Mod Release Gentelmen of Fortune! v1.2 Full Release Patch 1.0 FAQ/Bugs/Installing

I'd like to ask again - how do I raise my leadership? What do I have to do? It has a % progress so I'm sure it can go higher. I'm not asking about Authority but about LEADERSHIP. Just to be clear :)

Making quests, boarding, drowning ships and winning land fights.

Cheers.

I like to play it solo. I don't plan making a fleet at all :) I'll make a big ass class 1 destroyer and have fun with it :)

If it is your way of having fun, go for it.

But you are lossing a good part of the game: while sailing a fulll fleet is cumbersome and will turn boring after some time, a well balanced three ships fleet can give you a lot of fun in the early and middle game.

IMO the real fun is when you have different fleets at your dispossal, so you can switch between solo hunting, raid fleets, merchant fleets and big sheeps fleets as you need/want.

Keeps your options open, the game can turns boring if you stick to only one style of play.

Cheers.

I agree with Buho, i will often start off by doing trade missions but i will also engage in battles if i see any and if i see a ship i like i will go for it if i think i can take it. The good thing about the start (although doesn't feel to good at the time) is when you see a ship you really want but know you will never be able to take it or a ship i the harbour that never leaves, that can be very frustrating but it makes you dream of bigger better things.

I will stick to solo fighting for some time, until I get bored. The reason I'm not aiming for bigger fleets is my laptop can't handle too many ships at a time. 4 ships would probably be too much :( As for now I'm trying to find a nice class 4 ship and after taking it, upgrading it :D

Look for the Complete sailors guide to privateering thread in this forum. The book fix is there. Currently all it does is add books to the stores, which makes them a bit more available than they are currently.

Personally, I rarely use fleets. I will occasionally capture whole merchant fleets, or have a large loot ship follow me around, but frankly companion ships aren't very useful in combat. The exception being forts. You'll want a couple of companions with thick hulls to absorb some damage for you when attacking those.

I've been fighting a pirate ship and a strange thing happened: my cannons started to "fall out" one after another! I kept shooting at the pirate ship to teach my dude some cannon skills :/ I was using bombs. After guns started falling out I used buckshots and knipples but the effect was the same. I finished the battle with 10 disabled 24lb culverins :/ Cost ain't big but it's still annoying during a battle. The enemy didn't react and only took the shots in "peace" :)

Another thing: my doctor/ bosun leveled up his ship ability. He already has all doctor skills and 2 bosun skills. I wanted to pick musket volley but he can't because he's not a gunner specialist. It requires God of Death which is also from the gunner skill set :/ What should I choose? Does the game pick a ship skill from an officer even if he's not in the required position f.e. my officer has God of Death and he's not assigned as the chief gunner? If it doesn't that I have an officer with a useless skill point :/

Cannons will fall out over time, the thing to do is after a battle unmount all guns and then remount them. This in effect fixes them or carry some spare cannons/culerines onboard so you can replace guns that have fallen out (bad thing is you can only replace them after the battle has finished).

As for skills, yes the officer is required to be in the role of gunner for the perk to take effect. So picking your perks for the officers is very important, i don't really care to much at the start because the chances are i will replace them in less i want to build a poticular officer up like a main character (the ones who approach you offering quests in the tavern) then i will make exceptions and build them up but again its rare that i try to hire them.

What do I have to do to be able to recruit other captains? At the beginning of the game they agreed easily. Now they are not interested. Also everytime I enter the tavern I get molested by one of those captains with an offer of attacking a convoy or such :/ I always say "no" because I'm not that kind of guy :p

The God of Death skill of your bosun will never be used if he don't act as a gunner, but is a reasonable price to pay for Musket Volley, a very powerful skill.

[...] frankly companion ships aren't very useful in combat.

With CBS they are. :piratesahoy!

Cheers.

NOTE: Anyway, you need at least a couple ships for a good trade run, and trade convoys now and then are very fun for me.

What's CBS?

Btw, i find companions quite useful!
One of mine even captured himself a better ship...
And they make sure, that nobody gets away by demasting each and everyone (including me, but that's besinde the point)

I think it's related to your reputation, title, level or ship rank. As game time passes, these captains gain levels and get better ships. If you have a superior ship or fleet, or higher level than them the chances are higher. Let them gain levels and when you want one of them to join you, save before entering tavern.
Don't bother with convoy attacks, I did it once and i found it too time consuming and hard to make it in time, for a normal money reward.

Thank you, buho.
I'm looking very much forward to 1.1.2

Can you give a sneak peek at what this CBS actually does?
Can't search for only 3 letters...

Can you give a sneak peek at what this CBS actually does?

It opens the boarding screen when your companions board a ship, so you can take it as a prize or loot it like when your own ship boards it.

Cheers.

Actually, having a bigger flagship than their own ship make them to refuse to join you.

May be we need to tweak that lines a little.

Cheers.
