Build 13 Released!

Hat's rants make me laugh like no other. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

And Black Bart is right, this place just wouldn't be the same without ol' Hat.

Aye, Hat!! Stick around friend. The place would definitely be too low key without you here to throw out a fix and rant about something at least once in awhile.

You are very well appreciated and desperately needed in this community sir.

Cap'n Drow

Speaking of "very well appreciated and desperately needed" that would be Pieter. Whenever I'm searching for a problem I'm having, I've noticed it's he's replys to somebody's similar question that set me right, and whenever I broke down and posted my own question he was right there with the answer, and was polite enough not to mention the fact that I had missed clearly posted instructions.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks all for lucky build 13 (I've started a new game already) and 150 days while Pieter's gone will seem longer.

I'll just be skulking back to me lurking now.

does that mean two of the best modders will be gone for a long while at the same time? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> oh well. as long as they come back to fix everything again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> and for those who are still talking to hat, he's already gone guys. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

calling us dummies IDIOTS. Not all of us got born smart and clever!
After rechecking I found 2 BuildSettings.h files!
One in the Main Dir. and the other one in the Program Dir.......WHY?????
Does it not confuse? I mean not only me, but what about the Game???
Which one do I give the chop????....But never mind, I'll find out myself!
It can't be that hard!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/slap.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":slap" border="0" alt="slap.gif" />

Nosie: Apparently the buildsettings.h file that is actually being used by the game as of Build 13 official release is the one in the root directory of the game. Should be in same place as the game executable and ini file is.

I admit: Yes that IS confusing and yes we should have made it much more clear that we moved the file. Perhaps I should have made RunMe.bat remove the file from the PROGRAM folder so that there wouldn't be two files? Or would it have been better to leave the file in the PROGRAM folder after all and to not move it into the main directory at all?

Anyway: REMOVE the BuildSettings.h file IN the PROGRAM folder. That file is not used anymore.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> Thanks Pieter, I did that and all is well!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I did a complete re-install for build13 - and only had the one Buildsettings.h file(in the new root directory) and one internalsettings.h file in the Program folder. I think people who have two buildsettings.h must have just installed build13 ontop of all the old updates/betas?

Not that it says anywhere NOT to do that <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

The PROGRAM\BuildSettings.h file is not included in Build 13, so you won't have the two of them on a clean install. You do get it when installed on top of Build 12.1 though, so that's why it should be automatically removed by RunMe.bat. Installing Build 13 on top of Build 12.1 should be 100% possible.

oh and i'd just like to say thanks to the skinning+modeling guys - some of these ships look amazing, 100% better than stock.
And then we have a few 'nearly' ok jobs, but thats ok - you got to have the rough with the smooth(and we all got to learn the ropes somewhere) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

But overall most of the ships i'm seeing really look like they belong in the period - infact they make the game belong to the period. So its some of these <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" /> for those really good, quality works that people have put into the build <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Its the best Pirate game out <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />(and can get better!)

Harrr! Morgan matey, luck is key word here, always do the Tut. with Malcolm, beat the crap out of him racking up your skill points, use minimum 3 on luck, the rest whar ye wish, walk into Oxbay an collect some usefull items <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Actually: Finding good blades at low character levels is a BUG. The fix has been made by IncredibleHat and is not in Build 13, because Build 13 was already released by then. But the fix will be in future updates, making good items much less common to low level players.

To Skull: You need to start a new game with Build 13 anyway. Just to make sure using a savegame doesn't cause any compatibility issues. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

i'll enjoy it while it lasts. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

well you always have the 'cheatmode=1' thing in the buildsettings.h file <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Or you can disable the 'rpg' style mods and get access to all items and ships from game start?

I wasn't aware that was a bug Pieter, I've always got crappy items when I don't exploit Malcolm in the tutoral and start out at say level 2,exploiting malcolm I can start out at level 5 and have enuff skill points for melee and luck and I picked up an excellent Atwood, O' course thats a new game with B13 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I have decided on a couple of things, so I thought I'd let you know.

<b>What I am NOT going to do:</b>
- I am not going to upload another Build 13 full version any time soon. It's too much trouble and the current file does work fine, apart from the RunMe.bat issues.
- I am not going to upload a file that can be installed on top of Build 12.1 either. People can either install Build 13 full or get the Pre Build 13 Base version and updates.

<b>What I AM going to do:</b>
- I am going to make an update for Build 13 that will include several fixes to bugs and that will also include the Light Caravel and Amsterdam ships. I will make this update in such a way that it can also be installed on top of Pre Build 13 Beta 9, so it will be possible to update from the Pre Build 13 pack to the latest official Build 13 version.
- I am going to compile a couple of mods not in Build 13 into a package that can be tested with Build 13.

I have decided on this to decrease the amount of work I need to do drastically, because I simply have hardly any time at all left these days. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but I think it's the best solution with the least possible work on my part.
