Calling a halt to the ModPack so we can update the Build

In my game the MOW_gub still can´t be bought anywhere. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Take a look into shipsinit and make sure it´s both encounerable and buyable, i.e.

refship.canencounter = true
refship.canbuy = true

Normally, a ship can be bought if it can be encountered, but you´d want to make sure. As well, the MoW Gub in the menu displays just as a "normal" MoW, so you might be able to buy it, but don´t see that it´s the MoW gub.

I know that Grimm. Even Nathan had my files ship.c and ship_init.c and probably didn´t discover anthing which could prevent appearing MOW_gub in the game. If you are playing B12.1 + Modpack, are you able to buy in your curent game the MOW_gub - the black and violet one, or as somebody says dark black and dark blue one with white angel on the bow anywhere ? This information would very interested me. If yes, it would mean something wrong is in my current game <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Are you trying to buy the MOW_gub in an old savegame? If so, you will need to press "I" to have the changes in the ship.c and ship_init.c files take effect in your game. Hope that helps you...

To Cat:
These are the mods I believe to work quite stable:
- Added skins (maybe it should be checked if they actually are buyable from their proper nations)
- Most new items will also work fine (only the fists weapon is likely to still be improved soon)
- Blacksmith mod must work quite allright by now. Maybe it would be nice if also guns could be fixed soon...
- Apothecary and opium den must also work quite fine
- Added War Galleon
- Bugfixes/Small improvements
- Stormy Start (except for the bug with the item traders keeping the default tutorial stock; you said that was OK one day later, didn't you Cat?)
- Special Weapons Assemply Kit (except for the "stunned" dialog not limiting the "steal" option when there's nothing to steal; tried to fix that, no luck)
- Captain's Challenge probably also works almost OK. Only thing I would like to see changed is that the weapons used by your boarding crew are returned to the weapon's locker (could that be done by putting them in a different locker than the weapon's locker during boarding and then after boarding be put back into the weapon's locker?). And maybe a toggle to whether the boarding should be crews on their own deck (new version) or crews in instant fight (stock version).
- Disarming Mod DOESN'T work properly AT ALL yet! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />
- Other modifications should also work fine enough

I suppose that should be it.

re. steal from stunned: you mean if you "steal" from someone who has nothing you get nothing, right. Hmm, I could make a check if the victim has a blade or money if you want. OTOH as it is now you knock someone down and (so to say) search him for plunder, and, well, sometimes there is nothing. IMHO that's sort of realistic.

re. weapons locker: maybe(!) I can make a procedure that returns the weapons. As for pairing the boarders in instant duels, I thought they would do that if you set BOARDERMODEL to "". Will check that.

On a second thought, though, maybe we should rather not touch the things that work stable now until the update is released. Otherwise there may never be an end to it. (Even though your suggestions are certainly good. We still can add some improvements AFTER the next update)

My "stunned" dialog option is that if there's nothing to steal, the steal option won't be available. Sure enough, it doesn't really matter if you can use that option while there's nothing to steal, but I find it a bit weird. Plus you get the rep decrease every time you search the same person. I was wanting to put a check on there, just like I did with the potions. If you don't have a potion, you can't use the rep increase option; same way: If there's nothing to steal, you can't use the steal option. But never mind; it's not really important.

As for the weapon's locker: If you can enable a third locker in your cabin and have the weapon's be put in there after the boarding and then, once the boarding is fully done, move all weapons from locker 3 back into the weapon's locker. I suppose that is possible, but I don't know. I'd really appreciate this being so though, because if you have to keep filling the weapon's locker after every boarding, eventually you'll get really annoyed. BTW: In what order are the weapons assigned to the boarders? Best ones first or first ones added first?

Don't know if setting BOARDERMODEL to "" `re-enables` instant duels, because I haven't tested it yet, truth be told. Hadn't thought of that option to set it back to default. Thought that would only set the models to default, not the rest.
Have you checked the bug yet in which I set BOARDERMODEL to "corsair" and only "corsair1"s were generated?

<!--`QuoteBegin-Pieter` Boelen+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Pieter Boelen)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->These are the mods I believe to work quite stable:[/quote]RE skins: I tested mine. Anyone else test or check theirs?

Fists weapon to be improved; that is fine, that can be handled in an update. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Yes, I did say that about the default stock - it does change.

We probably shouldn't put the CC or the disarm in if they're still being tweaked, unless everyone is of the opinion that it will be all right as it is (as we did with the single blacksmith, for instance).

Otherwise, to me it looks good too. If they are ready to go, we can put them up on the CVS - are they *everything* that's in the package already, or are there things that need to be taken out/islolated?

Wouldn´t be better to spare the next number for some more substantial changes? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I would recommend only putting in things that do not require a restart, and leave the restart for build 13.

I believe the only thing that requires a restart is the number of pistols, thus I'd suggest making one of the pistols not quality'd (i.e. add only the normal, average, item define). That will take 5 over, leaving us _just_ under limit.

I don't recall anything else needing a restart, though I'll need to add a healthy section to reinit.c to handle the upgrading.

Ummm, okay. I need a restart for my Animist quest fix, because I gave a character on the beach at QC a different dialog. I was going to write an entry into the reinit.c file but it seemed to do the wrong thing; it generated a SECOND character of the same walking around on the QC beach. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> So I guess I did it wrong. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> If there's a way to fix that, I just wasn't sure how to do it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I've added "Cat_animist_fix.exe" to the FTP so it can be included. Finally got the quest check to work! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

There's more that requires a restart: Alan Smithee's new locations (suppose the game will work without restarting, but you won't be able to visit them)
Disarming should be completely removed then, because the changes I made to the original code caused all items to disappear when pressing "I" in an older savegame.

If you're leaving everything out that requires a restart, I don't think there'll be much left really. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />

BTW: Nathan Kell has some more `up-to`-date modfiles from me, but I have some files in which I made even more changes. Can't be many, but still. Suppose I ought to send these to him so they might be implemented. I suppose you don't need me for making the update; don't have the time. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

If I could remark something to this. I played PoTC many times already with Builds but maybe only two times to the end because of constant necessity of restarting the game. And this situation lasts about than one and half year already. I think people and me too would like to play this game to the end and not to start it anew and anew in its half because of some constant little changes. IMHO you could really omitted all matters for now what demands to play the game anew and let them into the Build 13, in which will be included some more essential changes, improvements and extentions. I left the playing of PoTC in the past exactly for that reason because I had to play it again and again from the beginning and nothing apparently improving happened in many cases here. So, Pieter you are looking at it from the standpoind of the modder but I think you all do it for people, for players, for fun and entertainment or maybe am I wrong? When you will put some smaller improvements into the game in the close future with some other substantial improvements or extentions it will be better and more appropriate for the most common players, I think. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I'm not saying you should start new games all the time; I'm just saying that for the most mods that are added lately, starting a new game is required. So if you don't want to start a new game, many mods won't be in it either.

LOL, suppose HE never really worked.

I haven't really got much feedback on the latest version of CC, probably due to the fact that it isn't published anywhere (can't do that myself, just can't get to the FTP <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> ) So we'd better leave that out.

Pieter <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> I mailed you a new stunned dialog.

What do you need published ? You can send it to me and I'll put it up, I don't seem to have any trouble accessing the ftp.

Pieter: Sure, send them over and I'll merge them in.
(And on the subject of the Wonders of WinMerge, may I further quote Mr. Wilde, "on the slavery of the machine, the future of the world depends." Contrasted with the slavery of humans as he does, it's a more favorable quote than one might first suspect.)

I think the problem with the disarm changes and pressing I was due to the mismatched size of the guns array; I didn't notice, when I went through your changes (and everyone else's), anything else that would necessitate a restart.

In terms of restarting--locations can be added midgame fine now, because we no longer depend on position in the array for `island-sensing`. I'll need to write a function like FindBlankCharSlot() though, to make it easy.

Did someone say we were over the limit for locations, though, at some point? That's the one other problem.
Plus we have only ~30 charslots left, so we do need a restart _soon_; it just needn't be in a build _update_.

To be fair, we should probably release a `pre-13` at about the same time, so people can get a "head start" on starting a new game, if they desire that route...

I think the character thingy was the assigning of portraits, right? And it seems now those can be expanded nigh ad infinitum by just adding new entries with higher numbers; I've been on a series of portraits numbered 200+. What do you mean there's only about 30 character slots left?

I start new games constantly, it doesn't bother me; the most fun part of the game is starting out, especially with CCC's randomly generated start. So I've only beaten the game twice in the year or more I've had it. (The biggest reason I hafta start anew, incidentally, isn't new mods but the game crashing too often... Its unofficial name is Pirates of the Crashes to Desktop, though on occasion it gets me some blue screen of death requiring a HD sector dump or something `fatal-sounding` like that.)
