Build 13 RunMe.bat issues

Apparently RunMe.bat is not doing what it should on every version of the game. What it should do is to move all files to the right subfolders (\ENGLISH) for all versions for the game, except for the Russian version. It should also remove a bunch of superfluous files. But it appears it doesn't actually do all that properly, so we'll need to rewrite it so that it does work properly.

We need to figure out why the current version doesn't do what it should and especially how to make a version that DOES do it right.

What it's supposed to do:
Move the loading screens, voices and worldmap loading screens to the required folders. If you play Build 13 in English, the following moves should be made:

Loading screens to RESOURCE\Textures\Loading\ENGLISH except Loading.tga.tx, Loading_Game.tga.tx, new_game.tga.tx and progress.tga.tx
Voices to RESOURCE\Sounds\VOICE\ENGLISH
Worldmap reload screens to RESOURCE\Textures\WorldMap\reload\ENGLISH

The files should be moved there whether they are currently in no language subfolder or if they are in a GERMAN, FRENCH or SPANISH subfolder.

Also the RunMe.bat should remove a whole bunch of files to avoid confusion with double files.

shall i quote some things i wrote in the release thread?
about the files with the strange names, the dual english folder, and the missing save game loadscreen?
or aint it necessary? or do you want to move some posts over here?

well unlike Gedscho, i didnt run anything other than the build13(full) installer - so the runme.bat on automatic, no english.bat as i had gotten used to - and well everything seems to be ok:

1. All voice nationalities in random background conversations - check
2. All sound levels playing as should be(walking/footsteps/spot effects) - check
3. All loading screens when entering locations - check
4. All music files play as normal in the right locations - check
5. Hireable officer voices when hireing - check
6. NPC's conversations(like traders etc) - check

Seems ok for me on the uk version(euro?) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Is this just an issue if you have a non-english localised verison?

My version is an english one. The installer seemed to work and the bat file too. Only thing was, I think I hit 'space' too many times during the bat file, that it registered those in the installer and thus ended the installer with the action to launch the game. Thus why I didnt see that option at all, but rather saw the launch of the game.

Few possible suggestions for the "runme.bat":

• Don't label it "RunMe.bat" if its going to be LEFT in the root POTC directory. Some people are going to see that and run it again (is that harmful?).

• Dont have any user interactivity with the bat file, as its part of the installation and doesn't need the user clicking any key to continue with that stuff.

• Have it 'move' the old buildsettings file if it exists (if someone is installing on an older 12.1 install or betas), labeling it "BuildSettings-OLD.h" into the potc directory.

• Have it 'open' the BuildSettings.h file at the end, so people are presented with their options to change ?

One other suggestion is, doesn't the installer have the ability to do all these things the bat file is doing? Just curious if it can or not, as you may be able to have the installer do these if thats possible.

it helped me, when it wasnt/isnt working right for me. i could stop it and move the files manually.

But see... there shouldnt have been a "not working right". It should just "DO" what it should and be done <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Hmm, I uninstalled the game, reinstalled, and ran the build 13 exe. Everything seems to be working fine. Except that I noticed the buildsettings.h file was moved from the Program folder to the root directory of the game. Reenabled cheats, brothel, etc with no worries (so far)...

That would be ideal, but unfortunately the program I used to make the installer file is a free version with not very much options. Would anyone know a program that enables more options?

What software are you using for this?

Oh and ref the whole install issue: On my version of PotC(Ubisoft 'Exclusive' label/Focus multimedia/Bethesda+Disney/Akella. Part No:moddingss519) which i'm guessing is the uk release as i bought it here. The build13 installer puts it in "E:programfiles\Bethesda Softworks\Pirates of the Caribbean" as default. Which is correct on my pc.

At the end of the runme.bat it says: "Could not find E:programfiles\Bethesda Softworks\Pirates of the Caribbean\PROGRAM\Dialogs\*.h The directory is not empty" but it seems to play ok.

if any of that helps?

I assume that was supposed to delete the now unneeded unlocalized ("American") dialogtext .h files, which are in the \dialogs\ rootfolder in the US version of PotC.
If you have the Euro version you don't have any .h files in \dialogs\ , yours were always in the \dialogs\English subfolder . So it's allright that runme.bat "Could not find" those.

Small wonder that it is difficult to make a batch file that works for all those versions.

I read somewhere that the "Ubisoft" branded version of the game is actually a bootleg, unofficial version. However the game itself is still the same code, it just was illegally sold (or still is?).

Oh yeah, it should work fine. Same game stuff (english version). They may just have added some bull type promo video instead of the disney one or something. Bart would have to comment on that.

wow - serious? i'm shocked! erm no i dont think it does anything different ref promo stuff. just two disks with the regular game movie thing(as in the single disk xbox version).

<a href="http://www.ubi.com/UK/Games/Info.aspx?pId=595" target="_blank">http://www.ubi.com/UK/Games/Info.aspx?pId=595</a>

hmm its not a ubisoft exclusive title there....

<a href="http://www.mobygames.com/game/pirates-of-the-caribbean/cover-art" target="_blank">http://www.mobygames.com/game/pirates-of-t...bbean/cover-art</a>

scroll down a bit its the one with the blue ubisoft exclusive graphic in the lower left corner of the cover - uk version. It doesnt look like a bootleg to me - but i hear their pretty sophisticated these days.

<a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pirates-of-the-Caribbean-PC/dp/B0009X78OE/sr=1-8/qid=1164148206/ref=sr_1_8/203-2576850-9491161?ie=UTF8&s=videogames" target="_blank">http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pirates-of-the-Car...mp;s=videogames</a>

thats the version i got of Amazon.

I sure hope it isn't a bootleg - i survived 20 years of gaming trying to avoid buying illegal software.
Well there was one time when i bought my first floppy disk drive(for my atari800), it was second hand and came with a shed load of cracked games by a 'rob northen'.
I was young and foolish and didn't think much of it at the time, especialy as this was a 'suped up' floppy drive and all those games loaded at about 10times the speed of a regular 1050 flopy - AND i had about 15 games per disk, all on some nifty super-load menu. Bare in mind i had only been using a tape deck to load in games untill that point. waiting 15mins-30mins was normal practice.

Anyway i digress - after that one 'moment' of pirate supporting(well kind of - it was all second hand and the software was a 'freebie' the seller threw in!) - i've been holier than thou ever since. I've loved gaming since forever - and dont want it to end, so i support it with my hard earned cash whenever i can. man i'd be bummed if this is a bootleg version - heck i love PotC i want a real copy!(the xbox non-moddable version doesnt count <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> )

Ubisoft is FAIK the official publisher for Europe. They sell their stuff openly in regular stores in several countries.

CCC speaks the truth. Black Bart, you may rest in peace now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Loading games with a tape deck.. Good Lord! Let me guess, the one before that you entered in the information with clay tablets? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Anyway, I don't feel quite so old now; my first PC was a Commodore 64 (although I did have an Atari 2600 and Intellivision before that)...

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> well actualy before i got the tape-deck i had to type every program in by hand to play the game!!!(they were not massive - a few hundred lines at most, still on the ZX81's 'touch' sensitive keyboard - it felt like a few thousand!!)

I was very jelous of my mate who had the Atari2600 - at least his games were in colour and had sound, and you just plugged in to play, it was a great system <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

And being in my 30's isn't so old is it? (wheres the oldman smilies?) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Oh by the way thanks all for the info - i'm glad i got a legit version after all.

{back on topic}
So what versions of the game are having problems with the runme.bat? From my experience the uk version works fine, puts it all where my PotC install is etc?

Downloaded and installed Build13 yesterday, RunBat worked fine on my English US version <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

i can't install it becuase of some unknown problem. i downloaded it, and when the download was about to jump to a 100%, it siad that there was to little space, while there was plenty left! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
