Crashing, dissapearing: guide me through please

Right. It seems to be crashing whenever I try to get to the sea view in order to enter a port.

How do I find out my computer's hardware/graphics card etc.?

(I found the music <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> )

Right-clicking on "My Computer" would help. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

there's of course also several music packs on pieter's site, which greatly improve gameplay experience.

I see 448mb of ram, XP home sp2. But I can't see any info on the graphics card.

Ah. Thanks Petros! I couldn't check on my Dutch Windows Vista version. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Cheers, Petros. I never would have found that on my own.

OK, so I have a:

ATI Radeon xpress 200m Series

- Downloading drivers now. Dead proud, I am. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Good luck! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

It said I needed .NET Framework 2.0 - so I downloaded and installed that.

I tried to install the drivers and it comes up with this:

<img src="http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h197/funky_monkey_8_/ati.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

I went on <a href="http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html" target="_blank">this </a>site. Selected xp home > Radeon > Integrated/Motherboard > Radeon xpress 200m

I downloaded the file in the link but it doesn't seem to be working, hence above. Any ideas?

That's when installing the new drivers? I wished I knew more about that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

By the looks of it, you HAVE an ATI Radeon xpress 200m Series in your laptop and you downloaded the Radeon xpress 200m driver program from the official website and it can't find an appropriate driver? That does sound rather weird. I think in many cases when installing Windows on a computer, Windows will try and find appropriate drivers for all the hardware itself if no drivers are being installed along with Windows. Perhaps Windows chose to install the Radeon xpress 200m driver, but in reality you have a different graphics card, which would explain why the real Radeon xpress 200m driver program can't find a compatible driver for you. In which case you should check your laptop's documentation to see what's REALLY in there. I'm just shooting in the dark here. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

I wish I could be of more help.
First stop should be to check with the manufacturer of your computer.

Second would be the manufacturer of your motherboard.

I forgot, are we talking about a laptop, right?
Then chances are you'll never get it to work.

But the game DOES run. It just crashes occasionally/frequently. That gives me some more hope than in most cases. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

By going nuts, of course. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Can anyone recommend a cheap piratey game that <b>will</b> work?

cheap but good <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Hi, it's me again <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I've installed this game on another computer and it seems to be working <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I've just been in a storm and it all looks lovely; very realistic.

One question: The F1 and F2 keys aren't working. When I go into the change controls bit they aren't highlighted and cannot be changed.

Any ideas?

ta,

paul.

Not working at all? Try resetting the controls to default in the Options menu. That might work.
Did you install any of the mods, or are you just trying the original game now?

I'm using the build mod you gave me a link to (12.1?). That computer doesn't have an internet connection so I used a data stick majigger to get it over. I'll try resetting the controls.

They don't work in-game; but at the start in the options they are accessible, but are gray.

Will report back later, cheers.

Urgh, it hasn't worked. The F1 and F2 keys are still inaccessible. It seems that when I fix one problem; another one pops up.

It's like a teenager; brilliant but unruly.

Oh spam.
