Ah the very little movie/ride "`tie-in`", while visually clever, was a bit labored... `Sigma-6` is just saying that, basically, a ship that good oughtn't to be named corvette, but rather "light frigate."

Also, nitpick mode, I think you're confusing culverines and carronades (it's the latter which were named after Carron, Scotland).

EDIT: Heh, never saw second page, thus the last bit was already raised.
Culverines were IIRC what later became known as "long" guns, i.e. `better-made`, heavier, `longer-barreled` cannons leading to greater range.

I dont see why not ...

but aint it a huge job if we should name all ships after there nation name ?
