frigate Rotter Love (or whatever the name is ^^)

lilith

Landlubber
First, i'm French so sorry for my bad english.
Second, hi, i'm new.
Third, the frigate Rotter Love.
I have just begun today so she is still incomplete (a lot ^^).I'm planning on using more polys than the stock PoTC models (10x more), so the ship will have more details.Obviously, with that much poly, the game may slowdown, but i don't think it will be much noticeable (except with 20 ships on screen).But only time will tell if i didn't use too much polys.

<a href="http://img440.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rott016qw.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/1259/rott016qw.th.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /></a>
<a href="http://img312.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rott021dk.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img312.imageshack.us/img312/2605/rott021dk.th.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /></a>

Comments welcome.

PS : originally, i was planning to redo the stock frigate (to made a better model than the ugly game's one), but as i didn't find any plans of frigate that look like the same as the game's one, i simply made the first ship whose i find plan.

Hello there and Welcome <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

That's a nice project you are beginning, new ships are always welcome, especially because they are often betters than the stock game ones. Seeing your first screens i would say that your ship is closer to a galleon than to a frigate, but, as you said, you didn't find plans for a frigate. (Maybe someone could find a plan for you over there? a beautiful frigate would be something great) But more than all, i hope you'll finish this ship whatever the appearance he will take, keep up the good work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

( Ps : Ton anglais est pas si mal que ca, sans doute meilleur que le mien <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> )

I don't know if it will help you but here are a few documents

The first one his used to build a reproduction of the frigate "l'Hermione" with the plans and the technic means of the 17e century

<img src="http://flfa.free.fr/hermio5.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

The second one is a <u>Pirates of the Burning Sea</u> render :

<img src="http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/6604/64gun344ha.png" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

I hope it will help you <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->that your ship is closer to a galleon than to a frigate<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't really know, on the plan it's written Fregatte "Roter Löwe" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> .

Some new screens.
Nothing much has changed, but i don't like to make post for nothing so 2 littles screens <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> .
<a href="http://img516.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rott039ah.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/8990/rott039ah.th.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /></a>

Ps : thanks for the screens <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" /> .

^^ whatever it'll be i think it'll be fine, that's fine work for a first day <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Maybe this information will clarify. The "Rotor Lowe", was built in the Netherlands in 1597. It was a "frigate" developed from a smaller Galleon. It must be remember the term "Frigate" has basically a non-specific and changing etymology, with the only thing constant being "Speed" of the vessel. The "Rotor Lowe" was a versatile 18 gun scouting vessel. She was generally pressed into service by the Dutch to carry cargo. However, she was originally built to engage the warships of Philip of Spain.

Keep up the good work, as mentioned before new ships are always welcome. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Welcome te PA Lilith,look'n good <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> she'd be a sharp look'n ship,particularly with a Pirate flag fly'n from her mast <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Here are plans, and as we can see your model is already close to the original <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->your model is already close to the original<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I hope so considering i use those same plans ^^.

Some new screens(nothing much changed):

<a href="http://img127.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rott056rb.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/8901/rott056rb.th.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /></a>

I was sure you couldn't have missed it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Little changes but nice work, especially on the rudder

Thanks, i was searching for the name of that piece ^^.

I've made the cannon, the same that appear on the plan.It was hard to figure out how the cannon look, and i find the cannon strange (very strange).

Screeny, screeny, little screeny :
<a href="http://img66.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rott075pi.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/5408/rott075pi.th.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /></a>
<a href="http://img66.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rott081kw.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/29/rott081kw.th.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /></a>

Hmmm the rear is quite uncommon, but share as that detail, it looks normal, maybe cannons was made like that on the Rotter Lowe time any expert in the cannons history over there? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

Yes, the rear is quite strange, but, it may be my fault, i may have screw up the cannon.

Screeny (not a lot of changes, but now the ship has cannons ^^(2 rear et 16 laterals)):
<a href="http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rott092ag.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/9574/rott092ag.th.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /></a>

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there and welcome aboard Lilith.

You've got a very nice looking ship coming along there. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to spotting that ship through me glass soon, aye.

Cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

WOW, that is really fast AND very beautifull modding work!!!! If you release your ship, i am certainly that I use that ship. good modding mate, we need better ships in PotC!!

She looks very nice indeed. I hope you'll manage to finish her. So far, we have seen several ship models being started, but none being released. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
She's a beautiful ship. I will greatly look forward to sailing her. Especially with a green VOC colour scheme. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

BTW: Make sure you don't give her too much detail. Somebody recently said he made a model for PotC with such a high detail, that the model refused to work in PotC, which would be a shame. Also: Make sure you can get her converted properly. There's no point in making a very good model only to discover that the conversion process refuses to work. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Make sure you don't give her too much detail<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Well, that bad, considering that i'm planning to add lot of details.But, in the worst case, i will tweak the ship(i find easier to delete poly than to add).

Stock frifate hull+cannon : 3000~ polys
Rotor löwe hull(minus cannon) : 3000~ polys (for now ^^)
the 18 cannons : 34000~ polys
I will redo the cannon, 'cause that too, but too much polys only for the cannon.

Ps : no screeny, 'cause i just wake up ^^.

Welcome to the forum, Lilith <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Could that be a breechloading cannon? Those had seperate chambers for charge and ball, which could be precharged. The chamber would be pushed into the open rear of the barrel and locked by means of levers or wedges. Compared to the usual muzzleloaders breechloaders could be loaded much faster and easier, but they didn't become standard before the mid 19th century cause it was difficult to seal the chamber with the tighness necessary to contain all powdergases.
