Build 13 RunMe.bat issues

I think it causes troubles mostly on the German version and probably on the French and Spanish versions as well.

For all I know there are the following game versions:
- European UK English version: All files in \ENGLISH subfolders. RunMe.bat works fine here.
- American English version: All files NOT in subfolders. RunMe.bat works fine here.
- German version: All files in \GERMAN subfolders. RunMe.bat doesn't work properly.
- French version: All files in \FRENCH subfolders. RunMe.bat probably doesn't work properly.
- Spanish version: All files in \SPANISH subfolders. RunMe.bat probably doesn't work properly.
- Any of the above with Build 12.1 installed: All files NOT in subfolders. RunMe.bat works properly.

Can anybody confirm that what I say above actually IS correct? So please check which game version you have and if the installion did or did not work properly.

like already mentioned:
i installed over a fresh german version, and it didnt work properly.

but please dont make me install it again, just to see, where my files are actually located, after the fresh install.
(getting rid of that effin secdrv.sys, just because it sucks all the time pisses me off)

i think they are all in german subfolder. not sure about "loading a savegame" screen and similar, though.

In a German version, the files are in the \GERMAN subfolders, I think. For Build 13 to work, they need to be moved to the \ENGLISH folder instead. Apparently that doesn't happen for some reason. Though I don't quite understand why, because the code for moving those files IS in place in RunMe.bat. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

BTW: Does anyone remember "memory.mp"? That file causes the game to hang very badly and should always be removed. How about I make RunMe.bat remove that file by default?

I've checked in my French game : the files were in the correct folders. And I don't remember having any problem with the RunMe.bat before - just forgot to run it from times to times.

However, the files don't have correct names, althought that may not be coming from Build 13 but from my dumy computer - he's doing the same thing with the recycle bin for exemple - the names have been shorted with silly ~, like 'BAMPFY~1.TX' in stead of 'Bampfyldes_Home.tga.tx' for exemple.
As a matter of fact, I like to play without the loading textures, they aren't that usefull. And the folder problem can be easely solve just by renaming the folders.

About the sounds, I'd like to listen to the english ones - or even the spanish ones if someone have them. Could somebody give them to me? By the ftp site or yousendit.com or whatever ?
A last question, as we are taklking about other version of PotC : is there a portuguese version of PotC? Because I think I had seen one once on the internet, but nobody seems to be talking about it. So does it exist?...

I vote a big yes to removing memory.mp. As a new player I had that there slowing my game down for ages!

the thing with the strange filenames happened to me too.
i was wondering...
could it be the runme.bat... how do i put this... has a switch, a flag or something, that lets it run in "FAT" rather than in "NTFS" file format?

therefore it names the files wrong, therefore the game cannot find them.

and if not.. WHY do we get those files there in the first place?

oh and btw... it created an "English_" folder for me.

ediT:
and wtf is memory.mp? where do i find it, what does it do?

File formats(as well as OS format!) are a pain in the butt! Still on XP using the uk-english version - it all seems to be ok.

and i second what is memory.mp+what does it do etc.

On my system(Athlon 2.2ghz) i've only seen a little 'lag' during the store menu scrolling sections - i think it was Jonathon who posted a fix for this?(it was due to store prices being re-adjusted every game sec!).

I would rather we fix issues like this in the game download - over taking out an origonal game file(if memmory.mp was?) just in case it serves a rarely used function?

How does the game handle on the origonal recomended specs now(with the build mod)? My other PC was just a little under for me to test out(a 566mhz PII).

That is way weird; it shouldn't do that. I never saw it happen myself. I wonder if that always happens on German versions of the game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

I would say it's not related. It seems that some programs (like the recylce bin) on my computer are shortening the names of the files when they are too long. Maybe my MS DOS thing is making something similar (it is a dos window that open when the RunMe.bat is loaded, no?...) . In all case, I have a French game so it cannot be related specificly to the German version. I know some friends that have the French game too, and who will download build 13 soon. I'll ask them if the same thing occurs to them.

Well i looked, no memory.mp on my PC anywhere, and still on my 2.2Ghz(decent enough to run Oblivion) PC i get the stutter effect in store menus scrolling sections. If i understand it the fix that was posted for the 'every second store items update' was included in the build13(full) download? or do i need to add it manualy?

Its the only bit of my game that suffers any kind of slow down or stickyness.

Ref: the updater file in the runme.bat and DOS - is it really DOS? i thought XP didnt do DOS properly anymore?

it happened when i did clean -> full 13 install...

shall i really uninstall and try again?
if yes, before i succumb to this great pita, gimme a list of all the things i have to watch out for, while doing it, so i can take notes and dont overlook anything.

would be an even greater pita, if you, after i did that, had another question, and i forgot to look out for a certain behaviour.

Looking closer, some files weren't in the correct place :

<!--quoteo(post=172761:date=Nov 20 2006, 03:56 PM:name=Pieter Boelen)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Pieter Boelen @ Nov 20 2006, 03:56 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->
Loading screens to RESOURCE\Textures\Loading\ENGLISH <u>except Loading.tga.tx, Loading_Game.tga.tx, new_game.tga.tx and progress.tga.tx</u>
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The loading.tga and the others were still with the others files. I copy them from my PotC build betas folders to the RESOURCE\Textures\Loading of the current PotC with Build 13, and now they appear in the game. So if the RunMe.bat was supposed to move them, it didn't make his work.

If you don't have memory.mp, don't worry about it. You don't want it. The fix to the stutter in the TradeBook interface was added into Build 13. There is no fix for store menu's though.

I'd like to know the following things: If you install the stock game, where are the voices and loading screens situated? And after you install Build 13 and ran RunMe.bat, where are the files now? And are the filenames messed up?

Aparently this RuMe.bat doesn´t work properly even in European English version. I installed the game regularly and after proceeding RunMe.bat, the game couldn´t be startet. So, I uninstalled everything and performed new instalation and after RuMe.bat start automatically (which it does in this full version) I cancelled it. And only after that I was able to start the game. But now I don´t know, if anything will be functioning in my game. I only start the game, so I don´t know. One thing is sure already, the icon on the screen is old a not new as should be, but iś not important. Do you have some suggestion and advices for me, Pieter? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

That is crazy. I have a European English version myself and I made sure to test the installation process on my own game before uploading the file. It worked just fine for me. Also: RunMe.bat not working should not prevent the game from running in any way. If RunMe.bat doesn't work, you might not have loading screens or voices, but it causes no gamekilling bugs whatsoever. How did you install the game? Stock PotC + Build 13? If so, make sure that the Build 13 changes did take effect and make sure that the voices and loading screens work. If they do, the installation should be good. If they don't, post here again and I'll tell you what to do. You'd need to move some files around manually then.

It looks like everything works somehow, but the adjustment of mouse sensitivity doesn´t work now. I wanted to slow down turning of my hero and looking up and down that I perform by my mouse but it doesn´t react at all and it is all the time the same if I adjust max or min mouse sensitivity in the game menu. And I chose Jack Sparrow now but he doesn´t do normal sidesteps but only move on the ground somehow to the left or right. Could I choose another person? Added from AoP? Would it work in this case? You meant this in the past as I can remember. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I don't know anything about the mouse sensitivity. Never eevr changed it myself.

The original PotC characters can't really sidestep. Only the two AoP characters actually have sidestep animations. You can choose one of these in the choose character screen.

what i did notice at the end of the RunMe.bat (of build 13) was that it said:

could not find _*.*_
file not found, cannot proceed
----------------------------------
done! all files copied

or at least something like that. that's as good as i can remember it. maybe it's of some significance.

Pieter when I chose Beatrice there are amost no texts here. Aparently because of unproceeded RunMe.bat this persons from AoP won´t be working. I better revert to Nathaniel, or Jack Sparrow. If you now how to correct it write, please. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

What the HECK? The AoP characters have nothing to do with RunMe.bat. What do you mean with "almost no texts"? What texts do you mean? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
