Hi.

Possibly... xD

Ok, now I know I've hit a new low. I present to you the stupidest question in history:

How in the heck do you become a Pirate!?!?!?

I would just like to point out the actual reason I'm asking this (in order to preserve what little remains of my self respect) I just managed to lose about 400 rep with Englands because of the story line >.< , so I decided to become Pirate King of the Caribbean for a change. But nothing I do seems to really affect my standing with anyone, and nothing is really seeming to affect my rank... And yes I am flying the Pirate flag... xD

On another note: I've managed to get the population of every town down to 4. Anyone care to try and beat me? (Not an actual challenege but just elaborating on my earlier fort problem)

If you are hated by everyone, then you are a pirate. There's not much point in joining the pirates, but you can talk to the QC pirate leader for this if your fame is high enough. I don't think there is any way of improving your reputation with the pirates. Pirates as a nation are pretty underdeveloped. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

oh, i've got two challenges for YOU!

1: get a manowar in under 38 days.
2: beat my speed record in arcade sailing mode of 45.2 knots.

those are my two records. as for your question, you need to achieve a certain notiority (which is partially determined by your personal wealth, of which you should have quite a lot seeing your previous standing with england) and then talk to the pirate leader at quebradas costillas. it doesn't really give you any benefits though (yet). it just makes everyone but the pirates hostile to you, for a new challenge. but by the looks of it, you already are. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> try selecting 'hoist flag' when near pirates in the commands menu at sea. it will make them neutral to you.

Shame, I think the Pirates could really go somewhere if someone would take a liking to them, I would do it myself but I wouldn't even know where to begin.... xD

Edit: Does 7 days count? And do you mean game days?

And does 42 million count as "a lot"?

well, i guess it does, yes. i mean game days and not real ones. but i used the worldmap all the time. if you would use directsail, it could indeed be quite managable to do that. for instance, just keep sailing around in a bermuda sloop (preferably starting at FDF so you can immediately snatch that pirate corvette, making it a whole lot easier) and wait until you encounter a manowar. it's pretty easy to board it with a pirate corvette. in the most ideal conditions, you could get one in three days. maybe even two.

to me, yes. but i've never played with one character for very long, and haven't looted forts that much. i've seen players with a few hundred million. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> then again, that particular character was past level 300. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Thats a lotta cash... I recon I could beat it though if I could just get the town populations (and I use the "s" lightly on that one) to go up xD

it IS beatable. i didn't set it in the fastest ship i ever had, and i didn't empty the cargo hold beforehand. here's a shopping list for breaking the speed record:

arcade sailing
the very rare 40 knot wind
a pirate designed fast schooner
empty cargo hold
no big rock in front of your nose (cos it HURTS when you hit it at 95 km/h. in fact, i think you'd be flying straight over it in reality. hmm.....now where did the hull go?)

i only had the (movie version) pearl once or twice. i'm going for it a third time now.

Good luck with that. I doubt you'll need it but good luck all the same. xD

I've been wondering, what qualifys as skill in this game? I don't mean like getting all your skills up to level 10 and having all the abilities, even though that is an achievement in it's own rights, but anyone can do it if they have enough time. But what makes a good player in this game? Is it being able to take a fort single handed? Sinking class one war ships with Sloops? Or is it something else?

Doing fun things with a Gunboat? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
Personally I think the main "skill" would be to simply have fun with the game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

well, there IS someone who finished the game in a tartane. he had a manowar to accompany him in the hard bits, but he completed it in a tartane. personally, i'm really good at boarding with no boarding skills trained at all. so that's 1 grappling skill and no boarding abilities whatsoever. in my opinion, my greatest achievement was boarding a war galleon with a schooner from the FRONT sailing in the SAME direction as he was. think of it: too far left, you get shot. too far right, you get shot. too fast, it's no good. too slow, you get squashed! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> too far left or right AND too slow and you're definately screwed. a.k.a. no masts. although boarding and taking a pinnace in a gunboat was pretty neat too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Dude, you must be like, the Yoda of boarding.. =P

Kinda reminds me of my friend, when it comes to taking down masts he is more or less unbeatable, you give him chainshot, any ship with any cannons and a target and he will take down all of it's masts in a single volley.

I've yet to figure out how he does that... because even I can't do it with max abilities, skills and a frickin' manowar. xD

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> and quests, mind you. well, maybe. anyway, i know quite a lot about the quests in the game.

i can do that too. you need to practice aiming your cannons manually. aim in the yellow above the red if you can, with bombs, and you'll blow them down like it's nothing. chainshot works better against sails than masts. bombs work best.

Jasc Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop, for example. Lots of programs available, possibly also some free ones. Search on the internet for TGA or TARGA or something like that.

i've got a good TGA converter for you, if you like. TGA is a really big format. you could have problems uploading it, partially because most sites don't accept that format. here you go:

be sure to read the readme file! it converts pictures to JPG format, however, there's one drawback: it flips the pictures over. flip them back with paint or some other drawing program and just save it.
