Solved Game won't play. (Different issues)

I have the PoTC game disks, installed the game, and it works fine. (running windows 7/ 64)

I downloaded build 14 3 full and the installer, put both in a folder on desktop, and installed the game in my documents/my games.
When I click the installer and install to the My Games folder where the game is installed, it installs there fine, but when I looked in the folder, most of the files have a locked icon on them.

I changed folder permissions to make sure I had full control, but that didn't change anything.
When I try to launch the game, the New Horizons launcher comes up with Storm Engine 2 at the top left to load everything before launching the game, but it doesn't do anything......it just sits there.
I rebooted and tried again, but to the same result. It just sits there, and the game never launches.

I ran a search on the forum before posting, I didn't see this issue listed.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

On a side note, I have downloaded the Build 14 Beta 3 from around 4 of the mirrors, and every single one has had thousands (yes thousands) of errors when I extract files to a folder.
The latest one I am unpacking now (mirror 3) has 15,939 errors so far and it's not even finished yet.

Another note: I unpacked the Beta 3 full and did a drag and drop overwrite in the game folder to see if that works.....if not, I'll try the installer again after that. Will update.

Update: I tried overwriting dragging and dropping the unpacked Beta 3 full into the game folder and launching the game after, and the same issue remains.
The launcher comes up, and just sits there. The game never even tries to start.
(I am running as admin, and have tried compatibility mode for windows 7 and windows XP)
 
Another update.....after installing everything, the problem of not launching continued. I looked at the Engine.ini.....and it's blank. There is no text in it.
I replaced it with the stock Engine.ini from the stock PoTC I have saved on an external drive (to speed up starting over without having to install with disks again) but then it had an error saying "abnormal program termination"

Fist off, NEVER install POTC into program files. Windows security blocks the mods from running. You even noticed how the files are locked.

Next, you did not install the mod correctly. There is no need to unpack anything. The installer method used is very common and many other mods use it.

1. Create a folder somewhere safe.

Oh! One other thing. What about your hardware? POTC does not like Intel graphics and if you are using Intel graphics, then you will need the Intel fix that is in Step 5.

In the POTC main screen is "options". Most things can be set there and Steps 8 & 9 are optional.

Yeah, my PoTC isn't in program files. I installed it in My Documents/ My Games. The Mods I had installed on my Desktop in a folder called PoTC Mods.
Neither the game nor mods were in Program Files.
When I run the installer, the Engine.ini in the game folder was blank when I checked it.....no text at all, that is why it wouldn't launch the game.
I unpacked the Beta 3 just to check the Engine.ini in it, and it was blank, so I copied the original Engine.ini from the stock game install and applied it and then it had an abnormal program termination.
I'm thinking the problem is a massively corrupted download file.
I have an ATi video card, a Radeon 5770 HD.

I will check your link after I try again, because my engine.ini was blank so I couldn't enable an error log, but am now 10 minutes away from another Beta 3 full download finishing.

If installed correctly, the Beta 3 engine.ini is most definitely not blank. Check the size of the 7-Zip archive.
Perhaps it has become corrupted.

Well, I tried every game type once it started loading, and on the default first person to select, I picked him, hit start game, I heard a bell, logbook update, but screen was black around me, though I saw my profile picture and logbook update on the top left.....so the whole game wasn't black, just the world and everything in it. (not menus)
I then tried Assassin and Jack Sparrow, and the game CTD as soon as it loaded to start playing.

Check again the size of your 7-Zip archive. Ensure it is 2,504,265,443 bytes (2,388.25 MB).
Looks like a definite botched install as even stock game files give error messages:

As far as the Beta 3 full goes, it's size is 2.33 GB (2,504,265,443 bytes) and the installer is 112 MB (118,227,365 bytes)

On a side note, in the game menu, I didn't have an arrow cursor or anything, it was just a white square.
 
Update:

I reinstalled PoTC in My Documents, and tried to apply the mods again from a desktop folder, and the result was exactly the same as before. White block for cursor, CTD's on Assassin, etc.
If this helps, when I select the default character and just click start game, the game starts to load, then clicks over to menu where you see New Game, Load Game, Save Game, etc on it's own.
Then when I click resume game, everything is black except the top left of the screen with my picture and log updated. The game menus show up fine with F2.

Yeah, that is strange. Mine show the same size as yours in the folder, but show a different size when I right click the file and click properties.

I downloaded two different installers and about 5 different fulls from MD and one from Game Front.

Ok here is a comparison of my old installer and one I just DLed. They are the same size.

The Full has not finished DLing yet, and is acting suspicious as it has been stuck at 9 seconds for at least 10 minutes now.
 
It has to be the same down to the last byte.

So, you say stock POTC plays ok? It looks like corrupted stock files too. It will be 1-2 hours before I can help you any more.
