Build 14 Problem...get kicked out everytime I switch to the NavMap

Chriso87

Hello Pirates <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I got some "little" problem with the storyline (doesnt matter which one)

For example:

The portugise dude:

You have to go to the french island (dont know the name) deliever some sandal an get some silk then return to the buccaneer guy.

Exit the port, switch to NavMap and game crushes and returns to windows.

Any solutions? Would be VERY fine <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Thanks

Chriso

No idea about the crash but you can try using direct sailing.

Look at the map and head towards the island in 3D mode. Speed up time to 30 times normall and you will get there ^^

Maybe i got an idea. In that quest´s you are sailing a fast barque with a cargohold of 1200 cwt if i remember right.
Is the cargohold fully loaded, 1200/1200? I had the same problem some time ago, when i fully load the cargohold, game crashes.
So, try to load 1180/1200 and it should work, if that´s the problem.

I played that quest with Build 14 Alpha 9 and it worked fine for me.
There used to be a CTD at midnight bug if you had a full cargo hold, as Jesus of Bonaire mentions, but that should've been fixed in Alpha 9.
And <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=9234" target="_blank">enabling error logging</a> is never a bad idea; maybe that'd give us a clue as to what's wrong.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I have this problem in the main quest every time I go to the world map.

Jesus posted the instructions for installing build 13 final

Installation instructions (build 13 final):
1) Follow the installation procedures in the installer file
2) Let the installer run the RunMe.bat file and follow it's instructions
3) <b>Open PROGRAM\Worldmap\worldmap.c and set MAPSPEED to 1.0</b>
4) Change the game's settings in BuildSettings.h
5) Change the game's controls to your liking
6) Start a new game and ENJOY!

I missed a step which might cause this problem. I haven't had time to reinstall and try again, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" /> but I think this might make a difference.

It shouldnt. I mean you delete the entire program foulder before you install build 14. So that file goes away to. Same for patch 2 ^^

Besides i dont remember doing that in build 13 and i didnt crash the main quest :s

As for Jason he is using build 13 Final and I don't think the midnight cargo bug is fix, look where you download the build 13 Final they should be a file somewhere for the fix.

As for Chris87 I don't know that bug should be fix. If you can Chris try to give us the error log that will help us a lot.

Cheers, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Forget the log O posted beforce...just some sound problem...

Here is the smaller log <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

That's the system log. Open the engine.ini file in the game folder and modify those like this;

<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->tracefilesoff = 0

[script]
debuginfo = 1
codefiles = 0
runtimelog = 1<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->
Then start the game and try it again, once it crash look again in the game folder you will see a file named error.log that the one we need to look at.

Also Chris look <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&showtopic=12809&view=findpost&p=307383" target="_blank"><b><u>here</u></b></a> and make sure you followed the installation proprely. You got some folders to delete and some runme.bat file to run as well. Maybe you forgot to do something. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Hi,

followed the instructions, deleted the folders and runned the runme.bat (after build13, after build14 and after the patch)

Attached you´ll find the error.log. I think the indicators for my problem is at the end of the file!

Cheers

P.S. Thanks for the great support!!! Great modders and great support !!!

Now it´s working, i didnt do anything...strange but awesam <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Other Question:

Blaze Story, I was on Turks Island, what now? I was in the townhall hand talked to Boelen. I think I pushed the Enter-Button to quick. No idea what to do know <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Talk to the various people in the townhall.

MAPSPEED apparently can cause some worldmap crashes, but it should be set to 1.0 is Build 14 Alpha 9 by default, so forgetting that step for Build 13 shouldn't really matter. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Try Sir Christopher Mings. Of course that quest is VERY much unfinished. There's basically just the beginning. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I have what I believe is the same problem. Immediately upon entering the WorldMap I get the status report (food, morale, etc.), but about the time I'd expect the next one to occur I am instead booted to the desktop with a close approximation of the following message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error
Engine.exe
Abnormal Program Termination
stack overflow

I've reinstalled several times, but have ended up with the same results. I have, to the best of my knowledge, followed the installation instructions to a "T".

I've enabled error logging, but no error.log is created when this error occurs. In fact, any previously existing error.log is deleted when this error occurs.

At any rate, I've traced my particular problem, and possibly that of the Chriso87, to line 170 of worldmap_events.c:

UpdateAllItemTraders(false);

It appears that the first call works fine, subsequent calls do not.

Ultimately, the problem appears to be the while loop from lines 2497 to 2514 of items_utilite.c, but I haven't been able to figure out exactly what is going wrong here because I haven't yet figured out how to dump variables.

Everything runs fine for me if I either a)comment out the call to UpdateAllItemTraders(false) or, b)change it to UpdateAllItemTraders(2). The second option seems more innocuous. On the other hand, I'm not seeing the big picture here, so there's no telling what unintended consequences I'm introducing either way.

Anyway...

Thanks to everyone here at Pirates Ahoy!. You've taken a game that I wanted to love from the moment I saw it on the shelf, but never really could, into a classic. The gamma and difficulty sliders alone are worth the download, and I'm on dial-up. When you throw in everything else you've accomplished, it is a monumental metamorphosis and I am very much grateful for, and appreciative of, your efforts. Thank you.

Interesting, thanks for the info.

You can dump a variable using the following line:

Trace("function name: variable = " + variable);

To add more:

Trace("function name: variable1 = " + variable1 + ", variable2 = " + variable2);

"Function name" is there to help you know where it came from. The information appears in your compile.log file. Hope this helps.
