Blacksmith mod

Kieron

Landlubber
Storm Modder
hey, anyone who was working on this,

i've done an interface for the blacksmith mod. i've divided the `item-dealing`-out function into two, one for traders (no weaponry at all) and one for blacksmiths (weaponry only), so in each town there will be both a blacksmith's and a shop. the blacksmith's interface lets you equip and upgrade the weapons you've got, and also buy and sell weapons, on one interface. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

i've put together a little temporary mod if anyone wants to have a look at the interface; i recommend you deinstall it after having a look at it, as it's not the 'real deal' <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> it just adds a 'temporary blacksmith' who appears in the oxbay store so that you can talk to him and access the interface.

alan, are you still working on the interior of a blacksmith's shop? and may we use your excellent blacksmith skins? if you've got the adding of characters and locations done, perhaps you could include this interface in with that? or send it to me and i can put them together <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

oh, silly me, hehe, the temporary mod is here: <a href="http://www.freewebs.com/kieron_a_m/Kieron%20-%20Blacksmith%20Interface%20-%20temporary.zip" target="_blank">Kieron - Blacksmith Interface - temporary.zip</a>

Does it still take a day for each blade's repair? And were you able to add guns to this, or it's still limited to blades?

I'm sending RobC my skins and dialog files... still working on the locations code, and the interior editing is stalled till I can work on the model itself. At best, for now, I could change the image file for a store... say, give it a dirt floor or something... but what I really want to do is remove that dumb pot from the fireplace and add swords and an anvil and stuff.

I'll give your mod a try later today. You've been VERY busy lately; it's awesome.

oh no, i didn't put the day wait thing in, i shall add that asap.

lol yeh i know i've been busy <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> i've moved to barcelona and am doing a course in catalan but that doesn't take all of my time up... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

In that case, mate, by all means please slave away at the mods. Now that I know I needn't feel bad for your workload...

Where were you before Barcalona? Elsewhere in Spain or outside the country?

i'm from manchester (second flag along in my sig <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ), but go to university in cambridge (my college flag is the one on the right) so for the last two years i've been between those two places <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> now i'm here for a year, then go back to england for my final year, and then hopefully they will give me a degree! or at least some certificate of effort.

What attracted you to the place to study? A mate of mine from here just got back from a year of gradschool near Madrid. As for me, I'll be starting gradschool in Montreal next month.

And as for your mod... it seems to be responsible for a fatal error in the PotC engine programme upon installation. I try and start the game up, and I get a very generic C runtime error message or somesuch crap. The ModHelper generates a single line referring to a nonexistant folder string... so I dunno. My computer has been giving me an awful lot of bollocks lately.

If this can be ironed out is it at all possible to work the Chandlers MOD that alan and myself are working on? because it sounds like just the thing needed for it?

your url doesen't work becouse if i click on it it opens the same topic I am replying on now.
can you change it

right click on it and select 'save target as.' i promise you the url is right <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

OK now I have it thanks <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Bugger. Even on a fresh clean new install (mostly; I added some of the recent mods, like shipberthing and icons, and the KR expansion), installing this gets me a C error when I try and start the game (it happens on the "splash" screen just after activating engine.exe).

All I did was replace existing files with your new ones... should I instead `search-and`-replace? I started out doing it that way but got tired of it.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> It's difficult to get people to actually READ the readme, Kieron! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

The first time I installed this, soon after it came out, I installed all the files then started making those changes in the readme... but they just looked like the same changes I already made by installing new files. It looks like all the same text, anyway; is it different?

yeh, basically i didn't want to do direct overwrites of some of the files, so i did them by `search-and`-replace instead, but didn't want to bother with the potc mod patcher (because that's what it is, a lot of bother <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ). if it's easier, you could send me what you've got so far and i could put them together? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

I'll try it again sometime with all the replacement text in place. I hope it doesn't make the dialog obsolete though... I wrote five full blacksmith dialogs for RobC.

if the dialogue is all about choosing which sword to upgrade and how to upgrade it, then yes, it will make it obsolete. we don't have to use the interface if you'd rather not <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> if the dialogue is all introduction and `getting-to`-`know-the`-blacksmith stuff (sort of like the dialogue you have with the shipyard owner and store owners), then it won't be obsolete.

So, I'm curious. What's the status of this mod? Is there a working, stable version out there yet? With or without shops, or new models.

The dialog is a mix of both. You meet the smith, and he appraises the condition of your equipped sword, and you have reply options based on the condition you want and how much you'd pay.
