Build 14 Alpha 6 Bug Summary

Have played the 14 alpha 6 for many hours on two different computers I feel like I want to compile a list of the bugs I have found for someone to beging to address.

While the game seems stable, there are some annoying problems.

The boarding bugs:

1. No weapons chest on boarded ships -- while this is true nearly all of the time they sometimes show up on a few vessels but they are always empty.

2. Empty chests after visiting cabin and/or using weapons chests. But oddly, they come back sometimes after you visit your cabin r use the weapons chest on repeat visits.

3. You can't loot the body of the captains who fight you after surrendering their vessel.

4. Getting stuck on the ships that you board. This is happening with much greater regularity the longer I play after about 190 days of game time I now get stuck about 65% of the time.

The phantom ships that show up. For only around QC sometimes on the compass as blue sometimes, not at all.

Those are all of the game play bugs I have found so far. I also want to point out that this buiild contains many new features. I especially like the new items that bump skill points. I wish I could find a couple more to bump melee. Also the AOP towns are great.

Back on the bugs, is anyone corrdinating fixing any of these. Is anyone aware of bug fixing going on. I know we all relied on Pieter for that but Ithought Pirate KK was going to take over the build, but he doesn't seem to be around much in this forum.

I warned that I don't have much time and I can do something only during weekends. Now I'm trying to fix problem with chests/weaponlocker and some minor issues I found. I could use that time to write posts on forum instead, but I'm not sure if that's better. However if community insists...

jason, you said that the chest bug sometimes dissapears again. check if the bug dissapears when you loot the chests in the crew's quarters after you entered your cabin some days before. i've heard that it sometimes fixes the bug. but i'm not sure at all.

i knew it was a good idea to see if it was stable. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> pieter said that it wasn't. or more likely to not to be stable.

Well it is hard to pin down. But I think if it is not random, it has something to do with going into your cabin and/or using your weapons chest. It doesn't happen every time but sometimes it apprars to act <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> like a toggle.

so it sometimes doesn't occur after you entered your cabin? (NOTE: it isn't when you open your weapons locker or ship chest, it's when you enter your cabin!)
 
After a long fight I've stuck in Captains Cabin. I found out this was caused by not executing SetEndingStats(); before LAi_EnableReload();. I'll try to fix that next week.

However, maybe it's already fixed by Maximus - I'll merge fixes he sent me and check that.

I think you really need to find some new modders and fixers. I think there's only Pirate_KK who doesn't have much time, Maximus who hasn't got a good internet connection at the moment and CouchcaptainCharles. I personally really am not in a position to do much at all, so don't count on anything from this direction. If nobody else starts helping the bugfixing process, you'll all just need to wait for a long time until they're resolved, I'm afraid. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
 
Nobody needs to wait for someone else to fix or make a mod. Everybody can learn modding and do the necessary work himself, the necessary tutorials are all available.
We so called "modders" weren't born with the knowledge either.

I'm starting to do some bugfixing by myself.

At this time I've a Buiild14A6Plus without the major bug report here: Boarding stuck.

But I've a huge bug even with Build14A5 and Build14A6 many time I've CTD when leave navigation map for enter in the see. Anybody have the same bugs? I notice that the CTD occur after a call to the SeaLogin().

I played for a long time with Build14A4 and never seen a bug like this.

Make a WinMerge comparision between Alpha 4 and 5. It should show you all code differences, which should supposedly also include the cause of your problem.

My Install of 14/6 workes just fine, except for those bugs in some sidequests!
I'm just about to sail from the Lighthouse to the Greenfort fort. Did not have any
crashes nor gamestopping bugs. So contrary to some beliefs, that one is stable!!!!!!!
I have all the Mods and updates starting with 12.1. I can send up to 10mb by Email, if any body wants
one. I've got a site at filefront, but due to the slow upload, I have not had a go at bigger files. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />
 
I agree with Nosie - 14/6 is stable in that I have had no crashes to desktop.
The main bug for me is the empty weapons lockers on boarded ships (on my own ship I have no problem) and empty chests in taverns you have visited more than once.
Regarding the "stuck on boarding" bug - as I have mentioned before - to me that actually adds more interest to the game in having to be selective as to which ships you choose to board and those you should just plain sink.

To Giuliootto - your post suggests that you have corrected the "stuck on boarding" issue - is that so ?
If you have can you share the mod for others?
 
Ahoy Gentlemen.

I have started playing B14A6 and chosen this version as the Build version I want to play from a to z.
Been waiting for this gem, have I.

I am very very impressed with all your work Gentlemen. POTC B14A6 is a marvellous game, no more, no less! I find B14A6 to be very stable and easily playable and I am thrilled to have found an 'age of sail' game modded to this magnitude.

Observations:

A)

@Sir TrippleC - Sir CoutchCaptain! Your Directsail mod is simply stunning. It beats the crap out of using the worldmap IMHO. I am using your IslandCell navigation method as the true navigation method simply seems to prone to 'behind island' drop offs and when dropping off on the right side of the island it is quite to close for my liking. The IslandCell method certainly has the right feel, thank you for this gem! Also thank you for the 'damage while blocking' mod, I really like it even though it quickly becomes to easy when your own skill approves. I guess the mod that Pieter is working on could sort of remedy that.

I do however have one 100% consistant DirectSail CTD in B14A6 when going north from Redmond to Cuba. Just after the 'Land Ho' screen the 'on deck' view is shown in a short glimpse (or not at all) then engine.exe error and CTD.

I have created a bug tracker note in the relevant bug ticket and attached the log files there. I hope it is easily solved.

B)

@Sir Maximus - Sir Maximus! Your subtle new way of handling looting is really cool and feels much better than the old version IMHO. I like it that bodies don't obstruct walking and are left in place while still being perfectly lootable. Very fine work indded!

The mutiny code is still not working I think in B14A6 as I get a 100% consistent CTD when mutiny occurs. The mutiny 'selection' screen is shown (still without the background picture though just as in 14A4 and 14A5). I then choose the 'I'm still the Captain ...' button and I immediately get engine.exe error and then CTD.

I have created a new bug entry in the bug tracker as the old mutiny bug ticket is set to 'resolved' and I have attached the log files.

C)

@Sir Pirate_kk - Sir kk! Thnak you immensely for the free walk on ship mod! It is very cool and intuitive to sail into harbour, strike all sails, then go to the cabin and collect what items and money you want to take ashore, then go to the cargo hull and replenish your gun ammo if carrying a piece ashore, then go to the crew quarters and order whom to stay and whom to go with you, then finally go to the deck and over the side to your dinghy and get shuttled into the harbour proper. Really really cool stuff, Sir kk. In my view this baby really adds to the whole sailing feel of the game.

Also thank you for taking over the mod compiling after Pieter, an ungraitful task indeed, adding even more respect and praise to your choise, thank you!

I have a small bug in B14A6 when going ashore from the 'free walk on deck' deck view. When standing at the correct spot on the deck side waiting to be taken ashore the log text in the upper left corner will display the last place (port, shore, fort etc.) that you visited using the shore shuttle from the 'free walk on deck' deck view. A small bug indeed. It has a very small sidekick also. You see after being taken ashore to the port you are in, say Oxbay, then if you press space to talk to some character while still close to the peer start sport then you will be teleported, not back to ship, but back to the last port you visited, say Redmond.
Minor stuff for sure and in no way taking the pleasure out of all your stunning work. (NOTE: I am using the small B14A6 FastTravelOnShip.zip patch that you have attached in your bug tracker ticket).

Finally I can confirm the 'non lootable enemy captains and empty chests on his deck' bug in B14A6. I can however not confirm the general 'empty chest' bug. I do have the very occational empty chest, but I reckon that is just part of the whole luck factor.

In attached the code that should solve Boarding problem (and maybe empty chest).
I didn't really made a fix but just take from Build14A4 and Build14A5 parts of code that are involving Boarding and chest.


Just copy these files on top of build14A6 + build14A6additional, no new game is required.
