And PIRATES! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p2" border="0" alt="pirate3.gif" />

And that's what i am here ..Pirate, cheater and a little bit modder. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

Or people who had troubles or people who simply wanted to tell the modders what a good job they did. Or what a bad job. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

In the current Alpha 8 WIP, you'll be able to select your starting ships in the Advanced Options menu instead. I would like to see some changes being made though so that you can simply select ANY starting ship in an advanced version of the Choose Character menu. My thought would be to have a simple Choose Character interface where beginning players can choose from several pre-defined player profiles (with nationality, ship, model, etc. all pre-selected) as well as an advanced version where the player can choose anything he/she likes.

aye, can't forget pirates now can we?

I just finished watching POTC curse of the black pearl, I hate how they kill off barbosa... I hope they make a pirates 4..

I think they will... Because, comon, you really can go a great movie by getting Will as the new capitan of the Flying Dutchman.. lol and also to make money, ofcourse XD Btw, where can we report bugs for alpha8 wip 1 ? even if it isn't a stable version, we have to know where are the bugs first to fix them after no?

Actually they are making a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, a trilogy in fact, but Will Turner and Elizabeth will not be in them. It's all about Jack Sparrow, although Barbossa will be in the next one, at least.

"<i>Some of the brainstorming going around involves some Jules Verne type of scenarios involving some pretty big flying machines, a man who wants to rule more than just the ocean, a encounter with the most famous and dangerous pirate of all, a race to get to a lost world (Hint Hint) and Jack and his crew going to where no pirate has gone before (No, it's not space but Disney had made animated movie about this place before with Michel J Fox voicing one of the characters).</i>"

AGH! That is the reason why we decided to start writing our own Pirates of the Caribbean 4 script <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10925&hl=" target="_blank">here</a>. Jules Verne flying machines? Atlantis? They must be moronic idiots if they are seriously considering that. Those are the worst ideas I have EVER heard for a pirate movie! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />
I SO hope that that rumour is 100% false. Really I'd rather have NO PotC 4 than one as stupid as that. On the other hand: I WOULD like a PotC 4 and even PotC 5 if they go in a direction that ISN'T stupid.

As for Alpha 8 WIP 1 bugs: You can post them here if you like. But there is a big chance that all the bugs you report would be replaced with completely different nonsense in the next Alpha version. Really the Alpha 8 WIP 1 I consider to be such that it should only be used by modders to get an idea of what we're working on, but not as a base for anything stable. You can play it if you like, post bugs here as you encounter them, but there's a big chance that things will be completely different in the next game version. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

It's not really a rumor, unfortunately. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Those are ideas currently being tossed around by the team/writers for the next movie(s), so some may or may not be used. I hope they don't use science fiction, though; that's just hugely out of place. Who knows, maybe they can pull it off. All I want is a better Pirates than At World's End. Horrible. Horrible movie. In my opinion, at least.

What do you mean "it's not a rumour"? As far as I know, it's not confirmed by any official source.
If they ARE tossing those ideas about and they ARE going to make a film like that, it appears we'll be needing a new definition of "horrible movie". I found At World's End to be enjoyable, but it could've been <i>sooo</i> much better. But if they are going the Atlantis/Jules Verne route, the film cannot be good. If the main things in the story are just plain stupid, one cannot make a good movie out of it. The story in the first place must be good.

Well, "stupid" seems to be a major problem among the POTC movies. It was clearly written as fantasy for children, which takes much out of it if you are over the age of 10.

I would like to see a lot more film-making along the lines of "Master and Commander" ... i.e. about as close to realistic as Hollywood ever gets.

On that note ... I would rather see the most fantasy/anachronistic elements of the build mod be suppressed as much as possible. The extensive use of "luck" is one thing, but the skeleton pirates and such are generally too much. (The main quest-line temple, maybe... but not in any random encounters.) Playing up the idea that sailors are a superstitious lot is one thing, but it would be easy to get the same kind of "stupid".

As for the PotC films: The first one was really good. The second and third both went in a much more fantastical, over-the-top and dramatical direction. For any PotC 4, I would hope it would be much more realistic with the fantasy elements toned down again to a level equal to or below that of the first PotC film. Like I said before: We are currently working on actually writing a PotC 4 fan script that could hopefully eventually be a viable alternative to the stupid ideas presented in the rumours. Our ideas are of a prequel to CotBP that explains some of the story gaps in PotC 2 and PotC 3, but is, for the most part, rooted in reality. It should become a just plain fun pirate film. Also I have some thoughts on a sequel to AWE involving the rise of the United States and some pretty big ship-to-ship battles. Not much supernatural though. Just a little bit. I'd like there to be a sort of arc of the supernatural in the films. At the beginning of the first film, there appears to be none, then in AWE the supernatural elements reach their peak in weirdness and over-the-top-ness and after AWE, the supernatural gradually disappears from the film(s) again.

I would also very much like to see more sailing adventures films, be they pirate movies or realistic historical movies. I very much like Master and Commander and the Hornblower movies. I would really like to see some more of that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

As for our modpack: I don't want to remove all the supernatural elements, but I do think they should be limited to the (film) quests and certain locations (Maltese Knight Abbey) for the most part. Perhaps we should completely turn off the skeletons and mummies in random encounters and only have the skeletons in the CotBP quest and the mummies on Khael Roa. That way there would be no supernatural elements, except for when the player actively goes looking for them. But they'd be easy to avoid for those who don't want them.

That would probably be optimum ... one ghost ship quest, and one haunted abbey, are likely enough. If another quest of that type is added, that's fine ... but random Halloween refugees seem a bit much.

Of course, I'm a big fan of realism, or at least the perception of realism, as a way of producing game balance. I say "perception of realism", again in reference to things like luck and healing potions ... they sound logical enough, even if they are not. Some people do seem to be lucky, and some medical concoctions seem to have amazing and unexpected effects. So there is a perception that these things could be real, or at least accepted.

Why? It doesn't have ANYTHING to do with pirates, does it? Or are you jesting? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

meanwhile, they might be already working on their own script. maybe we should give them what we have with all our idea included?

How are we going to convince them at all if don't have something properly impressive and finished to show them? They're not going to start work on the film for a while I am sure. And the screenwriters in Hollywood have been having a strike. Not sure if they're still going on, but it happened in the past and it lasted half a year back then. Hardly any new scripts for six months. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Agreed with you. I don't like the fantastical/fantasy elements in POTC. That's why I prefer Potc 1 (and for me Potc 3 is the WORST <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> )

Okay, I have an actual suggestion. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

How about a small mod (that one can turn on and off in buildsettings.h, of course) that let's me known one of two things, or both. At the very least, I'd like some indicator for who is an enemy or not when I board an enemy ship. I have no idea who is who! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I'm also assuming that the higher the crew, the more soldiers you'll have or face in a boarding. How about an indicator, as well, to the crew status of an enemy ship? I'd rather much have the former, though. I'm the kind of guy who is going over from Age of Pirates to POTC with the Build Mod, and while the interface in Age of Pirates is more accessible, this mod makes POTC so amazing that I can't stop thinking about it every time I play the other. I'd love to have some of the interface features that makes AOP so accessible as an option in your mod.

that's indeed needed, although setting your boarder crew models as "marine" works as well. you need to start a new game for it to work. look for the setting in the buildsettings.h file in the main PotC directory. how do you suggest you should know who's who?
