Ahoy Andrewas, welcome aboard mate!

As stated in our forum rules, we are an international forum, however we do prefer posts to be made in English. You can always use Google Translate.

Ah! That is what he said.

Crashes with large ships only and with the latest version? That sounds like a hardware problem. Computer specs please?

Ya, those specs are on the low side. Maybe you could add more ram.

In POTC--->engine.ini you could try setting it to 16 bit color. Set screen BPP to the values for 16 bit shown and then save.

When you board, do you loot corpses and chests?

This was a regular problem with Beta 3 - if you looted, the game would often crash. I thought it had been fixed in Beta 3.2 but apparently not - if I loot corpses and chests, the game is liable to crash, whereas if I ignore them it is more reliable. Even after looting, the game doesn't crash as often as Beta 3 did, but it does still sometimes happen.

Try boarding that large ship, ignore corpses and chests, and just storm through it as quickly as possible. (If you've taken damage during the fight on a deck, you can wait until your health has regenerated before moving onto the next - just don't touch any chests or corpses while you're waiting.)

You still get crashes when looting? That used to happen so often I avoided sea battles completely, but it has become reliable for me when looting for a year or more. But then I don't take on anything bigger than pinnaces.

Yes, occasionally I still get crashes, and when it happens it does so consistently.

I usually save game on the worldmap just before dropping out to sailing mode to initiate a battle. So I had a saved game just before jumping onto a Portuguese scratch patrol. I boarded the first ship, won the battle of the first deck, looted a couple of corpses, the game crashed. I reloaded the game, boarded the first ship (the exact contents of the opposition fleet change each time), won the battle of the first deck, looted a couple of corpses, the game crashed. Several attempts later, I reloaded the game, boarded the first ship, resisted the temptation to loot everything in sight, and got away with it. Incidentally, exchanging equipment with companion officers (e.g. topping up their ammo or giving them medication so they can survive the fight on the next deck) could also trigger the crash.

But the next battle I was able to loot everything without crashing. And I'd been looting in every battle before then. So it still happens, just not as often as in Beta 3. And I know I'm supposed to quit every hour or two to cut down on memory leaks. Try doing that when you're up against three "Spanish" war galleons even if the wind is co-operating. xD

Taking anything smaller than a pinnace has been difficult because the only hostile ships I've been able to see are Portuguese, and their ships are mostly "Spanish" war galleons with some others - some smaller down to and including heavy brig, some larger up to and including 3rd rate battleship. (Next time I take one of those I'm keeping it rather than selling it. Then I can go and raid somebody's fort. :D) Oddly, now that I'm higher level I'm beginning to see easier prey such as "escorted merchants" - I'd have loved to find one of those when I was less than level 10, rather than now I'm approaching level 20!

Hmm. I am beefed up enough to start taking on the bigger ships now, so should see what happens.

I experienced the same thing about opponent strength.

At first "merchants with light escort" meant one light fleut and six advanced warships, battleships, and heavy pinnace of wars.

Then it became a pinnace, a gaff schooner, and a heavy pinnace of war. Those were tuff battles with lots of heavily damaged ships afterwards.

Now it is some fleuts and pinnaces with a Heavy Brig.

They're not quite the same - as well as the inevitable "Spanish" war galleons, there are often some other ship types. But yes, the new encounter system is seriously messed up, and not just because of the lack of pirates on the worldmap...

There's a variable in "InternalSettings.h", START_DIFF_SHIPCAP, which according to the comment "Takes player's level and ship class into account when generating ship encounters" if it is set to 1. I have it set to 0, so my level and ship type should not affect ship encounters, and if it did, I'd expect to run into harder fleets as I increase in level. It's the other way round - having almost reached level 20, I'm now finding easier fleets such as merchant groups.

There are lots of different fleets out there, but I don't go after battle fleets with a fleut.

Is this on the WorldMap only or during DirectSail as well? Because the DirectSail code definitely has NOT been touched since Beta 3.1.
Levis' changes to the worldmap might have influenced the encounters there, but I'm not sure of that....

I don't have many encounters on DirectSail. On the way from one port to another on WorldMap I look for something to attack. With the battle over I return to WorldMap and head for the destination port, there to exit to DirectSail close to the port, Sail To the port, and sell off all the loot and prize ships. One easily noticable difference is that I have occasionally seen pirates in DirectSail. They've never shown up in WorldMap in Beta 3.2.

@ Andrewas
A way to avoid the most of the boarding crashes is not to choose option 4 in options, looting corpses. "...blah blah .. and not ostruct walking": don't take this one, take option 3 instead for example.
After the battle on the first deck of the ubiquitous "Spanish" war galleon, and for that matter any of the other larger ships, the deck is pretty well covered with dead enemy crew and often one or two of mine as well. If corpses do obstruct walking, I'm going to have a more serious problem than not being able to loot them! Besides, it's not just looting corpses which causes crashes. Anything involving transferring of items - looting chests and exchanging items with my officers - can trigger them as well. The main difference is that crashes don't happen very often in Beta 3.2, compared to being regular in Beta 3. (I never tried Beta 3.1.)

changing from 32 bit to 16 bit solved my problem

in the same time different variations with looting doesnt change anything

anyway, I want to say "thanks a lot" to everybody who responded to my request)
Thank you guys)
