Gentlemen of luck?

gentelman of luck is some fellow that has smth to do with you, wants your head, kind of bounty hunter. It's not a simple pirate.
Not always a single ship - attacked me with 3 , level dependent.
As you upset people there will always be some luck searching fellow (under a pirate flag) after you. That's their generic name in the game : gentelmen of luck.

Soldiers of Fortune is what it should have been from that description for sure then. Those are paid mercenaries.

Cap'n Drow

i usually encounter this when I'm doing some merchant transport ex cargo or people

they have nice ship so i usually make a lot of gold thanks to them minus the expenses they love to destroy my Sails -.-

HA! I was RIGHT! Gentleman of Luck IS one of the generic pirate ship names as well, I just encountered one! (didn't take a screenshot, though... but you guys believe me, right?)

I am not russian but I do know russian language very well;
So this is just another bad translation from russian. It is 1:1 translation of the russian words without caring about the sense. The same is with the game of "bones" in the tavern (on russian the dices are called "bones" because once they were made from animal bones).
"Gentlemen of luck" is 1:1 translation from the russian words. In russian pirates often are called "gentlemen of luck" in a poetry and lycrics or in a ironic manner.
So there is absolutely noting hidden there.

Edit: I guess the russians added this "gentlemen of luck" instead or simple "pirate" just for a flavor; and then the translators put it there sheepeshly. I am absolutely sure it is random if it says "pirate" or "gentlemen of luck". There is absolutely no difference between them in russian.

Mmm. Im disagree with this. And im Russian <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
There is some difference between pirate and "Gentlemen of <b><i>Fortune</i></b>" for example not all of who called "джентельмены удачи" in Russia are really pirates, in general we have no really pirates there now <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
As mentioned above in the thread, "Gentlemen of Fortune" is a romantic and ironic name of adventurers and swindlers who hope for a quick and easy jackpot.

See this: <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068519/" target="_blank">http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068519/</a>
That's a good choice to check this misunderstanding; and also this is the greatest Russian comedy about swindlers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Some tedium:
the concept of "Gentlemens of Fortune" becomes from the medieval tradition to choose a lady of hearts and serve her, protecting her. Perhaps here as the lady favored goddess Fortuna (in Russian fortune - "фортуна" and luck - "удача" are very close synonyms which may be used one instead another) because it does not actually have to protect her, but to show respect and to bring some gifts, and its very name can bring good luck.

Let's get this over with! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p2" border="0" alt="pirate3.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

It's (several ships) in game name too.But when , on the big map , you receive "it's a gentelman of luck" - I do think they are mercs( they did increase as number of appearances as the bounty on my head increased)

They appear in the very beginning of the game too when all the nations are neutral to me so there is still no bounty hunters.

just-a-guy: my mistake; I wanted to write there is no difference between both in the game, not "in russian".

Quick question. How do I talk to the green sail guys? I've pulled up next to them, expecting to see an option to talk or board come up with no luck. Don't want to attack them because they are the nationality I'm working for. What's a cap'n to do?

Brevity is the soul of whit!

Thank you sir, I'll try that next time <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

More, more soul in the thread! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Not brevity but emotional and sad a little; maybe this is of interest to you: whell-known Russian song about lady Luck (or Fortuna)...

My attempt to translation:
title: <b><div align='center'><!--sizeo:15--><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->Your nobility<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec--></div></b>
<div align='center'>Your nobility, lady Separation,
We have been friends for a long time,
That is the mention.
A letter in the envelope,
Wait a bit, do not tear it...
I wasn't lucky with the passing of
I'll be lucky in love.

Your nobility, lady Foreign Land
Your embrace was hot,
But you never loved.
In your tender webs,
Wait a bit, don't catch me,
I wasn't lucky with the passing of
I'll be lucky in love.

Your nobility, lady Luck
For someone you are kind,
For someone otherwise,
9 grams within the heart*
Wait a bit, don't call me,
I wasn't lucky with the passing of
I'll be lucky in love.

Your nobility, lady Victory,
It means that my song
has not been sung to the end yet,
Stop, devils, betting of my fate!
I wasn't lucky with the passing of
I'll be lucky in love.</div>
