Build 13 Released!

It has taken a lot of sweat and tears, but finally Build 13 is here! The full 368 MB download is now available from my site. Smaller versions to be installed on top of Build 12.1 and on top of the original Pre Build 13 Base version are to be released some time later, but it might take a couple of days (a week perhaps) to get those done.

Now that Build 13 is finally done, we can now turn our eyes to the future. There are several new mods that have already been done that we can assemble into a new modpack add-on for Build 13. Once we managed to fix the bugs with these new mods, we could release this pack as Build 13.1 which should add yet more improvements over Build 13, but should still be a stable release.

We will also need to think of new things to pursue for Build 14. What do we want? Several things that have been mentioned are making the officers play a bigger part in the game and making the player more involved with the goings on aboard his ship.

One less pleasant thing with this release, though, is that it illustrates that my time of actively supporting the Pirates of the Caribbean modding community is drawing to an end. I am following an education to become an officer aboard a merchant ship and I have been accepted as cadet officer with the Holland America Line cruiseship company. This means that I will be gone for 150 days starting this February. During that time I will not be able to do much for PotC. The ships do have Internet aboard, but I don't expect to be able to find much spare time for supporting PotC still. Until that time I will be rather busy with schoolwork as well, so I won't be able to be as active as I once was.

This is why it will be very important for us to figure out a way to continue without me being very supportive. Somebody will need to take up the position of modpack compiler. Whoever that person might be, I will try to support that person until I have to leave for sea. The modpack compiler will need to have some knowledge of programming and will need to put all mods people make together, but this is relatively easy using WinMerge. This person will also need access to webspace to upload the files to. Anyway: We need to figure out some ways to continue PotC modding, because I don't want to return from my 150 days of sailing only to see that everybody is gone. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

But for now it is time to celebrate and play! Major thanks to everyone who helped in making this release possible and thanks for all your support. It has been an honour to work with you all. Now enjoy Build 13! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

how many days until the version you can put over build 12.1?(approx.) i knew something like this would happen! i was waiting all the time in anticipation, and now i can wait some more. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> i should get used to these things. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> happy sailing! and don't cause a mutiny. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I'm sorry about that, but unfortunately I really don't have much time. At the latest I get these done next weekend. Perhaps earlier, but don't count on it.

well, i could always try to download the full version. it would take the entire afternoon, but it would be worth it.

Wonderful news!

Now I think its time for some much needed housecleaning of old and dated sticky posts yay!!!

I am wrapping up the old project on the bug tracker, and will ramp the next project on it. So no issues get posted into the old project, they go for future development now. Cool.

Roughly 280 issues were opened during getting build 13 wrapped up into a more complete package. Amazing we tackled most of those, huh???

WOOOOO!!!!!!!

Nice work team, and man oh man, a great salute to Pieter, the Incredible Hat, Hook and CCC for the piles of work that they somehow managed to plow through in the last week or so before release!!!!!

So I just install this one on top of all the other ones right ?

Something else to do....maybe I can board ships now !!!

You guys have so much stuff in this game I am getting lost...I'm going in four different directions at once ...I got caves ...whore houses...crazy people walking up and trying to kill me....jungles...zombies...Tons and tons of stuff....

Yeah, the 'redirector' Forum links in the PotC forum root need to have Build 13 in there! Hehe.

I downloaded it and installd it on a fresh PotC. Apart from the unwelcomed and unasked for launch of the game after installation, it worked great and seemless and appears to work! Personally I never launch a program right after the installer is finished installing it, as there are usually setting files to be messed with first!!!

But anyhoo... thats what "KILL TASK" is for <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

is it just me? but the full 13 installer points to a rather strange directory ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Build 13") and when i select my game folder, this said directory is still in the installation path, and i have to clear it out manually.
thats two problems in one... i believe windows cant use ":" in directory names, and you have to select your gamefolder for install, and not a subfolder, right?

thats just a minor inconvenience, but i thought id mention it.

oh, and the "runme.bat" asked me, if it should overwrite some files, and after it did, it gave some error messages. one of them being "directory is not empty". im not sure what to make of this, but ill see soon enough.

Are you sure you installed the latest Beta? You're not supposed to be sunk immediately with the latest Beta's. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Anyway: The final Build 13 is to be released today. I'm doing the final finishing touches right now and I'll compile and upload it afterwards. Build 13 will be available later today. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Whats up with THAT little suprise ???

ref that install issue Gedscho, i didn't pay too much attention while i installed it but it definately went into the right place or else i wouldn't have got access to the new interface in my test game i just started. So i dont know why you had that weirdness - look for build13 type stuff in your game to be sure?

i encountered another problem.
i am one of those unlucky guys that have to live with a german stock game, as i already mentioned on several occasions...i mention that again, because i think it has something to do with my problem:

i dont have any loading screens after i installed build 13 full. NONE. not even when loading a savegame.
and i believe i dont have anymore greetings sounds.

im puzzled.

could one of you guys have a look at the runme.bat.. i really dont know whats going on.

now possibly i could tinker around a bit and find out how to get my loading screens back... but... i dont know,
what i miss altogether. there are new voice files introduced i believe, and i simply cannot tell, what i dont get.
but for sure its loading screens and greeting sounds.

edit: fyi, i did a clean install of potc and slapped the full 13. build over it.

Did you run the Runme.bat file, Ged? That needs to be run to localize files. There should be versions of files for several different languages, and the english versions are initially installed by default. By running that batch file, it will copy files to a number of locations, taking into account the local version of your OS. So if you are running the german version of windows, it will detect that, and copy german localized files to the right places.

I'm assuming that might be what you need to do, but Pieter would need to confirm that.

Cap'n Drow

the runme runs on itself. only thing i might be able to do, is prevent it from running. which i didnt.
honestly, i believe, theres something fishy. and not working as intended.

oh, and if its looking for the version of windows, that would suck. because i want as much english in my game as possible.

but i believe there are a lot of files that the build mod uses from the stock game.
because transporting all the wavs and so on.. well.. that would increase download size horribly.

anyhoo... im desperately seeking help here.

when i used beta 8, i had a screen with a pirate in a grey coat and a knife between his teeth, when loading a savegame.
but no other loading screens or greeting sounds. i then ran "english.bat", which i think i was NOT supposed to run.
BUT it gave me back my loading screens and greeting sounds.

now after a fresh potc install and 13full over it, i dont have any of those things anymore. nothing, nada. zilch.

It sounds like the Runme.bat file barfed on your install.

What it does is look at your Pirates folder (not windows) for a localized version of pirates of the caribbean. It then does copies/moves of localized files into the actual folder the build looks at for all its stuff. I am not entirly sure how that thing all is SUPPOSED to work, as it always seemed fishy to me anyways why it did what it did.

This part of the bat file determines what its gonna do:
if exist RESOURCE\Sounds\voice\RUSSIAN\Dut_f_a_001.wav goto rus
if exist RESOURCE\Sounds\voice\GERMAN\Dut_f_a_001.wav goto ger
if exist RESOURCE\Sounds\voice\FRENCH\Dut_f_a_001.wav goto fre
if exist RESOURCE\Sounds\voice\SPANISH\Dut_f_a_001.wav goto spa
goto eng

If it finds the dutch wav file in a "GERMAN" directory, its gonna go and do the section called "ger" for the rest of the bat run. This then copies stuff out of all sorts of \GERMAN\ resource directories into the \ENGLISH\ directory.

If any of those fails, it goes to an error message of "An error occurred while copying the files, probably because you don't have enough space free on your hard drive. Try this again after you've freed up some space--at least 300MB or so.".

If they worked, it continues to delete a bunch of leftover junk, and them move some files from one directory to a higher up directory.

I dont get why all of this is going on, because some of it looks like its going to overwrite the NEW stuff from the build with the copies of the old stuff of the original game. I figured this should all have run BEFORE the install of the build... but what do I know.

I do notice the 'ger' section is different than the 'eng' section in the bat file. It may be the cause of the trouble. Pieter may be looking at a whole nother 4 hours of uploading to fix this issue, as well, its a doozy, huh.

I'd also like to point out that the commands in the 'ger' (and fre, and rus) are different than the 'eng' section.

This is one from the 'eng' section:
xcopy /Y RESOURCE\Textures\Loading\*.* RESOURCE\Textures\Loading\ENGLISH\*.*

This is the line from the 'ger' section:
xcopy /N RESOURCE\Textures\Loading\GERMAN\*.* RESOURCE\Textures\Loading\ENGLISH\*.*

Now... I dont know the significance of "/N" versus "/Y".

EDIT:
Oh, and yeah, including all the english would be able a 1.2gb download.
