Black Pearl and QAR Progress

and guys if you heve all textures ready(25% 50% 75% 100%)
why dont you put em all on patch for download and let people decide what textures to use??

We might finally have a winner here. This is the Pearl in-game at 63%. What do you think, BM?

I think I could live with this instead of 75%. And BM said he could live with this instead of 50%. I think we finally found a nice middle-ground that we can be happy with. What say you BM?

And what does everyone else think? Like it at 63%? Or wanna see it higher or lower? Armada and Pieter, what level do you think is best?

I know this is asking a big favour but could you do a Royal Navy version of the texture please, I've always wanted to see what she'd look like in the service of the king.

Because not everyone will understand how to choose the texture they want and apply it and it will be so much easier to have just one Pearl that you can download with no fuss.

I know this is asking a big favour but could you do a Royal Navy version of the texture please, I've always wanted to see what she'd look like in the service of the king.

I'm glad you like it. I definitely wanna do your models justice. I know you worked hard on them. And I'm trying to put an equal effort into their textures.

Royal Navy version? You mean the Wicked Wench? Yeah I was gonna give the Wicked Wench a look and see what I can touch up. Actually, since your new model uses different UV maps, I will HAVE to make a new texture for the Wench, but that won't be all that tough. I'll just copy and paste the colors from the old Wench.

Well it's really only one texture that I changed the shade of. But if you REALLY want, I could make you the 4 shades so you can choose if you want. But as far as the next patch goes, the Pearl's only gonna be released with the one shade.

Seems people are happy with 63% as am I. So I'm gonna make 63% the official texture.

They're not quite THAT torn up in the movie. I'd be a little more conservative with the holes if I were you.

I agree with Legendary Spider on the sails, maybe focuse the holes in the sails, not on the edge if you get my meaning. Very good work though
 
Could you teach me how to fix the UV mapping? Cause this is getting annoying.
Would there still be a way to put the skeletons on?
What about what you did with the Constitution? Like how the eagle and stars are on the stern separately. Are those a texture? If so, how do I put certain textures on in that way? Aside from the skeletons, I'd also love to texture these rings over the existing rings on the QAR.
I don't think teaching you to change the UV maps will help too much. It's not something you can do separately; it has to be done as part of the entire re-export process through Maya.
What I can do is modify the UVs myself to make your job easier. I can even add flat surfaces next to or within some of the 3D details, map them to an unused area of a texture, and you can use them to add 2D details.
I think that would work particularly well for the rings on the QAR. How does that sound? :shrug

I figured out an interesting way to figure out where certain textures are located . . . by scribbling over it with a red brush!

It sounds stupid, but it's really effective! lol
I know, that's what I did before I knew about UV mapping. :cheeky
A great trial and error technique I used was to cover half of the entire texture with one colour, test it, and systematically halve the size of the test sections until you've pretty much pinpointed the part you need. That solved many mysteries for me.

Armada I tried to add lights to the pearl for the aop, i created new locators, but the lights did not appear.:modding

I don't know much about AoP light locators, sorry. You'll need to ask an AoP modder.

Armada, this Pearl uses some textures from deck.tga which several other ships use, but there's a couple parts I wanna darken for the Pearl. How do I solve that problem? How can I make this another Pearl specific thing and assign it?
The only part which uses deck.tga is the helm. I was planning to move around the UVs so that the wheel can be textured very accurately, so don't worry about that for the moment.
If you want to know which textures are used on which parts, just find the textures in RESOURCE/Textures/Ships, add "_1" to the end of the one you want, and reload the model in GM Viewer.
There should now be plain light grey sections where that texture is meant to be applied. I hope that helps. :doff

Looks like 63% it is; I like the compromise you've reached there. :yes
Now you just need to modify the mast texture to match it (deckbp.tga), otherwise they look far to black in comparison.

Do you reckon you could do a bit more than just copy and paste for this texture? I was never a big fan of the Wicked Wench texture, just because the image quality was quite low.
If you could recreate it to a much higher standard, and mix the colours better, that would be a huge improvement. ;)
