in the log updater. Also that was the build where i had 'bombs' reintroduced to the game.

It turned out i made a mistake in my install(i think i missed one of the steps!) and had been using the reinitialise key 'I' far too often(accidently). SO it could have been a combination of that as well.

I simply reinstalled - checked all the steps were good, and i never saw the issues again.

If its not this then Hat will be happy <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

About loading screens, now that was a really lousy idea. Some modders don´t seem to bother at all about what problems they might cause. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dp_nogd.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ng" border="0" alt="dp_nogd.gif" />

If you'd like to try the saved game file, you're welcome to. No matter what I do, the game freezes within 5 seconds of it being loaded, and after 3 seconds of being frozen, CTD's (timed it, and tested it doing various things, about 6 times). I haven't tried going out of the screen (ie, back to the 3rd person ship view), or F1'ed or anything, but no matter whether I change the camera mode, stay in one place, move around, turn, whatever, the game freezes within 5 seconds and crashes in another 3, just as the day is about to change. I've had about 9 saves like this, where it was right after a battle and then the game crashed and about 4-5 where it was just travelling across the ocean from one island to another, but I've assumed it was some fault of mine and surely wouldn't happen again....now it's gotten to the point where there's no point in capturing ships or moving around between the islands, if I have to attempt to reload from the save I take just before I leave port, and try to do it again 20 times before I can actually get to the next island.

Download the saved game <a href="http://www7.spread-it.com/dl.php?id=11b245f91dd19efb33653279b44dd7706d4455ce" target="_blank">here</a>

Just in case it helps, I also had Beta 7 installed, when I installed Beta 8 overwriting it, didn't want to do a completely fresh install for one update.

and some more:

i thought.. well tavern brawl... but everything remained calm. i walked up to him and talked to him, and it appears he was a created house occupant, that gave the same dialogue options as randomly generated house dwellers (talk to him, get healed, threaten him to burn down the house and so on).

oh and another thing, i cant put my finger on yet: after i went into a tavern brawl, aggro all over town was a bit messed up, i.e. everything was calm, but for instance the shop owner was "ducking for cover" all the time.

ENABLE_BUILDINGSET is used to turn off the new buildings added to Oxbay island, as well as turn off the ability to build them yourself. HOWEVER, the option to build them yourself has been 'outcommented' so that even if you turn this toggle ON, it will not affect that functionality. It will only add the new buildings to Oxbay island towns.

BOMBS_PER means squat if you have USE_REAL_CANNONS set to "1". You _cannot_ buy bombs at stores with realistic cannons mod on.

LOADING_SCREENS_ONLY_FIRST_TIME should be left OFF. It has caused a little bit of goofy behavior, and will be removed for final release. You should see loading screens if that is off. If you are not, then you did not install correctly ?

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Well, that's what you get if you order a sandwich in a brothel... err.. so I've been told..

Nooo, that's no bugger but a bug (sorry, couldn't resist), also related to the .image lodingscreen attribute. But this time a new loadingscreen is the cause:

This check for the .image attribute in Loc_AI\Lai_monsters.c
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->    //cccOA1 disable monsters in tavern bedroom
    if(location.image == "Loading\" + LanguageGetLanguage() + "\Tavern_Upstairs_01.tga") return;<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->
makes sure that in the tavern bedrooms no random characters appear that might disturb your hangover. That covered also the lookalike "brothel" bedroom -until a new model AND lodingscreen for the brothelroom were added recently.

So we have to add an additional check especially for the location "QC_brothel_upstairs" to ensure that your tete-a-tete doesn't become a threesome:
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->    if(location.id == "QC_brothel_upstairs") return; // ccc Nov06 no residents in brothelbedroom<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->
Put the file on the <a href="http://swankyplace.com/potcbugs/view.php?id=285" target="_blank">bugtracker</a>

did you ever have the loading screen thing set to on? I did in my game, then changed it back but the screens i had already visited were permently not in my game anymore(it saves the info in your save game it seems?) - so basicaly it is a bit evil currently - cheers Jack <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Actualy it only messes up putting house inhabitants in certain places you wouldn't expect them....as far as i can tell, nothing worse than that?

On the brothel - i had a guy in that room also - and that was back with beta6, so not related to the NO_LOADING_SCREEN stuff. I thought he was just her pimp or 'muscle' to make sure i paid and didnt damage the merchandise? not that i know about these things of course <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

As for the shop owner cowering - if you've killed some innocent by-standers that got involved in a brawl(they sometimes get in the way or accidentaly get hit by the swing of your blade if too close to you), then normal town dwellers will be fearfull of you. Sometimes leaving a location, like walking out the shop and back will re-set their relationship to you, and othertimes it doesn't - or so it seems.

So yeah when its all going pear-shaped and you killed some innocent townies you can get this effect.

English.bat moves a lot of files in to the \ENGLISH subfolder, because that's where the game needs them with Build 13 to enable a multilingual game (you can switch between languages without having to reinstall).

Just posted this one to the bugtracker, as I was wandering around Hispaniola I found something interesting.

Exiting Santiago to the jungle, there are some buildingset houses that appear a little funny. The farms work fine, but the houses need...uh... a little something.

The english\b_house.h file needs a tweak or two, I listed details on the bugtracker.

The houses in other parts of the island do the same, for instance as you go through the jungle from Santiago and reach the village - ther are other houses there that appear and function the same.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />

Cheers,
H.M.M.

The building dialogs are currently under revision cause the new localized format has messed them up somewhat. That's why the "let your officer erect a building" feature is disabled for B13. Thought that would cover that.
I didn't know that someone built houses on the new islands that are accessible so that you can talk to them.
But I should be able to restore the dialogs by next month. Till then please ignore this additional oddity of the odd buildingset.

I don't know, it's just strange. The save will load fine, and then crash....and the game seems to do this very, very often after battles...less frequently with just normal travelling across from island to island.

On the brothel - i had a guy in that room also - and that was back with beta6, so not related to the NO_LOADING_SCREEN stuff. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Right, it is not caused by the recent NO_LOADING_SCREEN tweak but by the new "brothel_upstairs" loading screen introduced some time ago. As I said, the fix is on the bugtracker <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

well i kinda like him being there...... - lol not in a perverse way! i always imagine he comes in after you know what - just to check your behaving and encourage you to not jump out the window without paying(role play)? but if its an issue or possibly could cause a bug then the fix is good to have <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Edit: not that i hang around the brothel all day - just in case my misses reads this <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> my two lone journeys so far have all been in the name of science i swear <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
