LOL! Good ones. I'll add them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

i finally remembered the name of the insturment that i had forgotten! it's a chronometer. in fact, it's a sort of clock used at sea for the navigation. you could call the watch/clock a chronometer instead. jusr sounds better for some reason.

Sounds good. Now if only we had the required icon, I could put it ingame... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

i'll look one up for you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

it's in the attachement. very nice indeed!
i found another one which might be better. it's the other attachement.

*pics removed to save space, they are now both in the pic that pieter posted and are used as icons in the game*

Nice! I'll see if I can turn those into icons. Thanks. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

some extra info about them:

the left one is actually bigger than it might seem. it's about ten cm in diameter or more and hangs from the cealing of the captians cabin.

the right one is likely used on deck, and the clock (you might notice that you can read the day and month on it as well) pivots on two points, letting it always hang even in rough seas.

both of them need to be wound up once in a while to remain accurate. it was a very important instrument in navigation as you could calculate your position with it in combination with the sextant. i don't know how exactly, but i did read it somewhere once. it had something to do with keeping track of the ships speed, using it with the time you had travelled (which you could see on the chronometer) and the sextant to see if you had drifted off course to determine your postion on the map.

this info could be usefull for the discriptions in some way.

Nice! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

i added some more info to my previous post which would be VERY usefull for the discription. i think that the right chronometer would be the best choice.

oh: do you need a picture of an 18th century doctor's kit as well? i would try and find one, if you want.

Please see attached for the new icons I've made, based on a simple virtual sailor's files and the clocks Morgan Terror found. I think it turned out pretty good. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro-->Edit:<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> It helps if I actually ADD the picture, doesn't it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

I added the clocks and books into the game. I wrote up the following item descriptions on the clocks. I'm going to test them now and I'll try to give them the use they should have.

<b>Simple clock:</b>
Knowing the time aboard a ship has always been very important in navigation. This simple clock, measuring 10 cm in diameter, can be hung from the ceiling of your captain's cabin and it will tell you the time while sailing at sea. However, this clock is not very accurate and can't be used for determining your position using the stars.

<b>Chronometer:</b>
To be able to determine your position at sea, it is required to know the time very accurately. This precision instrument pivots on two points, letting it always hang evenly, even in rough seas. By using this chronometer in combination with a sextant, it is possible to determine your position at mid sea through a series of complicated calculations.

Pieter, both of these are chronometers.

indeed. the only difference is that one of them hangs in your cabin and the other doesn't. they where both pics of chronometers. but, as players don't know this, they could function as two seperate items, possibly having the chronometer function as an improved version of the simple clock. you would only be able to equip one of the two, like a spyglass. the chronometer being the better of the two. let's say, the simple clock giving +1 sailing and the chronometer +2.

Clocks with pendulums don't work on ships.

The chronometers do. One would be sufficient.

well, they did have pocket watches, which don't have pendulums, so it would be possible. but removing the 'simple clock' would work as well. would save a lot of time (no pun) as well.

My idea is that the Simple Clock simply enables the clock display in 3D sailing mode. The Chronometer does the same but also gives a +1 Sailing bonus. And in combination with a sextant, it will show you the position of your ship on the Map interface. Of course the Simple Clock will be relatively easy to get and pretty cheap, while the Chronometer is much more expensive and rare. I already coded this in and it works.

The Simple Clock is the one that looks like a regular clock, the Chronometer is the one in the box. The reason is that the simple clock looks just like a normal clock would, while the Chronometer looks more advanced. I know that any clock that can show the time will enable you to calculate your position, but I wanted to use both clocks in the game and having two items that do the exact same thing seems pretty useless.

To Short Jack Gold: Nice job! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
