Ged's Icons Lair

The icon was in this thread, a couple of pages back. See <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=8950&view=findpost&p=171227" target="_blank">here</a>. I enabled it as item in the game now. It'll be a part of Alpha 6.

well then, anything else?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
More books would be nice. I have three different icons for books, but we'll have a whole bunch of books, thanks to Short Jack Gold. This means I'll be forced to reuse the same icons for different items, which I don't really like. So any book icons would be welcome.

well, there are plenty of books here! shouldn;t that hard to find them. however, finding one that would fit the game properly could be a problem.

I am a bit worried that we'll add too many skill-enhancing items. If we add too many, increasing your skills will be mostly based on collecting items and not on gaining experience. But perhaps many skill-enhancing items could be balanced with many skill decreasing items. Especially if the skill bonus/decrease isn't visible to the player.

How about a max skill increase of 4 points per skill? So if you have so many items that you skill would be increased, say, 8 points, your skill will still only increase 4 points. Thought there would, of course, be no limit on the skill DECREASES! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I totally agree that bonus/decrease should be hidden, and I like the max min idea (sneaky!) - what I have done (or tried to do) which can be worked out by the astute player is to use active poster's/modders names for the "good stuff" and fictitious or no names for the "duff stuff", the actual description shouldn't help at all.
I assume that the player could sell off the duff stuff once he/she realises their error ?
I haven't posted too many negative one's as I don't wish to overload you - if you want more - no problem - just tell me when to stop.
Here is another negative suggestion:

FIGHTING FORTS

Fast fun filled fact files for fierce Fort Fighting for fortune and fame - fearful fortress fronts - fictitious forts and famous feints and forts I've fought by Fighting Francesco

(-1 Accuracy)

fhat foesn't feally fake flear fat ft fives f fenalty.

(that doesn't really make clear that it gives a penalty)

That's the idea (he he!) - However, it does if you know that there is no "Fighting Francesco" character

I am a bit worry about your inventory being crowded by all those items. I'd like the effect of those items to be added to your skill if you're carring the item with you of course, but as well if it's in your personal chest.

That is indeed a risk with this. Luckily we now have a categorized inventory, so that should at least make it a bit less full, but I'll still be pretty crowded. Also the max skill increase would make it so that there's no use for too many items, because at one point they just stop having effect. But it would indeed be great to have the items take effect when in the weapon's locker as well. I'll code it in as soon as I figure out how to.

To Short Jack Gold: That's yet another nice one! I'll add all your suggestions in. But I think we have just about enough by now. I'd like to add infinitely more, of course, but there is a point where more just doesn't add much anymore. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Part 3 of the Morgan book series would still be welcome. I won't add my suggested Morgan's Many Messages book, of course. That was just a joke. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

um yeah, sure. anyway, do you have any ideas for it yet? i had suggested one, but be free to come up with something yourself.

The last one per Pieters request to stop.
To Morgan - no offense intended so feel free to change - delete - or write a new one as you see fit.

I loved the Hook's Handy Book... but have a suggestion.

Call it Hook's Book, originally titled Hook's HandBook. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Many useful tips on navigation - including the position of the sun

Already done in my Alpha WIP. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

it would be VERY usefull if the real in-game position of the sun would be in it, as you would be needing it when you don't have a compass yet. things i already know about this:

the moon is ALWAYS in the west.
the sun is also in the west, but only at mid-day.
the sun is in the east in the evening.
i don't know where it is in the morning yet, but i'll tell you when i find out. i think that it's in the west as well, as the sky is the same as that during mid-day.
