Build 14 Alpha 8

Please continue the off-topic heated debate <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=12091" target="_blank">here</a>. And please keep things civil and respectful, please.
I hope you can get this sorted. We don't want any real animosity here, if possible. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I seem to have forgot to set the "SchoonerAm1_18" to US-only. You can do it yourself by finding her in ships_init.c and changing this:<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->    //Nation

Unfortunately renaming ship folders makes for complicated installation, especially when we start renaming stock game ships. After all, we have to make sure that after installation, you don't end up with now-useless folders, because that is <i>also</i> complicated. But it can all be done. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Having tried the Bartolo......er, the portuguese quest, and the standard quest (using Interceptor) there seem to be far more ctd's on the standard quest. And the cargo hold was pretty much empty (starvation was fast approaching <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> ).

I got the error log, and to me it seems terrifyingly long. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

Those are the two major types... even within the Pirate-themed media, did Pirates of the Caribbean decide to send Jack Sparrow against the Spanish Navy? No, they put him against the Royal Navy.
I have yet to see an internationally famous Age of Sail saga of novels like Hornblower or Aubrey that focuses on an American or Spaniard. I have yet to see a Hollywood blockbuster or TV miniseries starring an American naval officer.

This is the truth. It is truth because it is fact. It is fact because it is history.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Comparatively the United States does not have as a rich naval history as the Royal Navy. Now i am in the fortunate position here of being objective, as i am neither American, British, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese or French for that matter.
But as it was said before, the United States never had a major navy in the age of sail that could compare to the european powers, and only few ships larger than frigates in the 19th century.
The British empire on the other hand, was forged by its navy, without it there would have been no empire to speak of. And naturally Britain were victorious for the most part or else the commonwealth would not have the influence it does today.
And unlike Britain the United States never sought to establish a world empire.(at least not back then).

So... an island nation depending on the sea, a long rich history as a major naval power spanning centuries, massive naval battles and victories such as Trafalgar and the battle of the Nile with massive 1st rate 100+ gun warships, ultimatley crippling both the spanish and french navies.
Is it then really so strange that so much literature and entertainment has been inspired by it?

wow I love the historical debates xD

okies, yes the americans DID have amazing frigates, but not till the 1790s. and there were only a few of them so they should be a rare spawn if they are ever put in, which I think they should. Aside from a few corvettes and such sailing about, the rest of american's ships should be merchant ships and sloops and such.

as far as morale, when ya get a bunch of young men fighting for some romantic cause, their morale is always much higher. it's very similar to how pirates sailing on account, have a higher morale than say regular sailors sailing with regular pay.

with that all said, the americans WERE british, at this time. (and therefore share the same maritime history as the british, their history and our history will forever be intertwined up to 1776) Paul Revere never said "the british were comming" because he saw himself as british.

despite americans having a few super frigates, most british ships were far superior, not only in fire power but in trained crew. these things could be implimented if ya have an american story like john paul jones they can play or something and his skill sets could have a bonus to whatever skill it is that boosts morale, probabally leadership or something. and the biritish story could easily have bonuses to sailing and gunnery and so on and so forth to represent the better trained sailors.

also, the bermuda sloops of the british privateers, were in my opinion the best ships of the era. capable of out sailing pretty much anything, they constantly confounded and dominated the american navy. there be a lot of records of american captains writing letters expressing how much the bermuda sloops really pissed em off.

oh and pieter here's that error log ya wanted.

did as I was told, Infidel, however i was working with 14 7 already, being a long time fan of your build mod. I just downloaded the full version, unpacked it in the potc folder and ran the runme.dat

okies, when I run the runme.bat coz I just reinstalled it again >_> vast majority of files are copied but there is a sizable number of files that say "the system cannot find the specified file" >.<

hi!

i can't board a ship. there are nomore enemies on the first deck but i can't go to the second.

and i've found a bug on the beginning of the standart storyline, when i want to train with malcolm the game stops.

I completely uninstalled the game. then reinstalled, installed build 13, then installed build 14 8 and I'm still getting black screens with almost all of these guys.

what am I doing wrong?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> I'm back!

... I'm installing this whole thing right away! What a fine surprise!

Hey Maximus! Nice seeing you again!
Please install Build 14 Alpha 8 again as per the instructions. Those files you refer to are not supposed to be there at all. You really do have to remove the PROGRAM folder prior to installation to prevent files from being there when they're not supposed to.

Can anyone confirm Sinner's problem?

I haven't got the slightest clue what's going on, Mr. Llama. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Hi ,
A couple of problems here.

[attachment=1973:seadogs2_0001.jpg]
Port au Prince has wierd texture or lack of it.I can probably fix this one..

But not this one..
[attachment=1974:seadogs2_0002.jpg]

Is this down to my installation or are other people getting the same?
