I pirated the game and was pretty glad I had cause i didn't care for it, too much was lacking as far as realism and such. but before I uninstalled it, I checked for mods, and found this one, and now I'm hooked.

so really, I've only been playing this game a week or so now.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Even so we're Pirates, you should never admit to pirating a game or anything else !!!!
That could get you into trouble!!!!!!!!
Having said that, join the club of hooked POTC Pirates!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

bah let them come and do something about it =P I wouldn't pay money for this game, not without the mod anyways >.> people can argue the morality of it till the cows come home, I don't care. still I suppose yer giving me sound advice <.< I'd just really like to see them do something about it.

so anyways Morgan is there a quest or something for the pirate corvette?

yes. the easiest of the two can be gotten at the governor of falaise de fleur. the other one can be gotten in the nigel blythe quest.

i do agree with yer bit of honest pirating though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> however, i also agree with nosie that a modern-day pirate should keep his mouth shut about his exploits!

yes, that would probably be the best reply to any situation here. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

okies the boarding bug is really starting to piss me off >.> four times in a @*$!%& row is enough to make any player twitch it's like why do I go through an hour of sailing just to have to restart when the next deck doesn't load or the captain is already dead and it's telling me my name is hamlet >.<

*five times in a row now >.>

nopers fraid it's happened 8 times today. Just now starting the nigel quests, I've never actually completed any of them I just always kinda ignored him and when he ran off just let him go >.> so new fun for me =)

I also started a new character. This is on teh most difficult settings, I want to make it as realistic as possible because I want to see how long I'll last as a pirate before I die. I surmise I shall be doing a very large ammount of running and will probabally sail as much as possible in direct sail to maintain crew morale as I'll only be able to take a ship on the most ideal of circumstances. anyways, I expect this character to last a day, might go ahead and do the nigel quests while at it.

well, it's actually quite managable. i managed to finish the game as a pirate. as was wise enough to wait until i had a manowar though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> the problem is that you're pretty much forced to play for a long while until you become a pirate, as you only have lengthy options for increasing your notiority, by which you may very well have a manowar.

aye but for the sake of realism I'm using the highest difficulty setting, swashbuckler and I'm only using a bermuda sloop wich was the mainstay of piracy in the caribbean.

remember, Black Beard only captured a couple dozon ships in his entire career, and most of that he had a 40 gun ship. that he captured using two sloops. and at the time of capture it didn't have 40 guns <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> speaking of wich, the ship that killed him, was a sloop, and it iddn't even have a single cannon on it.

then Black bart, he had 4 ships, one of htem being a french warship that had 38 guns. and being the most successful western pirate, he captured 400 or so ships and only died cause his crew got themselves drunk wich was pretty damn stupid of him to permit at his location.

Jack Rackham, the guy famous for having the skull and cross sabres and for having two female pirates, Anne Bonney and Mary Read, used a sloop, like most pirates, with 4 lb long guns on it. wasn't very many either. he and his crew were drunk too when they were captured, but they would have escaped had the advancing ship with it's last shot before they would have been out of range took out their main jib boom with a cannon ball, wich took out his main sail, wich was as effective as being demasted.

so, point is, for this lil expiriment, I need a sloop, and never engage the navy unless I have just an amazing opportunity, and I need to use speed and maneuverablity to my advantage instead of firepower. and i need to use a lot of common sense in choosing my targets.

like I said, I'll prolly last a day, remember the expiriment ends if I die. >.>

edit: -sigh- my direct sail isn't working it's activated but it won't load to a new island area, I'll go strait through my island destination and it'll still be recording my distance from the island i just left and not load the other island =/

well, it certainly sounds like a very interesting experiment. you MIGHT even pull it off, although i can tell you already that you will occasionally encounter a massive fleet that could result in you being defeated in a single broadside, you fleeing (which could be your best bet) or you fighting for at least an hour and a half. which i did myself once when i fought a manowar, a battleship and an escalated battleship with my pirate corvette. my worst case, and probably the worst case actually possible, was when i encountered 7 manowars and 5 battleships when i had a pirate corvette. it was hell i tell you, and it took me a full 3 hours, but i won.

yeah running is the best attribute of the bermuda sloop faster than almost any other ship in the game and very maneuverable and can cut extremily close to the wind, this ship will be cruising at near top speed at an angle so sharp to the wind that any square rigger will be left foundering in her wake.

means ya gotta be very careful with what ya attack, my first score that i'm about to do is a xebec and a brig gonna attack from the front just come right along side before hoisting my colours, board capture and then rush to the other one and do the same, if something goes wrong in the mean time I can sail strait past teh second ship and it'll have to turn all the way around before it can give chase, meaning I'll be long gone.

edit: well I captured the xebec teh brig I accidentallyh sank and almost sank myself in the process cause it turned slightly just as I was commin in from the front and our bows hit each other and man hull goes down fast at hardest difficulty, only a couple seconds of that and the ship sank fortunately mine, while severely damaged is intact, so now gotta sell the xebec and most of that will likely go to repairing my boat >.>

well that experiment didn't last long <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> even with lvl 9 in melee I just got killed while boarding a ship of equal class. the xebec had surrendered so I guess I was just lucky with that one but the other, my sailors were cut through like nothing. I died very fast but enemy sailors were taking several hits before they died wich sucks though cause it means that it just made enemies stronger vs making things more realisitic as far as that went I wanted them to hit as hard as they do at that difficulty level but still have the same hp so that basically whoever got hte first blow or two in would be the winner regardless if it was me or npc.

so anyways, that ended that experiment >.>

another edit: and here's the irony, with the difficulty level still set to where it is, I just boarded and captured a lvl 3 ship, I wanted to try another technique involving using grenades to clear the deck, but these guys surrendered, and well I did pick a ship that seemed to be low on crew >.> gonna play with ithis difficulty level for a while, experiment is still over as the idea was to see how llong i could go without dying once, but I wanna see what kind of tactics I can figure out. was hoping that the difficulty settings just affected more the damage that an enemy could do to ya, so that then sword fights became very quick, short and deadly like they really were and I could utilse things like flanking my enemies by circling around where the bulk were attacking my crew with my officers and attacking from behind etc etc but alas, this game is after all stats based, only while sailing does any kind of real time strategy come into play that could be compared to tactics actually used in this era >.>

I would suggest just buying the game legally. It's not expensive anymore at all. I bought it for € 15 a long time ago and it's probably cheaper now. I think they sell it for € 5 in the Netherlands now.

I recall hearing that the highest difficulty level is just about unplayable. I wish you luck with it! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
And be sure to enable Realistic Sailing mode while you're at it! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Are you sure you are sailing in the right direction with DirectSail? You know how the mod works, right? You have to sail in the compass direction that is closest to the direction of the island you are sailing to AS SEEN FROM THE ISLAND YOU ARE COMING FROM! Not as seen from your own ship. Also: Does this problem occur for all islands you try to sail to or just some?

ah. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> THAT would explain my mishap! i always thought it was oriented on your ship!

buy it legally when I can get it for free?? ARRRRRRRRR you serious?

I didn't know that's how the mod worked, thanks that will probabally solve the problem for me then thanks.

and I ALWAYS sail with realistic sailing. it wouldn't be fun it if I wasn't. it puts so much depth into it as far as maneuvering and timing and the weather gage. I absolutely love the realistic sailing in this mod =D kudos with that
